The Knife - Full of Fire (Single)
http://www.ohmyrock.net/2013/01/the-knife-full-of-fire/
A lot heavier than I was expecting after the relatively sedate Fever Ray album (which I still loved).

The Knife
I listened to 'Silent Shout' from start to finish this morning
Really hope they play Porto more than everyone else put together.
This seems pretty wicked on first spin.
Definitely feels informed by Tomorrow, in a Year
I like it, though not exactly 'fun'
pretty wild
i like it
Seems kinda messy
Quite liked it though, difficult to judge it without the context of the album
Glorious chaos
very interested in how this fits into the album.
HOLY HELL.
I was not expecting any of those sounds to come out of my speakers. I could not be more pleased. April CANNOT COME FAST ENOUGH.
I am so glad this isn't sedate
I like the chaos
ok
this is really fucking good!
I think they are causing a reaction very similar to the return of Portishead in 2008
but this seems infinitely more interesting than "Machine Gun".
Really enjoying this
Don't criticise Machine Gun though!
it just not belong to the my favorite songs on Third batch, but I like it
do not be mad, it was just a little comparison.
Woah, really good tune. Looking forward to the album now.
This is bloody brilliant
bloody bloody brilliant
Where to start with The Knife please.
both albums.
they ain't the fall
err

that's one of the albums I was talking about
in that case

yep them too
both
usually signifies 2
I know
Thanks, this little sub-thread has entertained me.
the start
their best album is Silent Shout though, so listen to that.
Thanks, that's what I'll be doing.
Deep Cuts (for lighter side) & Silent Shout (for darker side)
And don't forget the Fever Ray solo project of their singer.
Finally
The Knife appear to be making that 'pop' album they've always had in them.
where can i even hear this?
everywhere i look it's gone
try the link in the OP
oh
i thought this was the thread from yesterday where none of the links were up
sorryz
new album is 98 mins long!
http://pitchfork.com/news/48967-the-knife-album-shaking-the-habitual-is-almost-100-minutes-long-epic-tracklist-reveals/
ffuuuuuuck!!!
ah so they've delivered on one front after taking 7 years:
quantity!
Now the quality part - not particularly worried after how brilliant Full of Fire is
i hate long albums
argh
you HATE long albums?
yeah
what's the point? never gonna fall in love with an album that long, cos you'll never remember all of it. It's just a thing. that you'll put on sometimes and be like 'yeah this is alright' and then get bored of listening to ten 10 minute songs in a row and stop paying attention.
*sigh*
You'll never remember all of it?
You're kidding. You can remember what happens in films, right?
I actually kind of agree with him in a way.
40 minutes is fine. Maybe 60 at a push. 98's taking the mick.
gift
horse
mouth
It's not a gift horse though, is it?
Given that you have to pay for albums.
it is a bit ridiculous to complain when you're given 2.5 albums
worth of material.
But, I dunno, I think an album like Age Of Adz or something stretches how long a single-disc / single-sitting album can be in terms of a whole experience with pacing, repeating itself, etc etc - incredible album but I think if that was 25 (!) minutes longer it'd be a stretch
I'd say The Knife are probably capable of making it good, but even so I can't see myself listening to a 100 minute record very often
I every Sufjan Stevens
album was 15 minutes long I might actually be able to listen to them. Too much haribo.
Depends if you feel they've skimped on the quality of individual tracks
Innit.
Have One on Me
just approach it like 2 albums.
i.e. listen to a half at a time,
then go listen to something else.
This album's going to be completely fucking bonkers, isn't it?
It can't come quick enough.
Suitably mental video for it
This album's going to be all sorts of incredible isn't it? Video's a bit NSFW by the way
http://pitchfork.com/news/49304-watch-the-knifes-epic-video-for-full-of-fire/
Already been taken down
:(
98 minutes? Fucking brutal single?
bring it on
yeah
fucking hell. proper on board.
It's really great
has this horrible/amazing sense of panic throughout, awesome
This is fucking excellent
So irked about missing tickets to the Roundhouse shows. Must get some, I get the feeling this is going to be superb.
Not quite what I expected from The Knife
This single needs some editing.
yeah.
Its really just the vocals though isn't it? This sounds like a killer Oni Ayhun track that Karen accidentally sang over.
This sounds like I like it a lot less than I actually do.
no
sounds like fucking fischerspooner
ALWAYS A GOOD THING
I wish everything sounded like that first Fischerspooner lp.
superb...
...awesome, various adjectives etc.
not sure whats going on but i like it.
today has been a great day for new tunes.
i fucking love music.
Yeah this is alright.
anyone know if this is still up anywhere?
er...
Try the link at the top.
going to listen to this later
pretty stoked, for sure. longform and unhinged? yes please.
Addicted to this
So good. And the combination with this video loop makes it even more weird: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0X3WZeB_f4

Sounds a bit Nathan Barley.
^THIS^
It's a bit of an atrocity isn't it? Reviewed by me here: http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4145986-this-weeks-singles-28-01-13--prince-paramore-the-knife-pulp-disclosure-alunageorge
Disagree wholeheartedly.
After yet another waffle-y wildly overlong state-of-the-nation address it seems a bit silly to comment on the tune not being good enough to justify its length too. (paraphrasing, but the gist is there)
glad someone noticed that irony.
jesus christ, DiS
i too, and most people on here
clearly disagree with your review.
if you want a 'techno inspired song' that is long and as good as heartbeats, go and listen to silent shout. it's full of long songs that are better than heartbeats
never said I wanted that
I've listened to this new Knife tune 3 times now and it just seems like a ridiculous self-indulgent joke. And I bloddy love the Knife, and was obsessed with Fever Ray, and love me some Factory Floor and Gang Gang Dance and stuff, so it's not like this wildly off piste for me. I don't hear what you're hearing, and you know what, that's cool, I don't have to live inside your head nor you inside of mine. Life goes on. Diversity is what makes life beautiful. And othersuch cliches.
Had to turn off after around 3 minutes
This isn't very good.
Interestingly
A lot of the people who really like this tune, heard it on Friday afternoon/evening, whereas most of the Monday comments seem less enthralled.
Also, the people listening last week, are you sure it wasn't the weird low-quality mash-up of a retail sampler that was going around?
my blogger friend at work first heard it this morning and commented that
'this is not the kind of music that get's me going on a Monday'
and followed that comment with a thumbs down assessment.
Could be onto something here
I first heard it when I got in from a night out and my initial reaction was it was great. Now I've heard it a few times I'm not as sure. I'm not as keen on the last couple of minutes anyway. Didn't stop me gushing about it in writing when I was half cut though, did it? Am I glad I didn't have the chance to rush out and buy it on Saturday afternoon, I wonder?

It sounds like an overlong clunky mess to me
nothing really to hang on to, a bit like most of that awful Oni Ayhun project one of them did that just sounded like randomly generated techno presets stuck to a vauge time signature.
i LOVE the first five minutes
the way it evolves, and the sound design is awesome. its eerie and interesting. But after that it does get a bit messy and loses it's way somewhat.
This hasn't dampened my excitement for the album in any way though.
I agree about the first 5 mins being great
but am struggling find anything in the seconf half.
The Knife have already written a great 'rather long' song called The Colouring of Pigeons.
Will be very interested to see how it fits into the album
While
I respect its creepy atmosphere of industrial dread, I can't see myself actually listening to it all that often...
They're creepier with each album...
Hope they will not turn into a death metal band or something...
good track
astoundingly awful video
perhaps the single worst one I have ever seen
what the wtf is it?
Sub-thread
how effing intense if Tooth For an Eye??? amazing
chilled vibes, man.
How long can you stare at the cover of the new album without blinking and getting dizzy?
