the thing is
there is a point to be made about people with darker skin tone suffering more as a result of all forms of racism worldwide on a larger scale than any disparate white-skinned racial group.
but her argument that having white skin precludes you from the same level of racial discrimination is undermining the whole thing. people don't tend to suffer because they have white skin, but there are more racial divisions than merely differing skin pigmentation.
(also: the possibility of discrimination on the basis exists, despite not really occuring - the example of Malcolm X being anti-white doesn't really count, because of the extreme oppression people of African origin continue to suffer).

We called our band Whitey when we first started gigging
We played sort of fucked-up 60s garage type stuff, I think we were trying to be The Residents but using songs from the Pebbles/Nuggets playlist. Anyway one time I was explaining to some knobhead about the kind of music we played, and he said superciliously "Oh OK, you mean suburban white boy music". When I related this comment to the others, we all agreed that it was a ridiculous thing to say - like, what, we're only credible if we play hip hop or something? - and decided on the spot to call ourselves Whitey.
Big fucking mistake. We copped so much shit, everybody assumed it was some sort of white power thing, either heartfelt or like we were trying to wind people up with senseless cheap provocation. We stuck to our guns for about a year - I still think it was a good name - but in the end it just caused so much offense & bad feeling that we changed it.
