How stupid do they think we are
Laura Snapes gets it about right on the 'Fork.
I can't be arsed hating them based on background/image etc. thought they were crap when they were peddling third eye blind lite before but from the single it sounds like they're doing something a bit different. Cant see James fucking Bay shoe-horning a Daft Punk guitar solo into his new tune.
Idk I won't buy it but there seems to be a bit of a creative spark there.
just a list of songs and what they sound like, and a couple of awkwardly attached bits of 'context'.
it's like the reviews I used to write for DiS, however I had the excuse of still being in my teens when writing them.
Amidst the ramble she does highlight most of what's good and bad about them.
Tbf my enjoyment of this is probably a good indicator as to why I don't write music reviews ",
^^ a fuckwit speaks
I doubt it's a pretty sight

he also gets points for bringing the fact that his mum's denise welch into it
didn't think it was very remarkable
his mam's denise welch and his dad's tim healy
(potato potahto, I know)
and love how angry they make everyone.
the ultimate ear worm
but for some reason theyve got this status as being, in sean's words 'sensational'.
And they're far more enjoyable than their contemporaries (though what their contemporaries are isn't exactly clear at this point - I'd probably say anyone from Foals to Bastille to Panic at the Disco to One Direction).
Interesting to see the quite positive response this is getting from more 'reputable' sites (DiS, AV Club, Pitchfork etc). I'll probably check it out when I can be arsed.
have they suddenly gone all arty or is sean just continuing to like awful music?
But, they make entertaining pop singles, with enough eccentricity to make them stand out a bit from the rest.
I think the peak of it is when they use "for" instead of "because", presumably because it looks superficially more intelligent and poetic
Not mocking their music though, which I haven't heard. Just the shit awful title of their album
listened to the first 4 or 5 songs. pretty enjoyable actually. I didn't like that Chocolate song so much, but this, nah, not so bad. In fact, they seem to be good at doing what they want to be doing, which is good.
In all seriousness I'll wait until I've given it some more and full listens before i comment more. dreadful title aside, I liked what i heard and think i will enjoy listening to it some more.
loving their new record, "when i look at you i am confident that i'd rather look at you than any portrait in existence in the world"
girl you don't need to wear make up, you are perfectly attractive enough for me with just your regular face
or maybe what a band like Wham! would sound like if they were around now rather than in the 80s, not really my cup of tea but inoffensive enough. I'm curious as to why it seems to be being marketed at indie folks though.
on one listen, this albums sounds a lot more like an 80s dream pop album than anything the Kooks did.
I dont like it still, but its nothing like the landfill boyband indie everyone seems to be labelling them as
