  - Totally agree.
    
    I just don't think he has the mental strength to patch things up with his old bands.
    
    The tragic irony is, people are far more prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt every time he puts his foot in it with the press (compare the furore over the skinhead/Union Jack stage thing in the early 90s to the "it was just.. a thing.." reaction over his anti-immigration comments... and far worse, his flippant remarks about the Norway massacre.) But he just digs himself deeper into a hole every time, as if he thrives off being hated.
    
    I don't get that man at all - he's the archetypal outsider's icon, but he craves attention more than Madonna in 1985.

Talk Talk..?

I suppose partly because the version of the band people would want to reform never actually played live in the first place... still *daydreams*

I actually think Talk Talk are less likely to reform than the Smiths, given that hypothetically if Morrissey did patch up his differences with the rhythm section (big if, but still) then he might be up for it.

- What is the stumbling block for Talk Talk reforming?
  
  As I understand it, Mark Hollis chose to retire from music to concentrate on being a parent - presumably his kids must be pretty much grown up by now. Also, despite being 'retired' he does very occasionaly pop his head up above the ramparts...

  - 1. Obviously Hollis would have to be interested
    
    2. Talk Talk only really existed as a 'real' band up to The Colour of Spring, and then it became basically a studio improv thing based around Hollis and a bunch of session musicians. So they've never played anything live off Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock, and I think Hollis has suggested that in fact the way the songs were edited together means they'd be impossible to play live 'properly'.
    3. Obviously he could reform the Colour of Spring gang and maybe manage to get some versions of the later stuff into their set, but that seems a bit weird. Or he could form a new band of sessions musicans called 'Talk Talk' to try and play the late material, but that doesn't seem like his style, especially as he dropped the Talk Talk name for his last record. If he could be tempted to play live I'd imagine it;d be more like 'Mark Hollis and friends play Spirit of Eden' or somesuch.
    
    God that's a tedious post, but I can't deny I enjoyed writing it.

- Talking Heads actually did reform
  
  in 2002 for their Rock'n'Roll hall of fame induction, for three songs. A 'proper' reunion seems unlikely, but could potentially see them doing something one off for charity or whatever.

It's been too long, you would have thought they'd have been approached by ATP in the last few years and they could have easily put together a bill based on Dischord... but it's not happened, got to be a reason why.
I don't think Unwound are that bothered either, but it's nice they're making the effort with archives etc.

- Fugazi haven't split up, they're on hiatus
  
  presumably because they don't agree with reformations so they don't want to be hypocrites if they come back.
  
  However, ATP aren't going to make them reform. They never did ATP because they have a rule of not doing festivals so I'd guess they also don't let organisers of events influence them.

depends what you mean 'reform'. A one-off show then Lift To Experience or Talk Talk might, but not for a full touring/new album dealy.

  Also, when Truck was cancelled in 2007, Brian Jonestown Massacre played at Oxford Brookes, with Loz on drums, Mark and Andy playing on a few songs, including Drive Blind.

Apart from those discounted by the dead member scenario I always live in hope...

Spacemen 3, Lift to Experience... you just never know. Who seriously thought MBV or Godspeed would ever come back?

That said, I'm not exactly holding my breath for either S3 or LtE even though I'd kill to see them again!

  ...but no, it's never going to happen. I think the one off "almost reunion" benefit gig for Natty Brooker in 2010 was the best we'll ever get - Sonic, Willie B Carruthers, Jonny Mattock, Mark Refoy + Kevin Shields, The Jazz Butcher and Jason from Spectrum. Missed that one too :(

I've heard Moz say in an interview that if they ever were to 'reform' it would just be him and Marr.

As much as I like The Smiths' rhythm section, I wouldn't say they're absoloutely integral to the sound of the band. I'm still hopeful we'll see Morrissey & Marr back together one day.

To be honest...

The only band that is absolutely never going to get back together is The Smiths. I have learned to never say never, since Stone Roses and Refused got back together, but I think they're the only band that is never, ever going to bury the hatchet.
