Juju & Jordash - Techno Primitivism - Will not stop raving about this record; it's the most creative and exciting electronic record I've heard this year. It's experimental and crazed but it still makes you want to dance even when they put Matthew Shipp piano over a techno beat!
Actress - RIP - Yeah, I still think it's his masterpiece.
Daphni - Jialong - This is so so so good; guaranteed to make everyone dance. That opening track!!!
Vessel - Order of Noise - Really underrated and subtle piece of compositional style mutant techno. Think it's gorgeous.
Madteo - No Noi - I don't even know how to describe this.
Ukkonen - Isolated Rhythms - like Pantha du Prince before he got predictable. Love how warped it sounds in places
Four Tet - Pink (this has been so overlooked imho)

Liked the Shackleton and LHF releases too but I find them a bit indigestible because of the length.

There have been some amazing EPs too.

Truss - Ganymede (tbh this year I've had a full-on Perc Trax love-in)
Old Apparatus - the quartet of EPs they released was so special
Emptyset have had an amazing year, but I think only the new Raster Noton really counts for the purposes of this thread. Medium is basically noise terrorism.

Ekoplekz/Nick Edwards and Lee Gamble is all noise stuff for these ears.

So so impressive

I've never really done one thats pure any one year before thats why I wanted to do it. Its tougher to get it all fit together rather than it being hard to find good tracks tho. Just cos you can't find awsome conecting tissue from other years that you just know will make a mix sing. It'll hopefuly be an interesting snapshot of tracks from this year tho.

Plus it kinda depends on how offended you get if someone plays a retro leaning modern track like Head High or something. If you'd rather someone dug up an old bit instead that it sounds like or you're happy that it just bangs.

But maybe that's because i'm not really a fan of any of the dominant trends at the moment, plus i've been going out dancing less. These are some records/tunes I really liked though:

Is an odd one, I find them really hit and miss. Some of it is really awful and other bits are just sublime. I've really liked Xosar, Jahiliyya Fields, Bookworms this year from them. Some I'm on the fence with or can take or leave like Bad News or Vapauteen but yeah thats about it. So I dont think I'd give them #1.

L.I.E.S. isn't far off that noisy thing with a lot of released the Jahiliyya Fields album is an ambient/noise synth thing and a load of the techno on there is bangin and noisey. Same with anything from Hieroglyphic Being. Blawan's techno projects Karren & Parasella all nosiey as hell. AnD hard as nails. A lot of bits I heard on Semantica are pretty nosiey. Spectrum Spool gets on these lists too. Blackest Ever Black. Madteo, Sotofett have a really odd outthere quality to them that takes hints from that noisy thing at times too. You'd hear some of it in clubs at times however mad that sounds.

You'd have a hard time dancing to anything PAN has put out this year; I mean that in the best possible way. I just find it odd that sites which themselves state their brief as 'dance' music are covering Jason Lescalleet and Aaron Dilloway.

liek a mad build up of noise that then drops into some beats and bass on another record and you're off again. Its odd but yeah works and is working with odder and odder stuff sometimes haha.

I blame Boomkat for being so reductive in their descriptions of Dilloway's stuff. 'Techno-not-techno', ugh.

Its a pretty fun track, I've got it and like to put it on when I want a little lift or whatever. But yeah its mega cliche and all that. Wouldn't be my number 1 but soem many people from so many diffrent scenes have played it maybe it was inevitable that it got it in so many lists.

its the baby baby baby sample that kills it for me its so over done and he just knicked it off Pearson Sound didn't he, it really rubs the wrong way, just sounds annoying. The bassline is kinda catchy tho. I prefere other bist from him thats for sure.

Sounds like melted chocolate being drizzled in my eardrums, really soulful. Not my absolute favourite, or as infectious as Norse, but I do enjoy it.

and its one of the most frequently used samples in house music. So Pearson Sound stole it from a fair few people first ;-)

but that basmore track came like 4 seconds after that pearson sound track appeared and got played out again and Bashmore pretty much just does it the same. I mean its house everything is retro goes without saying. This sample doesn't work in this instance and did in pearson sounds.

Still maintain that His Money is a better tune than Why They Hide Their Bodies..., but I like pretty much everything on it I've heard.

Joris Voorn - Goodbye Fly/Spank The Maid. Another couple of stompers from voorn.

Funk D'void - Balance 22 and Nic Fancuilli - Balance 21. Both excellent tech house mixes. Two of my favourites of the year along with some of the fabric mixes that have been mentioned by others above.

It's class. Also Gary Becks album. Think was mentioned before but it's worth restating.

Some deep house wit ha slight retro garage swing to it, nice and deep, warm and it has a seriously nice switch up at the end which gives it a bit more hype.

DJ tool beats only cut up by Omar S, its too much fun to mix with and easily the best track on that 12".

Mad ear worm of a track the melody gets in your head and wont budge. Love the tropical vibes.

More tropical vibes this time from a guy in scandinavia tho haha. This one is an epic deep and dubby recline in the sunshine kinda house track with a breakdown that goes on forever and I love it.

I get a little nosiey here with aggy bleepy almost Zomby-esq 8bit synths and some kinda seagull led atmosphere swung rushing house thing from Portugal.

Sanys – Daily Situation [Downfall Theory]
Raw dubby analoge acid house bubbler. Simple but effective.

Conforce – 24 (Gesloten Cirkel Remix) [Clone Basement Series]
Real nice techno track with a killer mellody and kick drums that keep on coming.

October – Singularity Jump [TANSTAAFL]
This one really kicks, really deep tuff drums and big bass but its those Detroit-esq grimy strings that take this one to another level.

Da Sampla – Frictional Beat #6 (KMFH 808 Dub) [Wild Oats]
DJ tool beat edit from Kyle Muther Fucking Hall, just playing with samples from Anthony 'Shake' Shakir and an 808 drum machine. Raw as hell but I could listen to it all day.

Kowton – Des Bisous [Pale Fire]
Pure hype, some kind of grime/house hybrid from Kowton. Massive bass, raw wearhouse beats and killer grimy strings that just keep going. Kinda like the middle point between D Malice and Levon Vincent. Oddest peaktime track all year bar maybe Objekt Cactus which I unfortunatly didn't find a home for here.

Jus-Ed – Blaze (Doe Do Dab Mix) [Underground Quality]
Really deep rolling dubby house music with a little edge to it, underground quality are too good. This one just keeps coming and settles you into a warm little wormhole.

Xosar – Tropical Cruize [L.I.E.S.]
Easily one of the best tracks to come out of L.I.E.S. this year and maybe one of the most conventional too. Big kick drums a load of bass and some seriously spaced out deep melodies. Its one you can sit in for ages.

The Organ Grinder – Universe [4Lux]
Big room 90s US garage rip off that kicks pretty hard and has a nice sense of fun to it.

Madteo – We Do... (DJ Sottofet NYC Dub Mix) [Wania]
One of my favourites of the year, I just can't stop playing it. Big retro raw 90s garage drum workouts and a slinky winding fun synth led bass line that just keeps giving like some kinda raw cousin to Daft Punk's Burnin'.

Jus-Ed & Fred P. – Prodject [Underground Quality]
More deep warm house, this one has tons of melody and jazzy samples, ist another you can just sit in for days.

Soundstream – Julie’s Theme [Soundstream]
New Soundstream, only just arrived yesterday before I did the mix. Its a killer cut up disco track, might be the best he's done since Live Goes On and Love Jam. Big bassy kick drums and good time vibes, awsome.

Trance Yo Lie – Cosa Ce Sotto [Wania]
Maybe the best track of the year? Maybe... really odd looping sleazy string led, late night disco thing from Sex Tags Mania. I can't stop playing it.

2 Bit Crew – Just Can’t Seem [124 Records]
Mega bait reto 90s big room house vibes and it makes me smile. Love the raw drums and programing. Love the ravey melody and samples.

Zigg Gonsaless – Music (Original Balearic Dub Mix) [Power House]
Its prob by Shed, doing his big room bait retro banger thing, the organ riff is sublime and it really bangs.

CURE – Cure A [CURE]
No idea who this is, but its someone pretending to be Shed whoes pretending to be someone really retro, but I love the drums and more organ ravy riffs.

Head High – Rave (Dirt Mix) [Power House]
Shed again with an absolute anthem. Pure retro unashamed big room fun house music.

Joy Orbison – Ellipsis [Hinge Finger]
Big room JO anthem, which still holds up to my ears, got rinsed but its a laugh, that bassline is a kilelr and those breakdowns and samples do it for me.

Andrés – New For U [La Vida]
I cant end a bigbait2012technohousemixtip with anything bu ta big bait end of night anthem or three and not play this sped up hip-hop anthem. Lighten up it'll make you smile.

Might give some people an idea of what things sound like, hope it helps. But yeah just listen its way easier than reading my bollocks haha ;)

i might do a more techno-focused mix this weekend then to accompany this - although i tried to make a shortlist last night but ended up making a crate of about 100 'best' tunes. way too much good stuff this year.

go for it, I don't have enough hard ass techno to justify a whole mix of it, I usualy just stick it in with the bass and hosue stuff. There is a limit to how many Blawan tracks and projects I can stick in one mix before I feel like I'm rippign him off too haha. Kinda bummed I didn't put a Parassela track on this mix really but couldn't really find a spot that worked.
