The Beeb's music selectors...
Whoever selects the 'background' music for the Beeb's TV programmes is a genius. Never expected to hear MBV's Soon on TV, but there it was accompanying Clarkson et al through Africa.
Good job.

there is someone excellent in there
fuck buttons and cats in paris on top gear is another prime example
Sometimes I get the impression that the people who make their science documentaries
only do it so that they can play something that sounds like Boards of Canada over a late night city time lapse (and pretend it has something to do with entropy).
not that that's a bad thing
Watched a BBC4 Doc once (I think it was an Eco-protesters one)
with Olafur Arnalds in. Lovely
The beeb is quite fond of modern classical stuff like Arnalds...
I've heard Richter and Einaudi both used over the last few years.
By the same token
Charlie Brooker's programmes always tends to use Johann Johannsson over a polemic bit
BBC3...........
Merzbow on Basil Brush was quite unexpected
they've always been good
i.e. the long running documentary series (Arena?) uses an Eno song from Another Green World over its title card thingy
according to wiki its the title track
Mike Diver should know something about this, shirley?
Why?
bbc.co.uk/music has very little to do with BBC Television.
I'd be good at that job
where do I send a CV (a screenshot of my iTunes and the twee bribe offering of a packet of Cadbury's Animals)
Countryfile often has good tunes
Holy Fuck and Metronomy are two I've heard. I don't know why I sometimes watch Countryfile.. Sunday night veg out I suppose.
Heard Dial: Revenge by Mogwai last night
And have heard Deerhunter and Decemberists on there recently. I quite like the programme anyway, but it's made even better by hearing stuff I love over images of pigs and brooks and rolling hills.
BBC World News
only uses The XX first album. 3 consecutive reports, 4 tracks from that album. What is this 2011? Am I right?
Yes.
Yes you are
Homes Under The Hammer
A Mancunian bought a run down property sight unseen hoping to making a quick profit. As the camera followed him walking to the house, "Fools Gold" was playing. Then it was "I Wanna Be Adored" when that bloke presenter thought the house looked unloved and uncared for. There'd been a break-in and the backdoor was hanging off the hinges, so we had "call the cops!" bit from "Step On". Followed by "Blue Monday" when the camera showed the owner looking sad.
^ :)
I worked at HMV 20 years ago and we'd occasionally get a call from the BBC or ITV local news who wanted some blindingly obvious track for a news report. Them 'have you got 'sunshine on a rainy day?' Me (looking out the window) 'of course we fucking have, you unimaginative twat.' Or more polite words to that effect.
X Factor Audition Show
once used 'Hunted by a Freak' by Mogwai during one montage
I'm sure there was a time when pretty much all the music on Top Gear was
Unkle
olafur arnalds and ludovico einaudi
must be multimulti trillionaires from the amount that their music gets used on tv.
