What's the best setlist ever performed?
Now obviously some people are going to say this is 'subjective' or depends on 'taste', but they're wrong. So what is it?
Rules:
Setlist.fm or it didn't happen
No more than 3 covers. NO TRIBUTE ACTS
we're interested purely in quality of material here, forget how good a performer they are.
I'll get things started with a classic: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/bob-dylan/1966/free-trade-hall-manchester-england-13d6bd6d.html Now you.

setlist.fm?
you nerds have gone too far
Are you just now learning about Setlist.fm?
woah, i'm listening to that gig right now
Ok, so not quite Dylan '66
But you won't get a better Brand New setlist than their first night at The Roundhouse last year.
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/brand-new/2012/roundhouse-london-england-3de9ddb.html
Yep that is pretty ridiculous
Forgot how much I like Brand New
Bristol last year was better.
Play Crack The Sky >>> Limousine
Errrrrrrr
They are my two favourite Brand New tracks
I couldn't choose. Their Wembley show had both, but was at Wembley...
The Cure do love releasing a live album...
...but their Bestival 2011 for once certainly justified it:
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-cure/2011/robin-hill-country-park-isle-of-wight-england-73d03ee1.html
Was a truly special night, where they pulled a number of tracks out that they hadn't performed live for decades.
I knew you all wouldn't let me down!
Ignore cat_race up there - he wouldn't know a good thread if it slapped him in the face with a user-edited online setlist database
I still haven't listened to that
I just can't get myself excited over yet another live album, but would you say that maybe I should?
It probably is their best one
There's a live DVD too which might be a more interesting option...
I still haven't watched the Bloodflowers set from the Trilogy DVD...
That is also good actually
That said, if I have a live DVD on it tends to be in the background so everything comes out relatively pleasant.
The Bestival set is better though...
SFA at Royal Festival Hall, October 2004
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/super-furry-animals/2004/royal-festival-hall-london-england-6bd7de12.html
i saw that SFA gig
was amazing
Likewise
It was the first time I'd seen them, and despite having seen them numerous times since, they've never bettered it.
Never seen Mr Methane again though.
Wait...
Did they really play a 16 song encore?
Looks like they had a 20-minute interval in the middle
so yes and no, I guess.
The Bongaleeros, Crater Lake festival, Leeds 9 mar 2013
https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/582413_10151540375988659_1379433635_n.jpg
This was in Leeds as well and I missed it
gutted.
Were you there btw?
What's wharf chambers like? I think my friend is playing there next week.
Its the best, lovely place
Yep I was there, sorry you missed it :(
It's a superb venue, great + loud sound, good cheap drinks, nice peoples.
...
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/radiohead/1997/leisure-centre-gloucester-england-4bd6ef86.html
(Not really the best, but I looked it up recently to see what they played the first time I saw them, and that is a pretty pretty pretty good setlist for people who prefer their Radiohead with guitars.)
For Radiohead for a later setlist
saw this on youtube
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/radiohead/2006/great-stage-park-manchester-tn-5bdfd7d4.html
Pretty absurd how much crammed in
They were supposed to release that show on DVD
but it's never happened. :(
My favourite Radiohead set
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/radiohead/1995/brixton-academy-london-england-1bd2054c.html
That Carly Simon cover was a belter!
This has more than 3 covers BUT I DON'T CARE
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/prince/2007/o2-arena-london-england-63d71aa7.html
You could pick any of the Prince setlists from the 21 Nights shows, to be honest.

Bowie at Glastonbury, 2000
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/david-bowie/2000/worthy-farm-pilton-england-1bd40158.html
Four covers, but he wrote 2 of them and one is Under Pressure.
o gosh
now there's a greatest hits set if ever i saw one!
I'll see your Glasto setlist
and raise you with Hammersmith 2002.
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/david-bowie/2002/carling-apollo-hammersmith-london-england-63d726e7.html
wow...
Surely this one is the best
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/david-bowie/1972/santa-monica-civic-auditorium-santa-monica-ca-33d09c69.html
This is better ^...
OK, that is a decent setlist
As a festival setlist, I think mine is great; as a live gig, yours is clearly better (though tbh any Bowie setlist I've seen looks good - the mix of hit singles, classic album tracks, obscure ones, old, new, covers is just genius).
I was there, it was amazing.
sure, not the best ever,
but this would have been fab http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-flaming-lips/2006/nokia-theatre-at-grand-prairie-grand-prairie-tx-7bd40a9c.html

Springsteen, Hyde Park, 2009.
I would sell a kidney to go back in time and go to that gig.
For the moment I've just got to make do with YouTube clips of Clarence Clemons blasting out the sax solo to Jungleland over a beautiful summer sunset... *weeps*
We had to endure Dave Matthews covering "All Along The Watchtower" to get there, though
It wasn't all milk and honey.
Surely the Dave Matthews + Gaslight Anthem double header
made it all the sweeter when The Boss eventually turned up. Deferred gratification and all that.
WHY OH FUCKING WHY DID I NOT GO TO THIS GIG :(
came in here to post this
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/bruce-springsteen/2009/hyde-park-london-england-53d31fcd.html
London Calling > Badlands > Night > She's The One?
Bobby Jean and No Surrender basically next to each other?
Jungleland as the sun was going down?
Dancing in the Dark, seemingly (to me) out of nowhere as a closer?
I honestly don't imagine I'll enjoy live music more than this show.
(sorry GOML)

Incredible set list
He didn't like doing Closer on that final tour tho'. I saw them in Manchester and London. Jane's Addiction were superb at the London show especially. They opened with Three Days
I also saw them in Manc on that tour
Brilliant gig, right? Would've nice to have seen Closer, but I can see why Reznor got tired of it.
Jane's were fantastic too. There was a bit of speculation that they got a bit fed up with the Manchester crowd though, hence the omission of closer Jane Says, but rumours are rumours and all that.
Holy crap, that's basically a festival in one show

Of gigs I've been to, this REM one takes some beating
It breaks the covers rule, but my god, what covers they were. I can still remember the version of After Hours at the end of a long, long night
