Beyonce is back!
- being all sexist and that/in pog form.
https://soundcloud.com/beyoncemusic
What do we think? I mean she's clearly more entitled to go all 'H-Town' than most, but it seems a bit bandwagon-y really as it's clearly a massive trend at the moment, and the second half of this isn't particularly inspiring so just ends up sounding like some A$AP off cut.
Can't be bothered to have a little cry about all the sexism stuff, it's definitely a bit jarring hearing her being all aggressive though.
Also quite funny to hear her go on about not wanting to be known just as Jay Z's wife when she's gone to the producer of his biggest hit in years for her comeback single.

also she named the tour the Mrs Carter tour.
When it slows down it sounds like a screwed version of the IT Crowd theme
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH5DpBU5ohk
This is fucking horrendous
I'm sorry but in what world was Beyonce ever away?
Is there any point in the past 5 years where she's not had a single out?
first new track in two years apparently
so standard album release gap length then
hmm
between calling her comeback track Bow Down, the O2 ad for the Mrs Carter Tour and Jay's risible guest spot on Suit & Tie, I'm inclined to believe that household is beginning to believe its own hype far, far too much
Probably the worst Beyonce song.
what's H-Town?
Hypnagogic-Town?
Is that were all the chillwavers have gone to die?
Houston, Texas
Where the whole 'chopped and screwed' sound originated, and also where Beyonce was born.
I might have guessed that
if I'd listened to it. Can't get soundcloud at work anymore - which is disastrous.
Oh right. I thought it must be Harlem...
she sounds really stupid saying bitches
Her voice is irritating at that point.
Sounds like she needs to clear her throat. :-/
The is no other way to put it
this is shit
Really disappointing.
Particularly as she usually eschewed trends and does her own thing. Why start shamefully biting another style now?
Has she ever sworn in her music before?
Seems pretty desperate.
thought it could be a Housemartins cover for a sec
sadly not.
Team Solange
An eccentric former colleague of mine just posted this on Facebook:
For all of you who don't think Beyonce is involved in some illuminati/devil worshiping crap, would a Christian woman sing "Bow Down Bitches"?!
there are loads of good beyonce illuminati videos on youtub
Oh look..
it's this year's 'Stupid Ho'. Goody.
first, this isn't as good as stupid ho
second, the fuck you say about stupid ho
I think I'm probably alone in thinking this
But Beyonce isn't really that good as a solo artist.
Sure, Crazy in Love & Single Ladies rule, but much of the rest has been substandard ballads.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAyKJAtDNCw
Yeah...
Crazy in Love, Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), Video Phone. Are all you need from Solo Beyonce really. Baby Boy at a push maybe.
I refer you to:
Telephone
Deja Vu
Videophone
Countdown
Love on Top
Green Light
as a start
I know loads of people who love it
And whose taste I usually 100% agree with, but I hate Countdown
If you still hate it after seeing this then there's no hope for you:

holy shit, amazing
2nd best faggy kid on the internet
Best faggy kid on the internet: http://youtu.be/kO4hL8BBX44
we're still using that term are we?
cool.
i think some people are allowed to use it
We're reclaiming it as a term of affection babes
This^
Plus:
Upgrade U
Ring the Alarm
Get Me Bodied
Freakum Dress
Diva
Sweet Dreams
Beautiful Liar
Baby Boy
End of Time
And those are just the bangers, she has plenty of amazing mid-tempo tunes and ballads too.
Ctrl-F "halo"
WTF guys?! GUYS! Also, this version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81qR1mPvW8Q
Love On Top is diabolical
Couldn't believe it when I first heard that song, it's like aural torture.
Is that the one that has her straining through some horrific modulation?
Argh.
sweet dreams was pretty good
Having watched her Glasto set
and Rihanna's recent Hackney headline set I'd say Beyoncé's was infinitely more entertaining and had songs you'd actually recall after.
SO much this
I think my brain just switches off as soon as I hear her voice cos her songs are always boring
Enjoyed that.
This is genuinely one of the worst songs I've ever heard.
I highly doubt this will be a single or even be on the next album.
The beginning up through the opera bit is good but then it gets stagnant.
Listening again they're not as bad as I thought.
I like the beat for I Been On and I think it could work well as an album opener but i'll reserve judgement till i've heard the bits with her actually singing.
Late to the party...
...just sounds like something she was dicking around with, that someone suggested they just put out. Can't imagine it'll be a characteristic-marker for whatever comes next. Pretty terrible given the girl's pedigree.
yeah, it just sounds like she was messing about
in her bedroom/the studio and knocked this up in an afternoon. I like the Ennio Morricone type wailing bits, but the rest of it is a mess.
more artists should put stuff in that vein
up on Soundcloud. Demos, work-in-progress stuff, bits of ideas.
If Thom Yorke started doing that the internet would implode.
This is horrible
the Bow Down part is pretty great
but the second half is just so ... I read someone say sub-A$SAP Rocky, and it really is that poor. Really hope it's two different songs, like Pitchfork suggests
Let's be fair hear. At least this pisses all over If I Were a Boy.
It's a bit ropey.
And just to be a pissy middle-class liberal for a second - I've got a 6-year-old daughter who loves Single Ladies and Run The World, and I'm not ecstatic about the prospect of her going round singing 'Bow down bitches'. A mis-step in so many ways.
Shouldn't a pissy middle class liberal
be just as concerned about a six year old girl singing songs about being objectified and defined by marriage?
(That's meant to be more of a sly side swipe at Beyonce's muddled gender attitudes...
... but it's come out as a snarky attack on you. For that I apologise)
not only this
but it doesn't make much sense, Bey's whole thing is about resisting being objectified and defined by marriage, they're a line in this song where she says 'Calm down, I'm not just his little wife', so are you saying said 6-year old girl SHOULD be thinking about being objectified and defined by marriage?
I think they were referring to Single Ladies
and about how the song's most memorable hook basically promotes marriage.
Also as said above 'The Mrs. Carter Tour' isn't exactly resisting being defined by marriage is it?
Good point well made
But at least it's quite easy to divorce 'Single Ladies' from an actual message, and I'm not one to blame supposed 'role models' for imposing some sort of moral code on my daughter. At the moment she's too young to take any sort of message from a song on board, but if she was to grow up being objectified and identified by marriage then that would be our failing and not Beyonce's.
The prospect of her singing 'Bow down, bitches!' is a lot more immediate though! And don't worry I didn't really take it as a snarky attack. I'm also assuming that being a pissy middle-class liberal doesn't put me in a minority on this site?
Yeah, I meant 'Single Ladies'
And it goes beyond promoting marriage. It can only stem from the presumption that women passively await a proposal, completely absent from the decision of when or whether or not to get married, and that women are all yearning for the day that their relationships are made meaningful by a proposal.
"If you liked it then you should have put a ring on it" can essentially have been paraphrased as "you did not take the initiative as the man in the relationship, and had you bothered to propose, I would probably have stuck around, ignored the fact that an engagement ring makes no fundamental difference to our relationship, and we would both be happy".
I can see that "bow down bitches" is more likely to crop up at parents evening, however.
And for my second concession: I still think Single Ladies is a monster jam.
Agree with all that
But I do admit the parents' evening issue is weighing heavier on my mind. Her class was recently banned from singing the 'Hey sexy lady' bit of 'Gangnam Style' around the school!
Oh Single Ladies is a magnificent pop record, no doubt about it. She has a few in her armoury, both solo and with Destiny's Child. This new one is not to be added to that list, unfortunately.
*got
shouts out to Pimp C :D
lol
this was horrible by the way.

Link fails for Soundcloud, btw.
Ah well, worked at the time
No great loss.
you're all terrible people
Just heard Bow Down for the first time
Sounds like a shoddy Crystal Castles 8-bit remix of MIA with a bit of Salem. :-(
:')
it's not 8-bit at all, sean
also, i'm assuming you mean 'i been on'
oh i forgot about the intro
carry on
still: why are you all pretending to care about beyonce
...when all the lot of you ever do is either label her singles 'brilliant pop' or 'disappointing' in comparison with the 'brilliant pop' ones anyway
:'( for female solo artists
Come on gb, be fair
You can be needlessly condescending in either here or the Kanye thread - not both.
actually i think she can manage both
