Bands that sound exactly like other bands but do a pretty good job regardless.
Ozma sound very much like Weezer.

Algernon Cadwallader/Cap'n Jazz
Just came across another Ozma while browsing Spotify, they are excellent.

circle pit/royal trux
Velveteen/Death Cab For Cutie
To the point where one of their albums was used for a practical joke about a leaked Narrow Stairs.
No complaints from me seeing as the album is more or less a remake of We Have The Facts... and is therefore better than Narrow Stairs.
Ringo Deathstarr / My Bloody Valentine
Milburn/Arctic Monkeys
S.C.U.M./Toy/The Horrors
Los Campesinos / Showaddywaddy
the xx/Zero 7
Hammock/Mogwai

Mogwai
can't youtube at work
they may have one or two tracks that have similar feels, but if you look at their entire back-catalogue they're miles apart.
Chasing After Shadows...
is the only Hammock album I own. The entire record sounds like it could be a Mogwai record. Must admit I havent heard much of the earlier stuff.
don't think it sounds owt like mogwai
as in it isn't just formuliac quiet/loud post-rock.
listen to 'maybe they will sing for us tomorrow' for sure, one of my favourite albums.
Its all about the Bass guitar,
Young Team era Mogwai. Will check out some other Hammock stuff like you mention but this record is plenty Mogwai.
Band of Skulls / anything Jack White

I like their first album
Radiohead / Queen
Tycho / Boards of Canada
Most modern bands / A very small number of old bands
Advisory Circle / Boards of Canada
The Omega Experiment
They're a carbon copy of Devin Townsend and yet they sound excellent.
Carbon Based Lifeforms / Solar Fields
