Fuck what other people think. Take Care is an amazing album and I totally disagree that it's burdened by a bunch of filler; for me, this is one of those rare albums whose length really works in its favour. HYFR is just fucking sweet.

A major goof ball and its a bit like watching your dad play at being a mega rap star but his albums are genraly listenable even if he does seem to rip off anyone thats cool in his flow every other time. The instros are usualy pretty wicked. He can be tuff to listen to at times, his flow just jars at points. But I think he does what Kanye is trying to do at times better than Kanye. He'll prob rip off Kendric Lamar next or something.

Lamar's a weak rapper.

Drake likes a bit of that action, he went for Lil Wayne back in the day, Kanye, Weekend last time. Prob gonna be Kendric and maybe Future this time around. His like some kind of hype sypher.

Lamar's had one critically-acclaimed album. I wouldn't say he's more popular with critics or more respected amongst his peers than Drake, though. Drake's pretty much still top dog of Europa League-level rappers.

and good at what he does he just likes to take these ideas from slightly more underground people a lot of the time and put it into his big budget stuff. He feeds of that underground coolness big time. But yeah he makes it work and hes defo Europa League level, semis or quarter final a lot of the time, I dunno is he raps version of Roma or something? IDK I've not played FIFA in years.

and i don't mean all that godfather of rap stuff, but when he starts rapping about catching bodies and popping niggas i can't help but laugh.

Lamar's album last year was good, undoubtedly, but he's not a standout rapper. Just isn't. Good, polished, inventive tracks, but he's a weak rapper. If someone's not allowed to say that without you acting like a child, then you should probably stop basing your personality on your hobbies so much.

hes alright at that sing rap thing. But yeah I still see them two as both on a par as rappers. Enjoyable but without much pure personality, energy or uniqueness to push them over into like Kanye range who at least has loads of personality even if I don't really enjoy much of him. Or like Lil Wayne in his prime. Or Gunplay or King Louie now. Or even Young Scooter and Future now who al lshine with a energy, personality and a unique vibe. Kendric sounds like a throwback compared to them a good one, pretty enjoyable one but still not a massivly exciting one just like Drake.

It's like A$AP Rocky. I liked the mixtape, like the guy, he's got natural suave, interviews well, but when it comes to the crunch, his material nowhere near lives up to the hype. I think i'd go as far as to say that bar '1 Train', which i'd consider one of the better tracks of the year, even recent years, his album was complete and utter piss.

Kendric is good but yeah he needs a push of some sorts it feels a little sterile at times. He does sound like he has it in him to become more though, he needs to bring out the rawness a bit. He's better when he goes into odd garbled alien mode like on Cartoon and cerial yeah.

It's out there, but you probably don't have the time or want to care. Fair enough.

Sure you're a good egg, but i just find it funny how various middle-aged, middle-class whiteboys have become the self-appointed go-to guy for said genres on here over the years.

its really style over substance and mostly copped from everyone else, like Main Attrakionz or well loads of people. Kendric doesn't quite do that but he doesn't quite shine either. He's just sorta there and doesn't quite have the ideas of his own developed fully yet. He's just competent, vaugly enjoyable, easy to listen to and easy to market outside of hip-hop, genrealy has a nice laid back aint gonna piss anyone off vibe about him. Good qualities I guess.

it was even on comercial radio in my tiny local shop one day. I liked the beat and its fun like Mercy but doesn't feel like the real deal. Its playing at being ruff rather than being ruff. You know you don't beleave it, sounds fun though and it has some wicked humor to it. Like you beleave Gunplay even if you didn't know he pulls guns out on people haha.

the best thing about it is the beat and the humor. But it was like a halfway house between Mercy being kinda fun and a little raw and the full on cartoon madness, violence and humor of Gunplay. Was Backsteat a satire or kinda poke at rawer stuff? Cos I dunno if anyone does that better than Gunplay with his over the top style but he does it while sound like he really means it and plays it up even more kinda like the diffrence between the Undertaker and Gilberg.

I mean, for all of Drake's talents, it's not exactly like hearing Straight Outta Compton, It Takes A Nation or even the Slim Shady LP for the first time, is it. There must be more vital hip-hop out there than this. Point me in the right direction, folks.

this is one of the strongest times in rap for years.start looking into the southern mixtape scene.its not the kinda stuff dis cover but if you speak to most pure rap fans who aint backpackers they'll all agree.there are countless classics came out this last decade.

He has zero interest in engaging properly in this debate. He knows that Drake's not a true rapper like Kendrick, he knows that he should couch the argument in terms of who's the better artist rather than rapper if he wants to make a fair comparison, but he's not going to do it because he's a gigantic troll.

I've twice addressed why i don't rate Lamar that highly as a rapper. You're just being ridicuously defensive. This is why more people don't get involved in the hip-hop threads, because they're patrolled by a bunch of cliquey, white, middle-class bores who think their opinions matter more than other peoples. Been some decent releases this year, but that's the only one that's really stuck with me. I think there's loads of really exciting stuff to come in 2013 though, and a lot of these mixtapes have good ideas that I'm looking forward to seeing be developed.

I lean more towards King Louie, Young Scooter, Future for my fix mind. It just seems a little more fun. Kevin is pretty undeniable though easy up there. I have no idea whats coming up this year, I only ever get mixtapes really and just play catch up when I can cos there are so many instead of looking forward to much.

Like Future mixed with Freddie Gibbs.

he's on the verge of being like proper old people hip-hop with words and that in it that mean something. Or at least appearing that way. Its more mature but with a real cool sound to it unlike Gibbs or whatever.
