shit songs from otherwise brilliant albums
I am listening to Arc by Everything Everything having been introduced to them over the weekend.
Armourland appears to be a shit song on an otherwise brilliant album.
Another example is Don't Stop from The Stone Roses. Painfully shit track, rest of the album is incredible.
What say you?

Doolittle is brilliant and timeless, but those opening notes of Silver always make me cringe and I always end up skipping it.
-
My Body Is A Cage - Neon Bible
I can't stand that song. A bad end to a brilliant album.
-
That's because it's a Lennon-Macca song sung by Ringo.
He means Don't Pass Me By, which is fucking dreadful. And I guess What Goes On, which is definitely the song you skip to make Rubber Soul seem good.
Octopussy's Garden is fucking boss, though.
-
Let Down
(Alright, it's not *shit* but it's by far the worst on OK C)
-
MOR off Blur
There's just something annoying about this one, probably too long, too relentlessly yelling and not very melodic.
-
Whaaaaat?
It's by far the -best- song on OKC. Oh, that moment when Thom's voice multitracks (swoon)
-
I like Don't Stop
it lets you settle into the album after starting with three knock-out classics. With hindsight they could have wedged on Sally Cinnamon or Elephant Stone or Mersey Paradise but it would have been too much - Don't Stop let's the album breathe.
Elizabeth My Dear is shit though.
-
If we're talking about The Smiths
it can only really be Meat Is Murder. 30 minutes of jangley indie and then 10 minutes of buzzsaws and mooing.

remember Marr saying somewhere how disappointed he was when Morrissey came back with those lyrics
to go with what was one of his favourite pieces of music he ever wrote
-
Similarly, Johnny Marr was reportedly much put out that, having written a particularly pretty tune, Morrissey gave it the rather less fetching title Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others.

I don't hate it
But I hate that even some of my musically-inclined friends think Bjork only ever did this one song, and branded me "uncool" for listening to her.
I had three of them gang up on me once. I was like, "but.. but.. Army Of Me! Bachelorette! Vespertine!!!"
In short, I do skip It's Oh So Quiet.
-
Love all three of those!
And every other track on that album!

The Decline of British Sea Power is my joint favourite album of all time (along with Turn On The Bright Lights) and Lately is the best track on it. It certainly takes its time to get going and to get to the end but it really is incredible. I am as staggered by your suggestion as I was by Theo saying Let Down was a weak song.

With you on Meat is Murder
I've always believed that the album is almost perfect, better even than The Queen is Dead, until it gets to the halfway point of the second side. Barbarism Begins at Home is half a song stretched out for what seems like hours and the title track is mawkish rubbish.
-

its the production...
...if they had just left it as a simple little guitar number, it would have been fine, albeit still decidedly average for their standards. but adding that Muse-esque voice and those ridiculous flatulent synths make it one of their very worst tracks. and it was a single, right? amazing.

Was thinking about this story the other day
Bernard Butler used to steal the same line and use it for We are the Pigs.

The 'ALL I'M SAYIN, PRETTY BABY'

-
The Beatles
I feel like The Beatles could not make a record without putting at least one song on that just fucks everything up. It doesn't necessarily need to be a bad song - in fact, if you were to take most of these songs and make an album out of them, I'd probably love it - but most of them are just so goddamn questionable that it ruins the flow of everything. And, like that album, I would still think that "Good Morning, Good Morning" was unlistenable.
Drive My Car (Rubber Soul)
Yellow Submarine (Revolver)
Lovely Rita AND Good Morning, Good Morning (Sgt. Pepper's)
Wild Honey Pie, Why Don't We Do It In The Road?, Everbody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me and My Monkey, Savory Truffle (White Album)
Octopus's Garden (Abbey Road)
Maggie Mae (Let It Be)SO THERE
-
Noooo, Seductive Barry is awesome
I agree that "I'm A Man" is the weak link on Hardcore. It's too much like Stereotypes/Country House/Charmless Man/Top Man-esque Blur for my liking.

-
The Power is SHIT
Recorded without Bernard, has a half hearted sessioneer strum on it, very little in the way of emotional impact.
Dropped by Brett in the rejigged tracklisting on the inner sleeve on the deluxe edition. Because it is SHIT.
-
I'm okay with the Power.
Maybe it's 'cos I really liked it when I was younger but I think it's a strong enough song to overcome flaws in the recording process.
If there is a weak track on Dog Man Star it's definitely This Hollywood Life. But even that's just about decent enough.
-
Absolutely this.
Who decided to put such an irritating whine smack in the middle of some of Sonic Youth's most lovely songs? Four minutes of vocalised constipation.
-
There goes my gun
