Not picking a fight, but they seem real enough to me - long back catalogue etc. Only the last couple of albums where they've transitioned from more straight up bluesy stuff like on Thickfreakness to more of a rock n roll sound.

Boring.

A lot of their earlier stuff is, very boring, formulaic, and a bit fake. Some of their more recent tunes have been better now they've widened their scope and got a production budget.

I tend to not really like the people who like them, as they try to pass off a 'I'm well into blues, me' vibe the same way people do with 'I like folk music, you know, like Mumford & Sons?' And it's usually exactly the same people.

They've been playing for ages with little to no major success, just making music they enjoy.

Which have some great tunes. Nothing wrong with great tunes. And proper haircuts. Don't really get the hate. Seems a bit 'pitchforky' to me.

Ive seen them 7 times over the years, as a two piece up until around rubber factory, they were worth every penny of the admission fee, electric exciting raw, a top live band.
More power to them for evolving...its just sad theyve evolved into a dull turgid 5 piece turd....they certainly never used to be fake. if i could see them again at the manchester academy 3 in 2003/4 again i wouldnt hesitate

...authenticity and trying to score indie points. I'm genuinely not trying to be patronising or condescending but I've noticed that in the last few years I care less and less about the perception of bands and how popular they are or aren't. I just listen to what I like.

Doesn't mean I don't get pissed off with the fans of certain bands and whatnot and a bit dismayed when a band changes their sound to be far more pop-centric but life's too short to get so annoyed.

I've always been a bit wary of fanboys though so if I met someone who told me The Black Keys were their favourite band or in their opinion the best band in the world I'd probably think them a bit silly but The Black Keys are a good band.

Whatever.

i got mine, from Abbey Road, its pretty brilliant

really predictable, boring garage rock dressed up with a nice production. Unfortunately this is the kind of stuff that get's acclaimed nowadays.

'authentic' in regard to music needs a serious beating with something heavy and wooden.

Black Keys - meh.

The Black Keys are dull. I unfortunately saw them live earlier in the year. The only surprise was when they played the song that was the title song to the TV show "Hung". It's a shit song anyway. Bad gig. Crap band.

Along with other riffy music (Joe Bonamassa, Tame Impala, Jeff Buckley). Fits the bill pretty well.

from the jump: guitar/drums, black keys/white stripes. But after 60 years of rock & roll, authenticity is out the window anyway. Well, maybe not when the artist tries to be quirky - radiohead, bjork, sigur ros - and that's just not fun to listen to after awhile. But they're not the worst by far.

that's all bullshit anyway. but my god they are tedious. boring band for boring people.

They made some music that got popular and they expanded their band. That is all that really happened. If you lost interest fair enough but not worth your while discussing your hatred for any kind of band. In fairness proper emotions.

Agreed the latest album courts mass popularity...although it's still a wtf-how'd-this-happen? I'd have guessed they became a local blues bar band before betting they'd become mega. But there you go, that's why I'm not an A&R guy.

Fake - he's yet to prove this - I mean I know that there's 2 of them and then suddenly live, shit, there's 5 of them, but they record everything as a two piece and they're musically talented.

Shite - obviously that's an opinion and not fact, because factually they are at least quite good musicians!

What untrue could have said is "Black Keys aren't really my cup of tea and really are a bit too derivative of blues and music from the 1970s, like T-Rex."

The Black Keys, on topic. Great band, solid library of albums now and El Camino is a confident, tune filled step towards popularity. They are not 'fake', fuck off this this authenticity crap, there's nothing contrived or fake about it. Many of these comments are pernicious for the sake of just being scathingly negative.

I suppose they're authentic enough, they're travelling the world bringing their types of music to people in a way that they can enjoy it. The problem with trying to be too authentic is that it just comes off as pastiche.
