yeah I know it's too soon.
album cover. Stuff of nightmares!
I nominate Christopher Owens's 'Lysandre' - it just seems horribly self-indulgent and 99.989996% of self-portrait cover art is terrible
If the album sounds like that cover looks it'll be fantastic.
just how desperately some people are clinging on to the early 90s.
It's like they designed it with this thread in mind.
they might as well have just literally shit on something
Nightlands - Oak Island
Widowspeak - Almanac
yeah let's just go through the 70s rock discount bin
at the local natives one, so i spose that's something
Ive been there, and penile ignition is no laughing matter
Are in session on radio 6 next wednesday.
One of the most eyecatching covers I've seen in ages! Not heard them but will check it on the strength of that.
These threads are always wrong: people hating on things just because they've not seen it before. Wheras the blandest, laziest, twee'est stuff goes completely unpunished.
who are these people who actually think that any Storm Thorgerson covers other than his Pink Floyd ones are good?
the mars volta kicked his ass to the kerb after he made them this:
there's a wordy explanation on the designer's site:
which throws a lot of 'deepness' at it but in the end it just looks horribly lazy
it must be...
There's a world of difference between awful and not your sort of thing.
I like them, but this artwork is just so cheap and nasty
not sure if there are good stock photos
that artwork makes them look like they'd have absolutely no substance at all
couple of great ones dispersed with some absolute shite
is all I can think when I see that cover
just very 'hm, don't understand why you would have that a cover' maybe they're trying to corner the supermarket audience
Contender for worst title too.
I really, really like them, but there is something deeply off putting (for me, anyway) about the cover art
is not going to seem suitable for this one.
The cover for Frances the Mute is probably one of my favorite album covers ever. I don't know why. When I first bought that album, I just STARED at it. It transfixed me, on a really weird level. I love it.
Is the WORST cover I've seen in a long time.
Just to be clear, I mean the Twin door Cinema Club cover you're inevitably talking about. Not the Bowie one - I think it's awesome.
Mexican font, Disney font, pixelated ship's wheel, Jamaican flag.
that iceage one is alright i suppose but its only a part of teenage breasts away from being the viceiest thing going
Has clearly just thought of an excellent way to kill the guy on the right without anyone knowing
the mbv one is super boring, probably the worst one there. I like the Pissed Jeans one a lot actually.
reminds me of this Neil Young cover:
crotchety old man discovers webcam Space Odyssey style
looks like the cover an old multipack cd-r
don't like the typeface remotely either
Also from Pitchfork today
the irony <<< my grammar <<< shit factor of image
It's like he read half a book on Matisse and based his career on it.
its a photoshop of the NBA 2k13 game cover.
Looks like there's some bits missing.
Waka Flocka shouldn't have a hand, they kinda bodged one. I think we'd be here all day if we put hip-hop mixtape covers in this thread haha.
I can't decide if this is brilliant or awful.
Its a bit Master Chef Juniors.
Way to make it tough on people stumping for your tunes being good Mr Blake.
Apparently RZA & Brian Eno are on the record, pretty sure they're not pictured on the cover tho.
you can but it as a print with the album!?
the album better be good dude.
but this reminds me he can be a bit of a tit.
its kinda lol its called overgrown cos he's well tall and standing next to a mountain wit ha stag on it.
But I am not a massive fan of the Night Marchers Allez Allez artwork. It looks like the doodlings and cut and paste antics of a madman.
But yes, in general, his stuff looks awful these days, so dated.
10 years on the album 10 minutes on the cover art - I'm sure thats been said a million times.
actually into the Jamie Lidell one - I think he comes from the right place even though I'm not necessarily into his music.
The PVT cover ain't too bad though? c'mon..
we're getting there already with this cover and this track
Farthing Wood Dub by Hype Williams.
The sandbag link now shows the single artwork for the LP (not surprising because he has previous in just using the same cover OVER AND OVER)
more clip art barf
Wacka Flocka Flame - Du Flocka Rant 2
I think I'd like it better if they used a Sega CD template
Johnny Marr - The Messenger
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE ON YOUR OWN ALBUM COVER
STRFKR - Miracle Mile
Looks likes someone has just cut round him in Paint.
see also torus' yard sale artwork
luh dat shit mayne
and terrible photoshopping
looks like used condoms hanging from the tree
didn't notice it was edited - were they not able to photo him at an actual underpass??
Just had to leave my desk. That is amazing!
Unlike the Yeah Yeah Yeah one that's ugly and brilliant.
Vinyl copy is a big disappointment.
...because he still hasn't tidied his bedroom.
Even more awesome!
this is fucking amazing
what a wuss
This is great
that is UTTER SHIT
I can't even imagine what kind of a moron would agree to that!!! haha
wins this thread hands down!!!
then you think it's a bad cover regardless.
That just defies belief when that happens
Not that bad really.
(Album's really good btw).
But usually Leif Podhajsky does way better
you could see it behind him a scene where he disects someone. It almost looks like an abstract 80s coffee table book print of human insides. Heart, lungs, umm pipes... Its alright, not too fussed either way.
but I never contribute anything to it - I always just sit here and shake with silent laughter in my office chair. To help correct that tendency, can I get an opinion on this:
Knowing nothing about the music it represents, I don't feel qualified to judge if it's fantastic or terrible as a cover.
irony achieved, but it's pretty terrible
but the face of Tyler, the Creator on it in the foreground makes it. It's actually one of my favourites at the moment.
i think you can judge the cover as-is, without knowing the music. that's the whole point right? if you judge the music on the cover then yeah, you maybe should rethink that. but judging the cover? pretty much okay with me.
some additional significance that isn't immediately apparent.
Just on its own, it seems a bit lazy but mostly just goofy and casual. I would expect the tone of the music inside to follow.
It would have been much better. Minimalist but eye-grabbing and not awful and tacky.
plus people can draw whatever they want in the white square, like a penis or a penis shaped like David Bowie
In fact I kind of like it.
would have been lolz if he stuck to his guns, it would have got him more attention. This cover is just kind of there. Unless he's done a cover of Under The Bridge by the Chilli Peppers on this album?
minus points for looking really earnest again
clearly someone who shouldn't appear on his album sleeves
just some snow and a wall and some hazy shit.
Which is a shame cos the music is quite nice.
and parading around their parents' house, waving it in the air...
Pretty bad, tho.
this whole ... 90s thing
Morrissey - Kill Uncle reissue
Rainbow Arabia - FM Sushi
90s stale prog vibes, like a fart to the face
at least it's a different take on the traditional gloryhole
bad album cover/album title combo. It could be an ad for a generic whiskey or jeans
cos somehow the 12" looks really really nice. IT SHOULDN'T THOUGH IT IS JUST A PICTURE OF A PEACH AND A FLOWER WTF.
but there's worse
though it's a great album despite being a bit short, the artwork is horrid:
(actually the best album cover of the year)
but still not good. kinda awful even
