You don't get many songs advocating infidelity, do you?
Loads and LOADS of songs complaining about it. There was some shitty pop song on the radio this morning with someone whining about their lover hoping on the good foot and doing the bad thing with someone else and it got me thinking- what are some pro-infidelity songs? There must be some.
I can't think of any but I listen exclusively to American Football and the Drive soundtrack.

Wherever I lay my hat, that's my home - Marvin Gaye/Paul Young
also
slightly tangential but you've reminded me of how much I love Jilted John by Jilted John
It Wasn't Me
Shaggy's a bit of an infidelity denier in that though.
Almost like he's ashamed of infidelity.
I want to know if there are any songs with lyrics that what their balls out and say 'yeah, I cheated. And what?'.
cliff richard and the shadows - a girl in every port & more
lou bega - I got a girl
tony ferrino - stuttering sadie from Stuttgart
+ The Wanderer - Status Quo
& I get around - The Beach Boys
but these are not really about infidelity, more just promiscuity
Wherever I Lay My Hat is similar but is actually addressed to a girlfriend in a kind of 'I told you I was gonna shag around' kind of thing
but these are not really about infidelity, more just promiscuity
true^
I've thought about it and my response to It Wasn't Me and have decided
I'll allow anything that isn't explicitly or tacitly anti-infidelity, while still being rooted somewhere in monogamous romance. Seems only fair.
Bad Penny by Big Black (maybe)
Not that it advocates it as such...
Area Codes by Ludacris
Boyfriend by Avril Lavigne?
if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with?
the pina coloda song
although he ends up cheating with the lady he loves...
Franz Ferdinand - Cheating on You
Gene Pitney - 24 Hours from Tulsa
24 hours from tulsa is such an arsehole of a song
Musically it's great but the lyrics are just so harsh.
Sorry babe, I'm leaving you for a girl I just met, literally JUST MET cos she's a hottie. I'M A SHIT.
Try Dusty's version then
Beautiful South - Don't Marry Her
The Pussycat Dolls - Don't Cha
Pulp - Eye Spy
Pulp - Babies
Pulp - Pencil Skirt
Pulp - Sisters
Pulp - Acrylic Afternoons
Jarvis, you're a very naughty boy.
Pink Glove, 59 Lyndhurst Grove, probably loads more
I've always assumed the majority of them are about the same affair.
Naughty By Nature - O.P.P.
Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac
All of Rumours pretty much
Pretty sure there's a tonne of rap and hip hop too, let me have a think
there's this one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC8j8-OCnoc
and it's a classic
While you're riding your bike
your girl is checking my mic
While you on lockdown
Ya girlie's takin' my cock down
This album is an absolute all-time classic, it's criminal that so few people have actually heard it.
couldn't agree more
Grinderman - Kitchenette
There MUST be more Nick Cave songs about this, surely?
I'm struggling to think of any.
The Ballad of Robert Moore and Betty Coltrane is about bigamy though.
John Finn's Wife is one I suppose.
Long Black Veil (though it's a cover to be fair)
Bonnie Prince Billy - Ease down the road
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSPEPdFowAM
Maine Island Lovers by Okkervil River,
which is an absolutely incredible song and everyone should listen to it right now-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZqSDJc_4Z0
yes, you do
I maintain that, in relative terms, you don't
Lots of raps, depends whether you class them as a song or not
Rap makes up a relatively small percentage of all music
Not sure they're advocating it, but these aren't entirely complaining about it either:
PJ Harvey - Oh My Lover
Josh T. Pearson - Honeymoon Is Great, I Wish You Were Her
Breakfats in Bed
by Dusty Springfield.
great typo
If my interpretation of "Gotta Go" by Backstreet Boys is correct...
"Listen baby I'm sorry
Just wanna tell you don't worry
I will be late don't stay up and wait for me
I say again your dropping out
My battery is low
just so you know
We're going to a place nearby
Gotta go."
John Legend - She Don't Have To Know
Also number one:
You can't say I don't love you
Just because I cheat on you
Tom Waits
Martha. Kinda. He's definitely thinking about it.
I never thought that!
I always felt like that was a song about a man who'd loved a woman, but moved on, and while he was in love with the notion of being with Martha, he was more in love with his present family.
It's the....
... "I love you can't you see" at the end. Smoking gun, imo.
Heart - All I Wanna Do
Woman bangs stranger, stranger bumps into woman a year later with the child looking just like him, awkwardness/hilarity ensues.
Thin Lizzy's Dancing In The Moonlight is from the bloke's perspective, "I had to say I stay with friends" but then opines "it's a habit worth forming, it's a means to justify the end".
Me and Mrs Jones
by Billy Paul is a belter.
And as for anything by Big Black - I can't take it as advocating any form of infidelity if you compare it to the lyrical content of Canaveral by Shellac. Poor Albini :(
I was under the impression that Canaveral was about JFK
but could be wrong
Pale Blue Eyes by the Velvets
Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody's Home by Ann Peebles
Highly recommended.

Wedding Present
Most of the Seamonsters album, especially Lovenest & Dalliance.
Jeff Buckley - I Want Someone Badly
MAMBO NUMBER FIVE
Nah, he's just not exclusive.
I think.
Elvis Costello - I Want You
or maybe he was the one been cheated? Nevermind , great song
TLC - Creep
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlZydtG3xqI
<3
Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird does this basically doesn't it?
Also Momus' Hairstyle of the Devil. And possibly Momus' entire back catalogue.
Love 'em and Leave 'em- KISS
Not sure if it's infidelity they had in mind though :)
The Soul Children - I'll Be the Other Woman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ht44KrofGDE
Amazingly confused - "It's ok, I'm happy for you to cheat on your wife, as long as it's only with me..."
Dance with me, Dizzy rascal
Atlantic Starr - Secret Lovers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy-quXVftWw
actually
watch this version instead
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i8sQnPfDh0
A couple from the perspective of the person being cheated on:
I've never really paid much attention to the verse lyrics, but I assume 'Cheat On Me' by The Cribs does.
And 'Come Pick Me Up' by Ryan Adams has the line "I wish you would... screw all my friends'.
Come Pick Me Up
I always saw as being a "despite you doing this I still want you back" thing.
Dolly Parton - Jolene
More about pleading another woman to stop cheating with her husband
Montell Jordan - Get It On Tonite
Cody Chestnutt - The Seed
I only want to fertilize another behind my lover's back
I sit and watch it grow standin' where I'm at
Fertilize another behind my lover's back
And I'm keepin' my secrets mine
...
Fertilize another against my lover's will
I lick the opposition 'cause she don't take no pill
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-no dear
You'll be keeping my legend alive
Robyn - Call Your Girlfriend
(although, technically, she asks the guy to break up with his current squeeze beforehand)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nv644ipg2Ss
Paul Simon - Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover
I suppose that's more a case of advocating divorce over continuing the infidelity, but his mistress is pretty unequivocal about carrying on with the infidelity rather than worry about working things out with his wife.
(that sentence contradicts itself, but you get the point: his future lies with his bit on the side rather than his wife)
Nicki Minaj feat. Lil Wayne "High School"
Die Young - Ke$ha
