Phoenix
press release - copy paste
Phoenix
‘Bankrupt!’
(Glassnote Records)
LP - April 22nd
Phoenix will release their fifth album, ‘Bankrupt!’, on April 22nd on Glassnote Records. ‘Bankrupt!’ is the incredible follow up to 2009’s critically lauded ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix’, which sold over 1 million copies worldwide, was certified Gold in the U.S., and Platinum in Canada, Australia and France. The band also won the Grammy for Best Alternative Album. The track listing and album cover for Bankrupt! can be seen http://www.wearephoenix.com
With the success of ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix’ leading to a sold-out show at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 2010, the band’s live schedule this time round is even bigger still. A string of U.S. dates will culminate in a Saturday night headlining slot at this year’s Coachella, before embarking on a string of European festival performances that kicks off by headlining the Thursday night at Primavera Sound.
Bankrupt! was co-produced by the band – Thomas Mars (vocals), Laurent Brancowitz (guitar), Christian Mazzalai (guitar), and Deck D’Arcy (bass) – and producer Philippe Zdar.
The tour dates:
13/04 - Indio, CA @ Coachella [Headlining]
20/04 - Indio, CA @ Coachella [Headlining]
23/05 – Barcelona, Spain @ Primavera Sound [Headlining]
07/06 – Nurburging, Germany @ Rock Im Park
08/06 – Nuremberg, Germany @ Rock Am Ring
13/06 – Hultsfred, Sweden @ Hultsfred Fest [Headlining]
04/07 – Arendal, Norway @ Hove Fest
05/07 – Werchter, Belgium @ Rock Werchter
13/07 – Aix-les-Bains, France @ Musilac [Co-headlining]
14/07 – Porto, Portugal @ Optimus Alive
24/08 – Paris, France @ Rock En Seine [Headlining]
Phoenix sold out the Garden?
nee way
Dead excited for this, me.
when
Did they become big enough to headline all those festivals???
when they wrote Lisztomania
and Love's Like a Sunset
not playing any UK ones yet
maybe a shoe in for the final Bestival headline spot?
i
reckon bestival, latitude or lovebox
Apparently they're playing T in the Park... http://www.efestivals.co.uk/news/13/130218g.shtml
T in the Park crowd are gonna love them!
Fuk sake man, when they gonnae play 'at fukin Last Night tune man?
Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix was a fine record
Certainly more interesting than some of last year's top 5.
I love this band so damn much...
One of the few bands with a catalogue that's never failed me. Just excellent pop album after excellent pop album.
WAP was great, so too its predecesor, but
early Pheonix is, I don't know, a bit cheesy?
Their ever so slightly naff soft rock shtick is part of the charm for me
eet is okay, becos they eez french
zee french don't make a fuss about horsemeat
and they like their fromage, no?
you'd have a ball...
...in the Iceage thread.
New track
to be premiered on Zane bloody Lowe's show (sad face) on Monday at 7pm.
People upset over WAP being DiS' album of the year...?
Twats. Every one of them. Phenomenal album.*
*This post can in no way be used against me in the inevitable future and/or ignominius past. Ahem.
It was just played on R1...okay ish, maybe er...
a bit shrill and I can imagine it getting annoying tbh.
Hope the album is better...
The verses are great.
Don't love the main hook 'cause it's a tad shrill and OTT as stated above. The structuring of it all is a bit odd too. It almost feels unfinished.
Aside from that, I like it. Have a feeling it'll be a grower.
In case anyone wants a link

Yeah, and quite rightly so.
It only has 3 good songs on it, but you were humping it lifeless for some reason.
I can understand enjoying all of WAP or enjoying none of it
but there's something odd about enjoying 3 songs from it and not enjoying the rest.
The first six tracks are all great
The back few are so-so but sound good to me except for Girlfriend, which is a peach.
*3
Dig up any thread about the album and pretty much
the general consensus was that it was front loaded with the better tunes, and the rest was packed with filler tracks.
I can't listen past track 4.
But the songs all sound pretty much the same
(in a good way)
I reckon Lisztomania and 1901 are far better than any of the other
tracks.
To beef hair
Not many tracks are as good as these two. It would be the mother of all pop albums to have ten of that quality.
I prefer Fences to both of those
And Lasso is my favourite on the album. I'll take my indie points to go please.
But srsly, I'm with Icarus. The only thing that might pit the 1st two above the others is that they were the singles, and so everyone was more familiar with them than with the rest. They've all got as much staying power as Lizst and 1901. Imo anyway.
lasso is fantastic
Lasso was a single
so your indie points are served late and cold :D
Love Like a Sunset for me. Sounds epic on a decent soundsystem.
I wasn't more familiar with them. Didnt even know that they were singles
But guessed they might be because they're so obviously better than anything else on the album.
We need to change the past (opinions in this album).
Like it
Riff a little China Girl - David Bowie (stated in one of the comments)
New song is a bit of a cracker...
It's Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence spazzing out on a concoction of speed and bubblegum.
i like this loads
The new song sounds very good
Didn't realise how much I'd missed them until I heard this
It's great. Off to hammer WAP for a bit now....
Hmm this new one is decent but not one of their best
Still looking forward to hearing the rest of the album though.
new song is legit. I give it a 9.1.
Proper mecs
avec proper melodies. Love it.
Always get excited about a new Phoenix album
I hope they never stop making them. I feel like that 18 year old, NME clutching kid again.
So fucking consistent - everyone of their records is virtually flawless - but for me, Alphabetical is their finest moment so far. "Love For Granted" is just the greatest pop ballad ever made I think.
I just listened to Bankrupt.
It's good on first listen. Nowhere near as immediate as Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, although they've certainly gone all out with the bombast, synths etc. I'll have to listen to it a few more times before saying anything else.
Where did you hear it? Is there a stream somewhere?
It's, err, doing the rounds
I grabbed it because I'm an impatient bad man :(
Thanks for the heads up : )
There's a video up for Entertainment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBsRvthVhdw
Those kids at the start sure can sing.
how bizarre
still fits somehow. i wasn't too keen on this song at first but i'm liking it more and more
people are so cold nowadays it's commonplace
what about that lp title? It even has an exclamation point. No one has any money nowadays. Poor band. don't dowmload it, purchase it. Help them out.
They sold out Madison Square Garden, I'm sure they are doing OK.
playin
album release show Shepherds Bush Empire, April 22nd
Definitely gonna try and go
BWOOOSH!
Got a ticket in the presale. Feels quite bizarre knowing that I'm gonna be seeing them at Shepherd's Bush Empire just two days after they headline one of the biggest festivals in the world.
