Delorean (seriously what happened to these guys?)
Monomania really wasn't that bad and was released in 2013. They have have hardly gone to shit.
Halcyon Digest was extremely well received.
Are you sure this isn't another 'bands I don't really like' thread?
Was as enjoyable as the previous albums imo. They're a great band.
but no i was a really big fan of what they were doing a few years back (particularly the more ambient/shoegazy stuff on Weird Era Cont etc).
Halcyon Digest was ok but a good 5 years old now. Monomania, dreadful
but I still wouldn't call it a bad album despite having no inclination to relisten to them.
I can see Deerhunter really falling off, though they haven't gotten to that stage yet.
probably best to get ones hopes up for any future releases.
which I think was pretty m'eh
I think the title suggests bands that are now irrelevant and off the radar, which Deerhunter certainly are not. You may find Monomania dreadful and im not its biggest fan, but it remains well received by critics. They certainly have not 'gone to shit'. Even if you think that they now make shit music.
almost 6 years since WAP came out
might be a bit extreme.
What on earth happened to the killers? After three good albums they released battle born that sounded like a really bad or cheesy 80s album! The production was terrible, plus itwas 4 years in the making
Monomania is my favourite Deerhunter album by miles. I actually remember the songs and sing along to them n shit. Halcyon was patchy and Microcastle was great but a bit forgettable at times.
but they could be onto a winner with the new one.
mid tier 'indie' bands don't sell out Wemblye
in a very long time. horrible production.
Neither were great though. The Killers peaked with the first five songs on the first album. Even if Mr Brightside is overplayed to the point where its now painful to hear, what a run that was.
Holy Fire was inconsistent as hell but Inhaler is a top drawer banger.
weren't they selling out Alexandra Palace two nights in a row not too long ago?
Rather than quality. Example: Los Campesinos are probably my favourite band of all time, but they've never been more than a lower-mid tier indie band really. I'd say TVotR are pretty much the definition of this.
they are massive, one if the biggest rock bands in Britain probably
5 great albums. I would even argue Valhalla is better then Decline.
After a string of incredible ones. I hardly think they've gone to shit
but had a number of ace tunes on it - in fact, I wasn't really into Foals til Holy Fire - which was a mistake
Mosquito wasn't very good.
Got a feeling they're not going to get back to being a good band again. Hope I'm wrong of course.
Better than people think. All their album are decent but perhaps not essential. At least they have a bit of character and make good use of the guitar.
Since the first one
although their third/fourth albums aren't as strong as the first two, but whatever happened to The Bees?
They were never good but they had some early commercial success after NME hype. Though still active they have now disappeared into complete obscurity.
I think 2 top 15 albums on the Billboard 200 is pretty successful for an indie band. Its not sell out but there are few indie bands that get to that level.
I also think that people criticizes there later and more successful work on these boards because it doesn't have the energy and experimentation of there early stuff. But there song writing and soulful melodies are still good. For my money Dear Science is their best work. Nine Types of Light is not at all bad either. Seeds was pretty drab affair though. There tailing off but they have hardly 'gone to shit'.
Really big fan of the first three
Nostalgically speaking at least (it came out when I was 16). Doubt and Counterpoint in particular I have fond memories of.
Nah right words is their second best album
Their UK shows ths month don't seem to have garnered any attention on the boards that I can see?
The Brixton gigs in 2010 seemed to send the boards mad with talk, rightly so as they were excellent.
AC have always been utter shit.
They're presented as religious experiences, as the best things that have ever happened ever, by the best band that ever was, or ever will be.
Didnt see any threads on the Roundhouse gigs.
kudos for trying something new, but their last album was really bad.
their second best after It's Blitz
Bloc Party would've been the most ^thissed answer.
The fact they haven't even been mentioned here might be because lots of people feel (as I do) that Four was really good, but I suspect it's probably because most people have completely forgotten about them.
There 2nd album 'Collections' peaked at 77 on the UK chart and had a 59 metacritic rating. Now that is going to shit.
Alot of the mid to late noughties bands who I guess might not tour and release as much nowadays and let's not forget other bands and musical trends have come along since.
Dont hear much about Friendly Fires now either
Kaiser chiefs still pretty big though unsurprisingly...
I liked Narrow Stairs a lot, but I only listened to Codes & Keys like three times. It did absolutely nothing for me. But "Black Sun", that new single, sounds pretty damn good. I'm excited to see what they bring.
I personally thought Friendly Fires really upped the game with Pala. It's a shame to have not heard from them for quite a while.
still listen to it just as much as any of their others
and have gone on buying their albums even after they dropped off massively... but yeah, the last one was pretty bad
I'd love another transatlantisism but id take a narrow stairs.
and Infact the one prior to that 'The National Health' was excellent and was rightly lauded by the press & fans alike. I think they've matured very nicely.
