1. Through The Trees (from Wind's Poem) is such a fantastic song. It's so inviting. Love this guy.
2. Pretty similar to Hella but a little less chaotic. Really fun anyway.
4b. Only just got round to properly listening to the new one. Unsurprisingly fantastic.
5d. Forgot how great Fang Island are - almost worth Daughters breaking up to listen to that guy's guitar in a less unpleasant context.

The Daughters guy isn't even in Fang Island anymore
but they are the best. Finally coming back to London next month!
Really?!
What a fickle man he is. I need to see if they're playing Brighton ASAP.
MOTHERFUCKER
they're on the same night I'm putting on Piotr Kurek. Not only can I not see them but those pricks are going to steal my crowd.
Bold new leap, I'm not gonna do numbers, just say what I've been listening to
Let's take this thread back to its roots. A weekly share of the good stuff you have been listening to/enjoying/underwhelmed by.
Been playing a lot of Pinch, revisiting Underwater Dancehall. Used to prefer the instrumental half but I think the vocal half is way stronger actually. But the whole thing makes me think if dubstep ever actually existed as a congealed entire uniform genre. What he was doing is quite a long way from DMZ, which in turn is a long way from Skream, who in turn is a long way from Burial etc.
Also been caning Sa-Ra's Nuclear Evolution. Basically if you like psychedelic 'neo-soul' you need this. They did tonnes of work on Badu's last two records if that sells it to you. Some deeply weird stuff and they passed on the baton to my favourite of the odd future crew, The Jet Age of Tomorrow. Love this kinda stuff, it's sexy and soulful but still mind expanding enough for me to get a kick from both sides.
Lots of Thee Oh Sees and The Men as well. I like the new The Men album better than their last one. It feels more solid and less genre touristy. Feels like they settled into their sound more, and you don't miss the rawness as much. It is still occasionally pretty heavy though.
WANDA GROUP continues to haunt my dreams and nightmares. Completely oddball plunderphonic electronica from Brighton. Sounds like Actress somewhat, but only if Actress had spent a lot of time with DJ Screw. And tbh, it's weirder even than that.
Other stuff - Fontanelle, that On The Corner revivalist group on Southern Lord composed of some of the horn section from Sunn O)))'s last record. Nice dark, moody and funky jazz stylings. And also Regis' archive material which he released last year. Just for the weekly dose of brit techno.
Hav Lyfe
You've gottta check it if you dig Wanda Group: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4419974 They may or may not be releated in some way *ahem*. Wanda Group did a track of how he imagains Hav Lyfe called 'MOON HAS GOT HER UMBRO ON (HOW WE VISUALISE HAV)'.

Dubstep was a mad one as a genre, it had a core at one point of being all out 140 and a load of bass but yeah everyone does somethign diffrent with it. Which is prob why so many diffrent scenes and artists have spread out far and wide from it nowadays. It was pretty much just an open kind of scene that liked exploring diffrent sounds and embraced them. I mean Digital Mysticks as a group sound nothing like one anoter really and they're pretty much the core of it. Loefah has the minimal spaced out sub thing going on, Coki has the aggressive high frequencies wobbles and energy, Mala has the meditative rolling percussive vibe. Then you have people like Peverelist and Shackleton who no one really sounds like even today but they fit in just fine. It just goes on like that.
i found the newest the men record really dull on first few listens, bit nice.
never really got the genre tourist criticism of them either, immaculada and leave home always have a through-line of ROCK and i find it disappointing how few non-metal bands take from as many bits of guitar music as possible.
Are you talking about New Moon or Open Your Heart?
Because it kinda sounds like you're talking about Open Your Heart....

4 The Rural Alberta Advantage 33
5 Beat Happening 31
6 Oneida 28
7 Hookworms 27
8 Stars 24
8 Woods 24
10 An Emergency 23
1 / dunno why I thought Gossamer wasn't as good as Manners, it clearly is. and Carried Away is the best thing ever.
2 / Johnny Foreigner vs Everything over and over and over and over and over
3 / Not sure what I think of New Moon so far, even for them it's all over the place and unfocussed. but that eight minute track at the end? BINGO
6 / been listening to Come On Everybody Let's Rock. great title. great record. i like them best when they're sarcastically fucking with rock music tropes rather than making abstract noise pieces.
7 / Pearl Mystic is exactly as good as I want it to be <3
10 / I miss this band
Disagree on New Moon
It's far more focussed than Open Your Heart. It's v Neil Young Crazy Horse style throughout, the quiet tracks feel at least related to the loud ones now. The last track is amazing though.
An Emergency!
The best Q And Not U tribute band ever.
need to hear that Hookworms record too. Is it on bandcamp/deezer/spotify? No way anyone over here is going to have physical copies.
It is on Spotify here, yessir
Dunno if this link'll work for you, but: http://open.spotify.com/album/7IUIMXnIgiZwlSX3VvzJUH
i played the last track from New Moon on my radio show last night. that, through big studio speakers? yeahhhhhhh boy.
Oh my god this first track
It's like Wooden Shjips, Comets in Fire and Oneida rolled into one. Literally crushing.
dunno if you saw this
but they sold out the first pressing of the LP *and* the CD before it had even been released. A thousand of each. Incredible scenes for a band doing what they're doing in this country.
Listening to this I can understand why
It's ridiculously good. Like a more propulsive and fiery Wooden Shjips. Exciting and hypnotic!
If we're hewing away from numbers and into stuff we've been liking territory
I've been listening to Jon Spencer Blues Explosion round at my friend's house and that shit is RAD. BELLBOTTOMS, BELLBOTTOOOOMS, BELLBOTTOMS etc.
Listening to a lot of gospel and traditional folk songs as well, in compiling my religion mix. Putting a fucking ton of effort into this one for some reason - I guess I just don't want to write essays and shit.
Pete Swanson's new record has been getting some plays too - I like that he's found a formula he enjoys exploring and is really working through it instead of bouncing around trying new shit every release.
I'm trying to keep the thread alive
I remember the days when I used to spend sunday afternoon listening to stuff people recommended or debating new albums on this thread. Truly halycon.
I wasn't complaining!
I know I know!
What's this religion mix btw? Is it the DiStape club?
I like Swanson but I don't know if I'll pick up the new one. I'm comfortable with what I have of his right now. Same deal as with Yellow Swans - a couple of records is enough to satisfy me.
Yeah, I've done a mix of new(er) stuff
but I'm also making a complimentary CD of old folk recordings & gospel and stuff. It's weirdly emotional listening through these old songs.
I know what you mean re: Pete Swanson - what seems to happen is that each record has replaced the last one, like I wouldn't bother listening to Man With Potential after Pro Style came out and now I can't see myself listening to MWP or Pro Style. I do hope he switches up styles after the next couple of releases, but not until he's perfected the noisy mutant techno whatever it is he's working on at the moment.
I'm going to go old school too
I don't even have last fm on my computer anymore but LBC has made the last fm thread fun again by saying stuff! Yay.
I've been catching up with hip-hop mixtapes from this year, some quality stuff has been found.
Kevin Gates - The Luca Brasi Story
Really solid, kind of spaced out bright and trancy Future-esq style thing but he's more wordy and dominent on the mic. Kinda reminds me of someone like Starlito.
Waka Flocka Flame - DuFlocka Rant 2
Only really liked one track: http://youtu.be/bcwScEB5ABU but hell that track is so good. The beat is genius.
Future - FBG: The Movie
Really solid again, Future is on one at the moment its rare he has much of a bad showing.
Rome Fortune - Beautiful Pimp
Has a few really good tracks, Get The Guap and Ice Cream Man the rest is solid enough but hasn't stood out on my first few spins.
Young Scooter - Street Lottery
Might be my favourite tape so far this year, just keeps opening up the more I hear it. He's got that Future thing going on for him. The beats are really good, its pretty much just stright up ace sounding and inventive. Free Brick 2 with Gucci Mane tape is pretty solid too but not quite on a par.
Young Thug - 1017 Thug
This is pretty batshit crazy, ultra catawarling autotune/rap/sing cross over business. Its a load of fun and strangly moving when it hits and ultra annoying and odd when it doesn't.
Highly recomend Young Scooter, Kevin Gates and Future tapes, I need mroe time with the rest really.
I shamefully still haven't heard the entire Future tape from last year
what I have heard I like, but I do wonder if it'll become too saccharine over an entire record. It seems that I'd be wrong judging by the critical response.
its kind of meloncholic and saccharine all at once
its that ballance that kind of makes it stand out really. Its got a light breezy air at times but then the way they use autotune and play off the melodies and bass and the shit they sing about its really kind of depressive, drugged out at times but they stil lsnap into this sense of fun, bravardo, aggression its wicked. On a whole its prob an aquired taste I just find it really sonicly interesting and not like much else out there at the moment.
Pluto was the 2012 album. Astronoaut Status was the 2012.
Pluto is pretty much front to back great. Some smashes and some r&b type stuff but it's fun all the way around.
ok
i mostly listened to a song called hewers of wood and drawers of water by kiss the anus of a black cat. you'd think it being a belgian guy taking from british fok and southern american music would add distance to it but that song and album hits my very hard.
saw kvelertak, they were awesome but then i just wanted to listen to darkthrone all week. the new one really is up there with anything they've done, maybe my favourite of the late period stuff.

Holy shit!
Megachurch are fucking AMAZING!
Also been listening to a fair bit of Ash Borer (finally got their demo LP :D)
fucking pressed fucking enter by accident
and Wode/When Wood Makes Graves - both great UK black metal. And Hurricanes of Love, some Brooklyn guy playing sort of psychedelic acoustic guitar and singing faux-Jamaican stuff over the top of it. Probably racist but really bloody great.
Mystic Pearl is excellent, huh?
