End of the Road 2013
first headliner to be announced next week. Biggest act ever to play there apparently. Who's going? Who do we think it is going to be? Who cares?
I have a hunch it will be Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
- Relevant artist taggings:
- None
-
I
Think realistically, must be either:
Flaming Lips, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The National or Eels ( though i think Eels are probably smaller than Mogwai/Joanne Newsome)
they said Band on twitter, so i think that would rule out Sufjan.
-
I bought an early bird ticket.
Nick Cave would be nice.
As much as I enjoy my time there, sometimes I wish it would give itself a kick up the arse and liven up a little. -
yeah me too
the year Caribou played was funny because people didn't really know if they would be frowned upon for going a bit nuts
-
They
Kinda have the folk thing going on. I think they have diversified recently though: Mogwai and Wild Beasts last year, and Grizzly Bear/Alabama Shakes/Graham Coxon this year.
-
Fair point.
I enjoyed everyone on that list besides Alabama Shakes and Graham Coxon. I've been disappointed by some of the stuff in the tents of late. I generally love the Local stage, but it was quite poor last time.
-
I
didn't think this years was quite as good as last years, but saying that, i did still like it for the atmosphere.
If it's any of my suggestions above, i'll go.
I think Nick Cave is most likely, just cos its fitting in to his tour announcements ( Oz and US announced last week) and they have wanted him for years.
National would also fit in, because of them playing ATP this weekend and then EOTR being free to announce them after this weekend.
-
I remember seeing tweets going on about how much they love Nick Cave
so it seems likely. Hope it isn't Flaming Lips, their festival shows have descended into farce.
I'd probably say the last couple without the Woods Stage were my favourites ('09 and '10), but I have a blast every year so I can't really moan -
well
No direction home is taking a year out till 2014
'Here's an e-mail we received from the NDH organisers.
Dear ticket buyer.
No Direction Home Festival 2012 was a great success and lots of fun.
It also lost a good deal of money. Not more than we could cope with, but more than expected.
We had planned for NDH to get somewhere near to breaking even in the second year, and that is now perhaps a tougher target than it was.
We have decided to take a year out from No Direction Home in 2013 to give us time to get our planning right, to create a fantastic line-up and to build on the feel that everyone liked this year.
The change will be a disappointment to everyone who has already bought tickets or who was planning to come along and we regret this, but overall we are happy with the decision.
Welbeck Estate was pleased to host No Direction Home’s first year, and is supportive of its return in 2014.So, we will refund all the ticket buyers and we'll do so with as little hassle as possible. We hope you may decide to come to End of the Road instead in 2013 if you are not coming already.
Refunds will happen automatically starting on the 12th December. Do not apply directly to Paypal or Google.
If you haven’t received your refund by the 21st Dec, please email tickets@nodirectionhomefestival.comIts a great testament to the success of the 2012 festival that so many of you chose to buy a ticket for 2013 without hint of a lineup.
We hope that you are as excited for NDH 2014 as we are and we will let you know dates as soon as they are confirmed.Best Wishes
The Directors
No Direction Home Festival
December 2012' -
they gave away shedloads of tickets in the week running up to that, and it still felt empty
nice site, had great potential. Probably needed to offer something slightly different to EOTR though
-
i
Think possibly my morning jacket.
-
nah...
Not bigger than Mogwai/Newsome!
-
idk
they're huge in the US. headlined the biggest festivals etc.
-
I don't think they'd be big enough here to single out as being bigger than previous acts as they have
would be a bit of a let-down for a lot of people I reckon
-
Polyphonic Spree
"Biggest" ever band.
JimmyHuntspill this'd this -
Even before then
Explosions in the Sky, Yo La Tengo twice, Mercury Rev, etc.
I'd love to see someone similar to Caribou. A few more upbeat acts for late night.
-
^if they did...
..you could get St Vincent for free. See? Two for the price of one..!
-
Friday morning
Not one but TWO headliners. And some other bands. C'MON!
-
Heard
Some exciting bookings at the Xmas party on Tuesday but only know a few! Personally excited for the Sat night headliner. Definitely a much more ecletic lineup this year than last two I reckon.
-
Can
you deny Portishead and Nick Cave?
-
It better be Portishead now you've said that
or the whole thing will be disappointing for me
Mnemosene this'd this -
Well
Probably too big for EOTR and will be at latitude instead.
-
I think it is pretty established
that one is the Polyphonic Spree, no?
-
Actually, you can pretty much guarantee it is going to be a great line up
as I didn't by an early bird for the first time, due to last year being a bit boring. Hope so.
-
I'm don't think Portishead are so huge that it is unthinkable they'd play
it would be one hell of a booking if they've managed it though
-
Nah
They said they are playing. Nothing about headlining.
Very disappointing if they are one of the headliners!
-
zahidf and chickenbones this'd this
-
Portishead playing Latitude would be the dampest of dampest things ever
absolutely no way that would work at a festival of that size. maybe in one of the tents...
-
And we were all wrong...
Via Twitter: Belle & Sebastian, Sigur Ros, Daughter, Palma Violets, Damian Jurado, Angel Olsen, Barr Brothers, Pokey Laferge, Serafina Steer
-
that
is bloody amazing.
Just got a ticket!
-
Great
First announcement ay! All we need now is an electronic act to headline Sat in the Big Top al Caribou + Brakes, Darren Hayman and the regulars and I'm a happy bunny.
+ Woodpecker Wooliams in the first annoucement I'm really chuffed about!
-
So what do we think?
As excited as I am about Sigur Ros, whenever there is a brilliant booking like that I always imagine how incredible it would be on the Garden Stage rather than the Woods Stage. Bit underwhelmed by the undercard (Palma Violets?!), any tips for the lesser known ones?
-
They
Would never be able to fit on that.
Anyway, horse thief were good last year, and Daughter and Serafina Steer sound decent!
-
pretty underwhelming lineup so far
aside from Sigur Ros of course
-
you
Mean aside from two of the biggest headliners they've ever had?
-
No
pleasing some people i guess...
-
yeah I know of course, but it is still the best festival stage I've ever seen
so all the other stages seem pretty boring in comparison
-
Serafina Steer
Great lyrics
-
2 big names. 7 I'm not remotely bothered about.
= underwhelming as far as I'm concerned.
-
true
Look at it as a necessary evil to get the big bands.
Otherwise, they'd be stuck with Midlake and lambchop as headlining!
-
So
The greatest live band ever (Sigur Ros), plus a load of boring shit.
-
So so so so happy about Sigur Ros and Bellend & Seb
We bought early tickets this year after last year (our first time there) blew minds. Sigur Ros are one of those bands who I have wanted to see live since I first listened to Takk in 2007 but have always eluded me live. CANNOT FUCKING WAIT.
Belle & Seb were a bit shit at Latitude so hoping this will be better, more of the first 4 albums please.
-
Daughter are good
don't know any of the others, they always have tons to entertain with anyway.
automatik this'd this -
indeed
just can't get the ambiance of those early years out of the system. Explosions in the Sky on that stage was phenomenal
-
You say that
Like it's a bad thing ;). Anyway, look at some of the headliners on that stage: Calexico, Mercury Rev, YLT, EITS, Fleet Foxes, Modest Mouse, Wilco... nothing wrong with that lot :). I genuinely prefer the headliners from the 3 years I went with the Garden Stage to the 2 years with Woods.
-
Never been before, but I have a friend who wants to go every year.
And I love Belle And Sebastian too much. So as soon as I actually get money I am probably going to get my ticket.
-
those
Are good bands, but if they are garden stage headliners and they are getting bigger bands for the main stage, even better:)
-
so
for the next line up announcement I want:
Headlner: Nick Cave or Eels
Major bands: British Sea Power, I am kloot, Frigthened Rabbit, Edwyn Collins, Wedding Present, Django Django, Sharon Von Etten, Jens LenkmanSmaller Bands: Melody Echo Chamber, Pond, Wave Pictures, Darren Hayman, Twighlight Sad, Iliketrains, Steve Mason, Haim.
-
Really excited that Angel Olsen is playing
I hope that means some kind of tour around EOTR too. Her album Half Way Home is one of the best debuts of 2012, if you're into wild-voiced folk.
I wonder if the National could headline. They'd fit, and they're meant to have a new album out before summer.
-
I've decided I'm buying a ticket for this on payday (25th) and going with my friend
Anyone know if the pricing tier is likely to have changed by then?
-
Hmmm
Headliner: Yo La Tengo (headlined twice before, new album out, why not?) or Sufjan Stevens or Joanna Newsom or Elizabeth Fraser (I can dream...) or maybe Bat For Lashes
Major bands: British Sea Power, the Wedding Present, Mount Eerie, Perfume Genius, Jens Lekman, Sharon Van Etten
Smaller bands: Tall Ships, Citizens!, Johnny Foreigner, Lower Dens, Menomena, Dutch Uncles
-
Also, who's everyone looking forward to, sub-headliners?
I think I'm most looking forward to Daughter.
-
surely too big?
they headlined latitude
-
well
They have two former latitude headliners playing this year already...
-
Would I be wrong in thinking Sigur Ros > The National
In terms of massiveness?
-
at
The very least, id say they were on a par. Sigur may be a little bigger at the.mo, but if so, not by much
-
David Byrne and St Vincent
Quite some of the acts not really for me but pretty big announcement here! Plus BO NINGEN!! Can't wait.
Bo Ningen, Efterklang, Golden Fable, Diana Jones, Evening Hymns, Frightened Rabbit, Laish, Jens Lekman, Marika Hackman, Heartless Bastards, Merchandise, Money, PINS, Polica, Matthew E White, Mark Mulcahy, Caitlin Rose, Savages, Teleman, Wolf Alice and Widowspeak.
-
Still
the same organisers of course.
Anyone who that would make any difference too don't think anyone would want you at the festival!
(Quite sure that grammer is completely off but what can you do)
-
grammar?
that was supposed to be a sentence?
what if the KKK started running SXSW?yeoviled this'd this -
That
Is a terrible analogy!
Anyway I don't do internet arguments so end of comments on this for me.
-
yeoviled this'd this
-
well f-ck me sidewards
i was super happy with sigur ros and now to get the love this giant roadshow.. Saw them in boston last september and it is soooo much fun. what a bunch of headliners! WOOOOOOO!!!!
-
so you're passing judgment on who is welcome at a music festival...
... but you don't do internet arguments? Blimey.
-
The new Widowspeak album is great so far
sound like they'd be pretty sick to see live.
Christophales this'd this -
Gonna have to disagree here
Maybe outside the UK but in the UK Sigur are the bigger band by a mile. You don't see the National selling out arenas.
-
yep, one of my favourite records of the year so far
Bo Ningen are awesome as well, hope this isn't the only token heavy act though, considering they played last year. Presumably only got one of the second last on the main stage bands (Frightened Rabbit), so some more big announcements to come
-
I think it's only the guy who is a scientologist
a more relevant fact about him is that he is pretty good at putting on a music festival
-
I know I'm way late for this internet debate
and it'll most likely get ignored, but The National play pretty much exactly the same venues as Sigur Ros when they tour the UK.
-
So new bands today
Dinosaur Jr. (!)
Warpaint
Allo Darlin'
Birthday Girl
Cayucas
Dawes
East India Youth
Ethan Johns
Indians
The Leisure Society
Cass McCombs
The StavesSo the mighty Dinosaur Jr, some EOTR-type staples and a bit of filler, unless I'm mistaken. Warpaint should be pretty good, although they alarmingly high-up on the bill
-
never seen Dino Jr
should be fucking bang bang
-
they
haven't given stage times yet? I assume Warpaint would be third from top main stage myself, esp as a uk festival exclusive
-
yeah, they are above Dinosaur Jr and Frightened Rabbit which I was a bit surprised by is all
I don't actually care less, it's just an observation!
-
Meh
I guess the standout there is Dinosaur Jr, a band I *should* like by all accounts (big fan of Yo La Tengo, Pavement etc.) but have failed to get into. Maybe this'll be my watershed moment with them. The rest (that I know of) is painfully beige.
-
Not going this year,
But if they put Dino Jr on the garden stage as headliners, and get the sound right (usually great on that stage), that will be a killer show.
-
Oh
Wow, the Eels have been added.
-
So so so so so so so so so so so happy about Eels playing
squeeled and ran and woke up my housemate to tell him.
automatik this'd this -
I had no idea
SO EXCITED! They are basically a 4th headliner. I wonder which day they will play.
-
and
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings added.
I'd guess Eels either headline the garden stage, or will be second from top under Sigur.
-
Second from top I'd say
They would absolutely pack out the Garden stage. Probably similar role to Patti Smith last year.
-
yeah i don't want to have Eels clash with any of the headliners
i'm still hoping Dino Jr aren't clashing headliners either, but they will probably be. Hope it's with Belle & Seb cos i've already seen em.
-
haahahahaha EELS
why am I so happy. Phoned up my girlfriend in Manchester just to scream Eels at her. I love this band so much.
-
here
Bob Lind / Charlie Boyer and the Voyeurs / Deptford Goth / Doug Paisley / Dutch Uncles / Ed Harcourt / Eels / Eyes and No Eyes / Fossil Collective / Futur Primitif / Houndmouth / Ichi / Julianna Barwick / Parquet Courts / Rachael Dadd / Ralfe Band / Rm Hubbert / Seventeen Evergreen / Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings / Valerie June.
-
Really happy about Parquet Courts!
One of my favourite albums of the year and should be good fun live.
lordscopie this'd this -
Yeah Parquet Courts, Ed Harcourt, Dutch Uncles &
the lovely RM Hubbert are the big ones there.
-
still seems a relatively weak undercard to me
but if you include Eels it's by far the biggest/most interesting set of headliners they've had.
RM Hubbert on the Garden Stage is going to be amazing -
Chuffed Ed Harcourt is playing
Which means it'll be my first year at End of the Road. What can I expect?
automatik this'd this -
potentially me spotting you and attempting to
shake your hand/buy you a beer.
