A lot better than their last couple, former indie darlings and Pitchfork 10.0er types.

they switched up their style in a cool way, far less electronic but the songwriting is better than ever and its really well produced. the version of 'teenage millionaire' (from the first album) is killer.

Please will people listen to that damn album. It's amazing and deserves much more recognition than it's getting.

Also I Like Trains and Wave Pictures (new one was much better than Beer in the Breakers, I thought) don't seem to be getting many mentions.

RE: Meursault, while I really like the album I don't feel it was one of the best out this year.

Paranoia is a belter.

Can remember reading about a vinyl release at some point last year but they seem to have just vanished. I was convinced that they were going to be massive back in 2005.

It's a shame they've been forgotten, it took them years to get this album out (which is why it's a double) but it really is wonderful.

Either it came out too late to get the exposure needed to make the end of year lists or Six Cups of Rebel's sheer awkwardness has overshadowed Lindstrøm's significantly more on-track 2nd album this year. 33 minutes of space disco trance funk bliss.

Has the Boy album cropped up much? I really enjoyed that one and I've not seen it about as yet.

I was at the album launch in Edinburgh and while Neil's still got plenty of energy and presence (maybe even more than before, he seems to have unleashed his inner guitar-god) the songs just aren't there - they've lost of a lot of what made them unique. Also that version of Teenage Millionaire is probably my least favourite thing on the album, takes all the drama and urgency out of it and leaves a pretty-but-bland shell in it's place

Still haven't spotted their excellent 'Both Lights' album which has dominated my year.

I hope that's only because i've not been looking hard enough...

I sure haven't seen this on anyone's list. At least one track (my favorite, Better Than I've Ever Been) was available as a free download in late 2011, but he dropped the whole thing properly this year (also for free) and it's just brilliant: all glitch-hop, electro-soul-funk, with some of my favorite sampling this year, and a tendency towards the gnarliest of possible breakdowns. Havne't heard the whole album but what I have it great.

It's awesome.

really surprised about this. Whilst the album does not reflect their AMAZING live show it's still really bloody good. Plus everyone seems to be quite excited about them this year, I thought they'd crop up more often in end of year lists.

They really need to get in on itunes and other d/l sites at least cos it is wonderful and not like anything else around atm. They should be a much loved British treasure.

much more like Brother/Sister than It's all crazy... Still a mix of heavy and slow but not as folk as the last one.

I got a beautiful vinyl box set from them which comes with cd version with 2 extra tracks, 7'' (of the extra tracks), fancy lyric book, nice box with lovely art etc. <3 All for around £30.

Blues Funeral is a murky, croaky masterpiece.

Can't really think how to describe it - like Women but a bit krautrockier I guess. Super good, anyway.

Don't know if Spectrasoul are getting mentioned anywhere because I can't be arsed to read many of these listy things. However that is my favourite of the year I think.

I know it's not particularly DiS-ish, and the lyrics are a bit cringy, but I love it, and was expecting it to feature in at least some lists.

Another great release from these guys, it hasn't had much coverage.I think they are doing some of the most interesting things in electronic music at the moment.

Another stellar year for Kranky who just release wave after wave of good stuff and this was no exception. Fantastic ambient album.

Inner Tube - S/T

Mark Mcguire's collaboration with Spencer Clark from Skaters. Definitely my favourite Emeralds release from the last year.

Somewhat surprised by the Quakers album not cropping up as it was generally well recieved (though perhaps by its nature a bit patchy to appear on year end lists).

DJ Format's Statement of Intent wasn't as good as his previous albums (a lack of Abdominal) but still was the only record this year that scratched that old school hip hop itch for me.

I honestly thought this was the sort of thing that pitchfork would be all over, gleefully discordant, buoyant and full of hooks.

Easily one of the best lo-fi records I've heard this year, falls somewhere between jangly indie-rock and snotty punk rock.

Sutekh Hexen - Behind the Throne

Pitch-black drone experimentation heavy, dark and incredibly deep. It's the sort of record I'd imagine having a lot of crossover appeal.

is a really good imaginative and weird indie rock pop type affair

Can anyone believe Magnetic Fields put out an album this year? I'm amazed at how one of the most celebrated bands in indie history has released 4 albums in a row that have been utterly forgotten a week after release. All my friends love Magnetic Fields but they are still singing songs from 69 love songs. Has Stephen Merrit just been unable to pull out of the shadow of that amazing triple album?

Seems like the kind of thing everyone likes and it got decent reviews when it came out and there was a fair amount of hype but now everyone has forgotten about it? weird.

No love for Titus Andronicus in this thread? Not seen it popping up much in any lists. I don't think it's quite as good as the first 2 albums but still thought it was a pretty strong release. Nice change of direction. Don't think it's necessarily AOTY material but I was surprised not to see it in m/any Top 50s.

Can't believe this hasn't been mentioned anywhere. Such a good album and possibly my favorite of the year, strange omission.

and it's a good deal less expansive and varied. That and the fact that some of the tracks are way too long. I still like it, but it has nothing on Triptych.

Other than that Aluk Todolo's Occult Rock which is the album Liturgy wish they could make. Definite crossover appeal.

Most of the other stuff I've loved has probably been a bit obscure... Plekzationz, Techno Primitvism, KTL V...

On a lesser note, I know it's been in most lists, but I also think Flying Lotus didn't get the recognition it deserved, it's been really low down most of the time. Easily a top three for me, but you need to live with it for a while
