Is My Bloody Valentine the best band of all time?
like if you objectified it would you say there has never been a better band making music?

Well. I dunno.
Personally I think they're one of the most consistently brilliant bands of all time. But they only have 3 (well, that they recognise) studio albums, unlike some other bands like that-one-that-i'm-not-going-to-mention that have about 3 perfect albums and a couple of other great ones.
I'd argue MBV are up there with bands like Joy Division as being one of the most consistently brilliant and influential acts of all time. Obviously you can't objectify, this is all opinion.
MBV ARE one of the best bands ever.
but what about the radio heads!?!?!
*worst
*Are
debatable
Ho is My Bloody Valentin?
They're an excellent band but so far only Loveless has stood the test
of time. The new one isn't even a week old. I think the long time between albums, Loveless nearly financially ruining Creation and the perhaps unintenional secrecy on what they were up to for a long time adds to their legend. There are better bands out there.
Isn't Anything and the You Made Me Realise EP
are held in pretty high esteem, not sure I agree with your statement about Loveless being the only one that has stood the test of time. You're also understating just how influential and revered that album really is. I can't think of many bands that have an album like that that has been cited as "making me want to start a band" kinda thing. I honestly think it's up there with Velvet Underground & Nico and the like in that respect.
I'm not entirely convinced that the 'nearly financially ruining Creation' and 'unintentional secrecy'
bits of your argument are of interest to MBV fans. It's all about the music, and Isn't Anything, Loveless and the related EPs (five or so?) are all tremendous recordings. I agree that we won't be properly able to reflect on m b v until at least year end or a few years down the line, but it certainly isn't a disappointment (and that is normally a good sign).
no
Is Radiohead the best band of all time?
*Everything Everything
Is The National the best band of all time?
Is Weezer the best band of all time?
Think we actually decided Beyoncé is the greatest band of all time, guys.

no
and you know it.
This looks/sounds like one of the albums song titles
no, it's probably Fugazi
Clearly not, you silly.
no
i actually prefer the bands inspired by mbv than mbv themselves...cant explain it
not seen them live which must be an experience but i just dont get the production on their recordings, it irritates me
Totally agree with the first line
Wouldn't go so far as to say I don't like/get the production/albums, but I do think that other bands do better things with the shoe gaze sound and write better songs (as distinct, kinda, from crafting sounds). Soon is a straight up masterpiece, though.
Bardo Pond are better
They're certainly much more enjoyable live than MBV nowadays.
Best gig I saw last year was BP at the Croft in Bristol.
from looking at this setlist, sounds like their korea show was absolutely diabolical

oh god
what on earth happened there
Definitely the best band at generating DiS threads
MBV > Radiohead > other bands
no MBV arent even a band
its kevin shields.
probably if the world had only existed from 1988 to 1992
their pre-Creation material runs from very average to absolutely diabolical, and then they spend two decades doing nothing. all kinda counts against them, even if I love Loveless more than I imagine I'll love my first born.
One of the best
To find the best band of all time is impossible.
No
Clearly the Beatles are the best, they brought music on more than anyone else in a shorter period of time and have the widest appeal and most recognisable discography of any band since 'pop' kicked off.
I'd pick Kraftwerk instead The Beatles anytime
(well, I'm an electronic music fan)
I genuinely think...
...that there is an argument that The Fall are the greatest band of all time.
And they're not even my favourite band - need a band Top trumps to sort it out.
self-evidently not
if only because the cross-generational/-cultural consensus which exists for other critical darlings (the Beatles, Nirvana, joy division, radiohead, the pixies) doesn't exist for them. a hallmark of greatness, IMO, is an artistic x factor, an ability to craft idiosyncratic music which remains challenging even while their appeal broadens. Mbv don't pass this test because they hold very little appeal for peeps outside of our little Indie sphere. I love MBV, but I'm not silly enough to think they're anywhere near being one of the greats, especially since what they did has been bettered by artists following their lead.
I agree with everything you say except the last sentence.
Who has bettered their lead?
should be 'arguably bettered'
personally I think loveless is the pinnacle of shoegaze
.
also influence
Influence is important
That'd be a mark against Nirvana and Radiohead, then (as they each influenced mainly shit bands and were hardly that original themselves).
P.S. HERE WE GO!!
You're right on both counts.
Although that doesn't diminish their own achievements.
would agree with nirvana.
radiohead maybe, although their music post-kid a has influenced some great stuff.
they're in the top one.
Most people I know
Would not like MBV. Therefore, the answer is 42.
No. Tool are the best band of all time.
No of course not
Sugababes are the best band of all time
What lineup?
:))
