DiStape Club - December
Si_Badvibes has abandoned us. He is a fickle and capricious leader. I will take up the mantle of DiStape Club organiser for this month if everyone wants to get it started in time for Christmas/is happy to send me their addresses. Si, if you want to do it obviously that's fine too and thanks again for organising last month's.
Themes suggested so far include space, body parts, films & money. Make some more suggestions if you wish.

jINgle bells
I like the space theme myself
... sending my address right now.
stockINg
Space is a sound idea
Not as much excitement as I
Not as much excitement as I
That went well.
Not as much excitement as I had anticipated. My plan is to pair people up as and when addresses come in because there ain't a lot of time to go before Christmas. OFFICIAL THEME ANNOUNCEMENT: SPACE.
space is cool
especially if we can be kinda ambiguous with it? or does it have to be like, well cosmic?
sending my address either way.
I'm in
Address on way...
Me too!
Details sent, thanks for taking this up.
Sorry I've gone quiet
I haven't abandoned you- I just got a bit too busy. You are welcome to do it, but it's probably easier for me to as i have all the addresses and stuff.
I'll tell you what would be really cool- I'll edit the spreadsheet so I can take out anyone who's dropped out. If I then send it to you, can you send out all the 'notes' with the addresses as that's the ball-ache for me really. The spreadsheet will tell you you is sending to whom and their address.
Send a note with your email address if you're cool with that
Oh, ok!
I've paired some people up already but I can just adapt the spreadsheet. I'll send you my email.
the mass email is the easy bit, surely?
Just mail merge it. You probably need a desktop email though, not a web-based one.
Not sure you can mail merge DiS messages tbh
BTW
have listened to about third of your mix. Fricking love the first track, and will be playing it out when I'm DJing. I will update you further you lovely bastard.
Just had to fire up the old itunes to check what track you were on about
Yeah, it's a cracker. Listening to it right now. Where do you DJ?
dog and partridge in Bolton regularly
And wherever else i'm asked to.
ah yeah, i got ahead of myself there
if we handed in our email addresses, so the mails could be merged that would make things a hell of a lot easier for Si or feedr
Do you DJ in Brighton?
Noticed you live here when sorting the addresses out'cause I'm a creeper.
I used to
I had a night (and a blog) called Not For Resale at the Penthouse and a club night with live bands at the Hope. Used to write for Source mag too but I gave it all up a while ago. Would quite like to get back into the Djing but I don't want to be doing it 'til 5am or something riddik. These old bones can't take it. Pretty sure I could still drop a better set than anyone in this town though, haha. safety wink.
I'm hopefully putting a few bands on next year
So if you fancy playing out some bangers I'd be most grateful and might even be able to pay you...
hell yes
I'd love to. If you trust me to play some records. I trust you to put on some good bands.
speak you laters, got to watch Deadwood - nearly finished series 3. second time round, even better.
anyways...........
Oh and I hadn't abandoned you
I WAS TESTING YOUR FAITH
I'm in again
Space is a good theme and an inadvertent tribute to Patrick Moore.
I'm in
sent name & adress
LETS DO THIS
address sent
So do I send the details to Si or brainfeer?
Send them to me if you want and I'll continue pairing people up
and when Si sends me the spreadsheet I'll work wi' that.
INdependence Day
IN
space no one can hear you scream
Sending mine out today
so look forward to having your minds BLOWN gorkys_forever and Dusty_Nothing.
forgot to take my bIN out last night
I messaged thee. Space eh. Sounds like a shoegazey month then.
.
PS whoever didnt send last month - for shame. For SHAME
Intergalactic!
Keith P
Yours is being sent out in the morning
This arrived today!
I haven't played it yet but a double disc is always welcome! There are a few tunes I contemplated putting on mine too!
Nice! I look forward to hearing what you think of it.
Also, the CD covers were not meant to be that small, no idea why that happened.
I've just listened to Disc 1
Ad have enjoyed the Grimes and Laurel Halo tracks more than I think I expected to.
Updates on Disc 2 will follow tomorrow...
I debated putting that Grimes track on
because it's only loosely-related to space. I didn't think much of it at first but it grew on me a lot
I think it still counts.
I spent my journey to work this morning trying to work out which film I knew Disc Two Track Two from, then realised it's Clint Mansell and everything he does is film music.
There's a couple of spacecrafts called Genesis so I'm having it.
I love the Orbital track on Disc Two
The artwork is inspired too.
okay i just got an address in my inbox
whats the theme this month?
and can some one send me a fucking november mixtape. well annoyed i didnt get one :(
first one to pm me for my address is the lucky sender..
Hello!
The theme is SPACE. That's a shame that you didn't get one, I'll box the ear of the person that was supposed to send you one.
i wanna know who it was too
Some guy called
Geoffrey McNasty so we should've guessed what would happen really. I'll send you a copy of mine if you want but it won't be for a while now because I'm going to Sweden soon woooooo.
classic Geoffrey McNasty
prick
I didn't get a November tape either
and I haven't heard back from the dude I sent one to either.
It's almost like it never happened.
Some people are just a bit shitty.
Stick with it hombre. As above, I'll send you a copy of mine if you like but it won't be for a bit.
Yeah, I'm a *total* dick, sorry.
I've been swamped over the past week or so and I didn't want to get back to you until I'd digested the mixtape properly and had a chance to think/write a little bit about everything on it. It's at the absolute top of my to-do list this week.
Loving the cover art, and the card was a really nice touch, so cheers! It's actually the first I've received this year - is that depressing?
oh hi!
it's you from the Quietus thread. Well then, you might appreciate the tracks I thought might go to waste. This has made up for it all. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it. I'm a bit rusty, haven't made a mix for about a year or so - so apologies in advance for any shonky segues.
Glad you liked the art and card - happy to be your first of the year - after the 14th is when the tidings will rain upon thee.
I can double-up if people want a copy of either CD.
I've already shot my wad with the secret tracklist for Names but PM an address if you'd like one.
I don't know if I should reveal this yet (though I guess it doesn't matter, so long as they don't respond)
but the address I've been sent is a motherfucking SPACE LAB. Is that fo' real, or just a bit of theme-related bants?
Either way, what with it already being so late in the month, and with me having all manner of Christmas gubbins still to do, I'm gonna issue a friendly warning that it probably ain't gonna be with you this year. Although I'll certainly try... I already know the opening track...
i had that bloke last month
itz fo realz
Cool, well, if it's YOU
(i.e. the guy in the spacelab, not j_hindsight), I've sorted the tracklisting and I'll be looking to burn/package/post it in the next couple of days.
Just seen this
i was still looking at novembers feed and wondering why it had all gone so quite.....i'm in and i have an address so should be sending one out after the weekend.
Harry Wright....mix in the post tomorrow.
oi where's my partner?
Didn't get a tape last month, don't even get to send one this month. This is the worst christmas EVER
I'm sorry buddy
I'm in Sweden at the moment. I'll pair you up with someone A$AP
got your message thanks
I got you collossal horse, album art will no doubt involve some kind of oversize horse
I'm already excited
Who doesn't love getting pictures of really big horses in the post?
I got Lightcyclerider. I hope you like riffs and 10 minute long songs that don't really go anywhere. Because when I think of space apparently that's what springs to mind.
well I hope you like hastily strung together collections of music
with annoying/entertaining soundclip interludes
update:
cover art is done, tracklist mostly done, time to burn cd currently lacking
Dean in Wigan will have one on its way by Tuesday.
It might not be there by Xmas but if you're waiting on me to make your Xmas special, it was probably too fucked to begin with.
It came yesterday, Christmas is saved!
I gave it a listen last night and the 2 that stood out for me were the Fuck Buttons and Kyuss tracks. Quality. Gonna put it on again now. Cheers!
:(
http://i50.tinypic.com/2zycryb.jpg
this needs to stop happening.
Simon in Earley
Your disc is ready to go. Just need to packaging it. Hopefully with you before Xmas so you can go beyond intergalatic with your turkey.
Funnily enough I'm moving house in the new year from Yorkshire to a couple of miles from where you live. Not in a bad-stalking coming-to-boil-your-bunnies way. Just moving to Reading with work. Maybe see you down the Rising Sun some time.
Great
Look forward to the CD. Commiserations on the move (I like Yorkshire).
Hope has left the building
Still no sign of my November compilation. If anyone wants to do a swap of the Names collection note me. You can even see what you're going to get from me as I posted the track-listing of my Name collection the NOvember thread
Oh wait - so the address I got in my inbox is to get a tape?
Okay, I'll get it sent this week. Burn it tonight.
Think I got you
But afraid the mix ain't gonna make the post this week...tougher than I thought and time's at a premium at the moment, sorry. Should make it out Monday but it's then gonna get caught in Christmas post, etc.
I hold out some vain hope it'll reach you this side of 2013. Unless of course we all die on Friday.
Difficult theme
Started work on it last night.
The typical track with a space-related title
seems to be a long and rather dull album filler track by an electronic artist. Alienz by Armand Van Helden is a particularly good(bad) example of this.
you are both
very very wrong.
Maybe not so wrong on the 'long' part, admittedly.
But, mostly electronic artists? dull filler? Difficult?
No way.
Stand by for launch
I'm not very very wrong
It's more difficult than names for crying out loud. I'll tell you this for nowt, my names mix was much more varied than this one's going to be
nah
theres loads to choose from
bands with spacey names: mercury rev, spaceman 3, orbital, galaxie 500 etc
songs with spacey names: space dementia, that moon, tides of the moon etc.
get a grip man. FOR GODS SAKE THINK OF THE CHILDREN
I can count the number of tracks I have by Mercury Rev, Spacemen 3, Orbital and Galaxie 500 on no hands
does that mean you can count in your head?
or that you have no hands?
I think you know what it means
Just began shortlisting
and there are literally HUNDREDS of space related tracks. Try thinking Planets, Rockets, Aliens, Stars, etc.
You could probably do a couple of CDs each on the Sun, Earth and Moon without having to look too hard!
Paul from West Yorkshire
Yours is on it's way tonight
It arrived today.
Looks to be a satisfying mix of stuff that I know and like (eg. Mum, Smog), stuff that I don't really know but have be planning to hear more of (Lower Dens, Frankie Rose) and stuff that I don't have the foggiest about (Stumbleine, Edan). And all wrapped up with an Ultrasound track - who I haven't heard since a gig at the Water Rats way back when. Thanks!
You're welcome
Somehow an Ultrasound B side has found it's way onto both of my mixes so far. Not really intentionally but they seemed to fit. Hope you find something you like in the unheard tracks!
Hey, if you got my address (W6 7PH), I'm going away tomorrow so no rush sending it 'til next year
There'll be people in the house though, so no robbing me y'hear.
Also: sidrrrs, I'm still really liking your mix, but I need to listen to it more to know exactly what I like best. Loving that Bubba track though.
Also also, since I never posted the tracklisting for my last one, here it is:
1. Bobby Patterson - Right on Jody
2. Tuxedomoon - Baron Brown
3. Buck 65 - Indestructable Sam
4. Dr Rubberfunk - Harry the Guitar
5. Gary Wilson - Gary's in the Park
6. Dessa - Dixon's Girl
7. Her Space Holiday - Lydia
8. Radio Birdman - Aloha Steve & Danno
9. Elisa - Asile's World
10. Thelonious Monk - Thelonious
11. The Walkabouts - Rebecca Wild
12. The Triffids - Kelly's Blues
14. Chumbawamba - Jacob's Ladder (Not In My Name)
15. The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower - For Marcus
16. Pete Green - The Ballad of Phil Jevons
17. Bobby Womack - Sweet Caroline (Good Times Never Seemed So Good)
18. Green as a Primary - The Follies of Ceyx & Alcyone
19. Madvillain - Figaro [Madlib remix]
20. Silver Jews - Smith & Jones Forever
21. Yo La Tengo - Tom Courtenay [acoustic]
22. Solillaquists of Sound - The Roots of Kinte
23. Hoodoo Gurus - Leilani
JUDGE ME.
Oh yeah, and I posted my space one on Wednesday so look out for it, spacelab boy.
That would be an interesting CD
I don't think I've heard any of it, ever!
That's good to hear
I'm out of my depth here when it comes to new and/or 'cool' music, so it probably turned out a lot older and more mainstream than most others. Whether that was justification for including a Roland Orzabal-goes-drum-and-bass track, I'm not sure.
David P.
your CD is being tracklisted as we speak. I 'm trying desperately to keep 'Space Dementia' away from the mix. :p
Warning, there's going to be a lot of 'moon' in the songs and titles. I hope it's not cheating!
I've taken some advice
from another Diser on the matter - as a result there might be some Pixies in it. Hope you like it (them).
Don't know if I'll make the 31st deadline
again. Oh well!
James in S11
Your DiStape is on its way. Being posted today, when it arrives is a different matter...
G.Warren from Reading
Apologies for the late tape. I'm away for Christmas, but am working on a tracklisting as we speak. Will be with you early in the new year.
Tom Oberst, yours is compiled but unburnt to a cd
will sort this in the next bit of time.
El_Goodo
I expect to send yours early in the new year. Compiling is well under way but Christmas and all that is getting in the way. The shortlist is looking good though and I've some ideas of the running order developing. Should end up being decent, if a little late.
By the way, hope you don't mind it being addressed to El_Goodo. It's the only name for you I've got!
It'll be in the post on Monday...
Hope you like!
Hi H!
I missed your post in the last week or so...
Nice one, brilliant! I can't wait to receive it and give it a good play. I'll be sure to let you know what I think. Oh, and it's all cool with El_Goodo, I like to keep things on the lowdown, incognito like.
Cheers, Dave
Here's the non-physical
(and therefore inferior) version for anyone else that wants to hear.

CLEM
Just thought I'd tag onto the end of all these saying the same thing, nearly done but Christmas has been pretty hectic, will endeavour to get it to you early January!
So where the bloody fuck is it then?
Christ!
No need for that language is there? It went into the post on Tuesday so have a word with your postman.
Sorry Joe in Hackney Wick
I'm another who won't be able to finish the CD for a few days.
no worries!
awkward month for this sorta thing innit. no rush bud!
really sorry M. Spicer...
its coming
sorry collossalhorse
its been ages since i made the list, bastard thing just hasn't been sent. going tomorrow morning
No worries
I haven't sent nine off either to be fair.
So Harry Wright....
did you get your mix that I spent time and money on. Or can't you be assed to say thanks?
Same to for gorkys_forever and Dusty_Nothing
but put more politely because I understand if you've been busy what with Christmas and stuff.
Harry same goes for last month....
harry wright is tbo by the way
as in thebeautifulones. I'm pretty sure he's quit DiS, but surely he's receiving CD's in the post?! Must he not be wondering where they are coming from?!
Second mix in a row that i've sent out and not had any reply to....
And still not received one for this month. And yeah who isn't busy....perhaps best people don't try and stretch themselves by burning a cd.
eh? you didnt get mine??
Yes i got yours! (velly good)....but sent another copy out for si who got a latecomer
and never heard back from them....i dunno, some folks.
more apologiessssss
laure, your cd was finished weeks ago but i keep getting error messages when i go to burn it. gone through 5 cds so far :( as soon as i get this sorted (even if it means borrowing someone else's laptop) it'll be in the post! sorry for the delay!
Don't worry
mine will be late too, but it will arrive!
I'm still deciding on the tracklist, can't make my mind up.
Decision and burning will be made tomorrow, I've got to get on with this!
I'm looking forward to finishing mine off: not sure it's really exciting tbh, but it should be very atmospheric. Getting the feel for mixtaping back again. Looking forward to January's assignment. Is it to early to make a suggestion?
Colours.
Nature.
Food.
Fighting.
MxBx
I fancy nature
that would be a good call .. or could just push me to include too many bucolic tracks!
Nature's a great idea
I reckon that'll be next month's theme bar any huge mutiny. I'll probably start pairing people up pretty soon to give everyone loads of time.
Could you guys do me a favour
And either reply here if you've not received a mix for this month or last. Or send me a PM if you want to be anonymous. No need to put the culprit's username 'cause I've got all the data filed away... I'll cut the non-senders out for next month's much more liberally than I did last time.
I still haven't received mine :( I'm totally unlucky when being paired up
BUT i shall be sending mine to my person hopefully on Monday.
Also thanks to -dan- for sending me his mix from November. It was lovely.
Not received one yet for this month
I only posted mine on xmas eve though so i wouldn't be surprised to hear it hadn't arrived yet
I'm posting on Monday
all going well
Apologies, haven't been on here all over xmas.
To clarify;
brainfeedr - Many thanks for your mix especially as it was an extra copy to make up for me not getting one last month. Have only had one listen through so far but it's going on my ipod for my commute next week.
I sent my Space mix out and know it's been received so all good and unless there's another David P on the site it sounds like I'll be receiving one shortly!
:D
Sending mine to David P on the 2nd
working on it as we speak :)
Thank you!
Arrived yesterday morning. Only had one spin through each disc so far but liking what I'm hearing. Will report back after a few more plays.
Sorry for the delay again
couldn't manage the post office after work three times in a row - I persevered.
Glad you like it on first listen, a bit of everything!
Great mix, really enjoying it
Know and love Sufjan, Smog, Lotus Plaza, Pixies, Metz & ATDI. Can't believe I've never got round to checking out Slowdive, loved that track. Leila was very interesting. Always been put off checking out Ringo Deathstarr because of their name but enjoyed it. Reminded me of an early Mansun. Alcest was very good too, never heard of them. Very weird but suitable ending with Disco Inferno. The only thing that didn't really grab me was World's End Girlfriend.
good to hear
that youliked it. WEG can be an acquired taste! However, this is not typical of his music, he has made more 'ambient' quiet music before - You should try it, it's very beautiful.
I need to apologise for the cover, I'm not really good at this!
Sorry!
I was away for xmas and only just got the message. To the lucky (unlucky?) chap who lives in surrey I will get a mix out asap!
Oh, hi Lightcyclerider!
I'm also being tardy with this one but you should receive yours this week.
Great!
Looking forward to it!
By 'this week'
I did of course mean 'next week.' I'm sure you got that. Yeah..
(Sorry I'll get it sent off soon)
Jamie in South Yorkshire it is in the post!
The post seems to be screw up this week due to the holidays but I reckon you should have by Thursday.
FFS .... screwed and it
cheers for yours last time around btw
I never acknowledged it in the thread because I was away. Ian Dury was a lovely little touch ;-)
Good stuff!
Hi
Can I join in the new year? Is there an email address or person I message?
Thanks!
The more the merrier
PM me your address and I'll add you for January.
DAN from S'sB in LONDON
Yours is absolutely now finished and ready to post tomorrow.
Apologies for the massive lateness.
This is me, but it hasn't arrived yet.
New Year's post-Christmas post, I guess (hope).
IT ARRIVED
(Actually it arrived t'other day, but I've not been on here, and I *still* haven't had a chance to properly listen to it). Anyway, the artwork is BRILLIANT, and the tracklisting looks ace as well. Thanks!
nature sounds good, big though could be split up
i was also thinking animals, monsters and myth, war, science (non space), covers, remixes, body parts, dates/numbers, colours, history, geography/locations, inanimate objects, birth/death, darkness/light, food & drink, non english song names, weather, 7 sins and 7 virtues, travel, the teenage years, drugs and drink, heaven/hell(religion), boy/girl, love/hate.
I like Monsters & Myth
and Inanimate Objects. that sounds like fun/impossible
Food & Drink would be a good one too.
sorry Spicer
keep running out of CDs....
goddam cyclic redundancy check
TOM OBERST YOUR CD WENT IN THE POST TODAY
I apologies for the rush job cover.
CHEERS GOT IT TODAY
Will give it a spin tomorrow, only think I know a handful of the artists so I'm excited. Mr. Warren, yours will be burnt tomorrow, and hopefully posted by Monday, might be Wednesday though.
Could whoever got the one off me let me know the tracklisting plz?
I seem to have deleted it and I'm a bit OCD about things like this. I know what songs were on it, just lost the order.
Yours should've gone to sonicspaceman if you want to PM him
or go to his house and hit him or something.
Andy Vine
Your Space Mix has reached escape velocity. Will be in the post tomorrow.
Ace
I think I've listened to some of your mixtapes from your blog before so this is a bit exciting. Did you do a noise/dubstep one once?
(this was possibly a few years ago now)
yes, yes I did.
wow, someone heard it - and you remembered it! It was probably 3 years ago now.
Thanks for the vote of confidence - I'm a bit out of practice since those days so maybe don't expect anything quite like that, but this Space one does start off in pretty similar territory to that dubnoise one. If that whets your appetite some more.
:)
I think it stuck coz I heard it around the time I was recommending a lot of noise to a guy at work and he was playing me a lot of dubstep. It was almost exactly the length of my commute as well
G WARREN BLAST OFF
It's in the mail, hope you enjoy it.
Good work nowherenigh
Great mix really enjoying it. Bold start with R. Kelly :D Good balance of stuff I’m familiar with Flying Lotus, DangerDoom, Fuck Buttons and bands I been meaning to check out 65daysofstatic and Dismemberment Plan. Definitely need some more Rolo Tomassi in my life. Top marks for the sleeve notes too!
One of the best tracks on Prob500's excellent mix
was by Marnie Stern, and bargain-hunters may be interested to know that her latest album is currently going for £2.49 in the play.com sale!
