The last time I had snow days off work
I sat in my living room watching the huge flakes falling while listening to Spiderland by Slint. It's not about snow by it sounds like snow to me.
Maybe because I bought it in the legendary winter of '10
but Public Strain is a snow album for me. The first song especially sounds like blizzard music.
yep
also the front cover reminds me of snow. well...it is snow.

Mew

Ben Frost - By The Throat
Better if you go out walking in the snow at night.
Yeah this is perfect
Anything heavily distorted works well though. Obviously Ravedeath (though Radio Amor is an alternative) by Tim Hecker, which also features Frost :)
Re reading this, it looks like I don't know the first thing about By the Throat
It's only perfect if you enjoy being terrified.
also brilliant on windy days

Was just about to post this
INFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFORMA
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Had to walk to college one day in really heavy snow. It wasn't unpleasant like a blizzard, no wind, just really heavy falling, really still. Everything was coated in white, was really nice.
Had this playing on headphones, probably the most enjoyable commute I've ever had.
Joni Mitchell - River
Elpmas by Moondog
it's not snowing here in Cornwall though :(
Heres a playlist I made about a year ago with Bamnan about the snow
http://open.spotify.com/user/118268690/playlist/6lbHbMpWiZlbxhQFjDuUf3
Never understood people that think music to listen to in snow means finding songs with words related to snow in their titles
I recommend Matryoshka's "Zatrecenie" - a great album in itself, but lends well to being played in a snow landscape.
Well, most of the 'ice' and 'snow' tracks in my playlist above...
...have a very wintery feel (Coldplay excepted). I suppose it's a shortcut since a lot of the time the artists do actually mean something with the titles of their songs.
I could just listen to Yellow Swans' Going Places, Ben Frost (good name) or the whole of the first Field album etc (but it wouldn't be as much fun).
yeah it was the Coldplay one that jumped out at me
Fair enough, I think I have some editing to do
OK - amended playlist and JAG for the mix now on mixcloud
It now has some Low, Grouper, etc for some of the other posters...

Are you from Worcester?!
I'm from Worcester (sort of).
I am indeed.
Last year I went for a walk in the snow and listened to Hex Induction Hour.
Wierdly perfect for that sort of weather. Especially this version of Winter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZu6FJerf-U
weirdly perfect in any weather in my view
although half of it (including Winter, I think) was recorded in a cave in Iceland which might explain its snow-compatability.
I don't know about it being perfect in any weather.
I love it, but I find I can only REALLY enjoy it when the weather is below a certain temperature. Which is odd, I don't have that with any other album.
YES
Youth Lagoon
Is a cracking little album for wandering around in the snow
.
Laura Marling - Goodbye England (Covered in Snow)
Two Dead Minutes by Blood Red Shoes
Just has this cold, dead, bleak feeling right from the guitar intro, and was the first thing in my ears today during my snowy hike to work. Also good for long drives thru rolling hills.
Wintermusik by Nils Frahm
Just finished listening to it there, what a marvellous album.
Holy Fuck - Lovely Allen
Vespertine
Grouper - Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill
Parenthetical Girls - Entanglements
Portland doesn't get that much snow, but the winter of '08 saw a solid month where a single day didn't go by without it snowing, hard.
That album got me through that winter, and that snowstorm. There's something about the way the instruments move that feels like drifting snow at times.
for me
Grouper sounds best during the magic hour on long, clear summer nights.
Coteau Twins - Lorelai OR Little Spacey
OR

Olafur Arnalds
Stare, the EP he did with Nils Frahm, would be perfect in the snow.
Going to try it out tomorrow.
Sigur Ros
Anything but especially Staralfur. I got the LP for Christmas years ago and spent a miserable freezing winter's day listening to it on a family outing to Barry Island. It is not so much snow I suppose, more that really cold, frosty, crisp winter morning with a blazing sun shining down. I can almost smell the winter when I play that song.
Atlas Sound
Fleet Foxes- White Winter Hymnal
I remember the song coming on the radio when it just started snowing during my first year at university. Now every time it's cold or snowing it just seems to fit the mood so well!
The whole of Mew - Frengers
any Galaxie 500
or early Low - pre-TWLITF.
Have had Trust on pretty solid rotation this weekend
So I can agree with you there.
Also that Martin Rossiter solo record from last year was great during a walk yesterday.
i was listening to the skyrim soundtrack earlier
seemed pretty fitting

Hadn't heard of most of these other than the obvious (Fennesz, Basinski , Mark Eitzel and the Beach Boys). Nice job:
