Post your favourite single track of 2012 and a youtube link
Just one per post ... per person ideally
After months and months of hearing this it still hits the spot every time
and I'm massively looking forward to their debut LP in March
Jessie Ware - Running (Disclosure mix)

Hoping this thread will throw up some gems I may have missed over the year

Grimes - Genesis
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FH-q0I1fJY
Always feel completely uplifted when I hear this.
I do like it but
it does seem like a revamped Enya. Enya 2.0
Mladic
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXdF9uhVrI0
< We Drift Like Worried Fire
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP6-wlhviKw
Japandroids - The House That Heaven Built
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRVCtbfuDqw
wine and roses is better
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzQs550NLcc
they all sound the same
i.e. life-affirming and wonderous
incredibly boring*
so this is what japandroids sound like, then?
lol
i like house that heaven built,
but about 5 of the 8 songs on post-nothing are better than it
No, it's definitely the best
House That Heaven Built > Younger Us > Wine and Roses > Fire's Highway > Evil's Sway > Love of Ivy > Adrenaline Nightshift > Continuous Thunder
yeah but that;s celebration rock
different album
The Haxan Cloak - The Men Parted The Sea To Devour The Water
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwwnNlOZmRU
Madteo - We Do... (DJ Sotofett's NYC Dub Mix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIbCaINe-No
probably.
you mean released this year?
yeah
I guess Video Games was 2011 although the album wasn't until 2012...
... so Continuous Thunder by Japandroids.
(Can't Youtube at work).
Neither can I
But you can copy the link from a google search, like this:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AztLPSGcow
(hope this works)
Audacity - Punk Confusion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4CPqgKyKIs
Portico Quartet - Steepless (fr. Cornelius)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLeVs7FdAiA
That was really fucking hard.
Really?
I thought that was the weakest thing on there. Can't stand the vocals. Coy carp that was on the bonus disc would be my pick.
Ah, music.
I thought it was far and away the best thing on the album to the point where the rest suffered as a result.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNpPAir49n4
This reminds me a lot of Caroline Lufkin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5spChEdr1q8
I like it.
Future Of The Left - Notes On Achieving Orbit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXrMXnsHKeY
(I know the demo version went online two years ago but it still counts)
one about the riots instead plz
I HOPE THAT CHUMBAWUMBA WILL UNDERSTAND
Robocop 4: Fuck Off Robocop for me.
And if you disagree I am a giant bat and your opinion a cave into which I will shit golden effigies of your face.

David Tattersall - The Sunshine Hotel
http://soundcloud.com/wiaiwya/david-tattersall-the-sunshine
It's not on YouTube but here's the SoundCloud link. This track blew me away when I first heard it on Riley, still my favourite of the year though thumbs up for Godspeed & Japandroids too.
This release completely passed me by
I'm going to need to take a look at my life's priorities when a Wave Pictures related release passes me by. Off to purchase it now.
David Tattersall really is a relentlessly productive individual with a remarkably high quality control. I heard about a Jason Molina covers album in the pipeline which would be excellent (as was the Springsteen covers album released a couple of years ago).
Now Jimmy Saville has been demoted in the public's affections creating a vacancy in the national treasure department, there is definitely a case for promoting David. THE CAMPAIGN STARTS HERE. Who's with me?
Hooray for Marc Riley
It's vinyl only (with an mp3 link) but I've been spellbound ever since I first heard that single.
Chvrches - The Mother We Share
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxxUEzOvU-Y
Cloud Nothings - Wasted Days
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIitQNXVgb8
Teeters on the brink of falling apart and being over-blown, but just holds it together to be my favourite track of 2012.
You'll wait years to hear a riff like this one.
fall in is better
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok2AGpJFpwA
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe, maybe not
not listened to the album in months!
prefer Stay Useless personally
but at least 4 fantastic tracks
*Our Plans
Twin Shadow - Five Seconds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiC9XNQSxFQ
Twin Shadow - Run My Heart
Just pips 5 seconds for me. http://vimeo.com/45115458
Hot Chip - Flutes
The best thing they've ever done (off probably their best album to date too). Utterly hypnotic, it builds and builds and then drops away so beautifully and so cleanly at the five minute mark. I've listened to this song so much more than any others this year, it's embarrassing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyOdS9N-WXk
(I've including an audio link rather than the headache-inducing spinning video)
Let Me Be Him
is one of my favourites by them
I'm gonna go ahead and say it
That album is solid gold from start to finish
Deptford Goth - People Get Still
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8NT-6sCd3o
Fatima Al Qadiri - Hydra
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlHa6-ORPcw
relentlessly dystopian and chilling synth-heavy grime for the apocolypse
not sure on favourite so going with most played, love the break at 2:09
geographer - blinders
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk1JywThdxI
I fucking hate it when people can't follow instructions
So here are FIVE with no links:
Gauze - Deftones
Good Kid - Kendrick Lamar
Halfgate - Grizzly Bear
Evil's Sway - Japandroids
And I can't think of a 5th one to put so I'm a liar as well as a cunt.
No Sentiment - Cloud Nothings (if that was this year)
Death Grips - Hacker
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74NA48f66kk
prefer i've seen footage

Kendrick Lamar - The Art Of Peer Pressure
Mac Demarco - Baby's Wearin' Blue Jeans
Echo Lake - Even The Blind
Guided By Voices - Waves
Purity Ring - Fineshrine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xqw4wo8vdY8
I reckon Belispeak may have the most plays of anything this year for me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVcOwVD4V30
Crawlersout for me
liars - no1 against the rush
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggR6RuBh8I0
Burial - Ashtray Wasp
http://youtu.be/555XMqqDYtU
why is it I like track 2 "Loner" more than this and noone else does?
Ashtray Wasp has a lot more going on
more memorable female vocals and a beat higher in the mix
The whole EP is incredible
Loner is excellent and the last minuite of Kindred is stunning. Ashtry Wasp just has everything though.
Ashtray wasp 98/100
Loner 97/100
Kindred 92/100
School of Seven Bells - Scavenger
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMh5oT1OaBs
Incredibly beautiful song
Scott Walker - Epizootics!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ih7KzKLLWA
Haunted jacuzzis churn
Seriously, that horn part that first comes in about 2 minutes 30 has to be the most amazing piece of music I've heard this year. The sound of it is incredible.
Frank Ocean, Pyramids.
Is the right answer. But not the video edit.
first half can fuck off
genuinely terrible.
Second half is the best piece of music i've heard from this year, yeah.
Hm. Probably Icona Pop - I Love It
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxxajLWwzqY
you seen this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5vYV7DjeYk
They really need to come to the UK, huh?
live from the hallowed turf where Zlatan put 4 past England
personally I can't stand them but I can see the appeal
Exitmusic - The Modern Age
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVC1LP5AuVk
Kwes - Lygoh
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM4Ms0A6BGo
Internet Forever — Break Bones

Tindersticks - Show Me Everything
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bx-KWrVP70
Frozen for me

this was my 2nd choice
Show me Everything, I mean
Frozen is mighty fine too
Grizzly Bear - Yet Again
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuG9i5cwGW0
or The Men - Open Your Heart
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en1lfsSaOqw
i've only listened to this album once
need to listen to it again. immaculada was great and i quite like leave home.
yeah you should
it's great!
it's gotta be Candy or Please Don't Go Away for me
possibly my album of the year though
all of the frank ocean album
beauty and a beat
to the WO-OR-OR-OR-OR-OR-OR-ORO-O-O-OO-O-O-ORLD
I really really like Foals new single Inhaler
http://youtu.be/qJ_PMvjmC6M
EL-P - The Full Retard
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZptOs8Gu9k
(also best video)
this is awesome
A lot of mine have been mentioend already
BUT I adore this Four Tet track, 'Lion':
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdTNcc0NZ-g
Jamie XX remix of this
is pretty special
The Chariot - First
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oHAFqmmrik
Makes me feel like a king when the spaghetti western bit kicks in.
Luke Abbott - Modern Driveway
By some distance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGqdgp0WNsE
Wild Nothing - Paradise
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm636VSQXUU
played so so so so so so so may times and can't get sick of it
nah
Shadow is a far superior song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzxATVcs31I&feature=share&list=ALYL4kY05133r-Kqe_gNehgdzcAi2H6TFv
Title track wins it for me
they're both lovely
but I find Paradise lovelier
I mean the answer is probably Hood, yeah
Certainly the bed-wetting anthem of the year. I'd love to say Books by Tall Ships but the original version was released two years ago so not technically a 2012 tip. So anyway yeah COP A LOAD OF THIS INSTEAD (Dan Deacon)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IADHZcdc0Ik
Lower Dens - Brains
www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyxzjF8IjE8
Spiritualized - So Long You Pretty Thing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VesyhH8zams
Jai Paul - Jasmine
http://soundcloud.com/jaipaul/jai-paul-jasmine
The Pre-New - Cathedral City Comedown
Pub rock has glorious existential meltdown; England circa 2012 is thrown forcibly to and at the canvas
http://m.soundcloud.com/#/theprenew/ccc
glad to see someone
finally mentioning the Pre-New at some point on these boards!
although I'd probably go with Night on Leather Mountain or Pre-New Anthem
There are not enough songs about cheese
Les Sins- Fetch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlkjFHk_9ms
Neneh Cherry and The Thing - Dream Baby Dream
http://soundcloud.com/smalltownsupersound/neneh-cherry-the-thing-dream/s-TtYIX
Also features my favourite comment of the year at 5'23".
*Too Tough To Die
Main Attraktionz ft DaVinci - Do It For The Bay
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnjXwqB3mG8
Best beat of the year hands down. Really uplifting hometown anthem. Great chorus hook. The DaVinci verse is a thing of beauty.
All I do is chase bank JP Morgan, get a pack run it back like Frank Gore maaaaaayn
Hip hop should make you smile ear to ear. This whole track does that.
that beat is pretty fuckin glorious
thanks a lot for this :)
No.1 still Melody's Echo Chamber for me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v29I0srhPwg
closely followed by
Angel Haze - Werkin Girls
Animal Collective - Applesauce
Rhye - Open
Errors - Holus Bolus
I still get all tingly when listening to it and live it's something else.
Also 'Pleasure Palaces'
Probably their best song
Pinback - Proceed To Memory
great song, great album, great band
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV7PmyLaBhs
Spiritualized - Hey Jane
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aplrUI-NkYA
look at that fat never-been
music's ultimate talentless poseur.
OO I'VE DONE DRUGS ME!
Four Tet - Jupiters
apart from ones already said
i quite like numb, but i still feel it by Title Fight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIbndxFYsSU
Haukivesi Spirit by Ukonnen's pretty good too.
it;s not on youtube tho
Clyde Carson - Slow Down
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJdqw-JzW08
My fav slap of 12 anyway. A two-note tuba stab and an escalating synth line is about all I need in life. The hook is a major earworm as well.
Boomgates - Whispering Or Singing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLkDj9jfkSk
Chairlift - I Belong in Your Arms
Generally I find this bands output a bit rubbish, but this is a great example of what makes a track of the year for me, a band whose output never grabs you, just getting it all totally right.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_aTOyFRwJ0
Pulled Apart By Horses - Wolf Hand
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0vYLlqwuuc
enjoy
Under the Westway
It's this though, isn't it?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA4iX5D9Z64
Kilowatts - The World In A Nutshell
http://soundcloud.com/kilowatts/09-kilowatts-the-world-in-a
Mindblowing piece of Electronic music.
Kendrick Lamar - The Art of Peer Pressure
The atmosphere, detail and ambition in this song floors me. plus it reminds me of the film Drive with the getaway narrative, it's gorgeous
How To Dress Well - Set It Right
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgFGJ7Yu4lM
you can end the thread now.
Fair shout for best track on Total Loss but...
I prefer Cold Nites
Solange - Losing You
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy9W_mrY_Vk
royal headache - girls
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFFocv8IaDg
probably listened to it about 20 times a day when i first heard it
Grimes - Vowels = Space & Time
perfect
Mount Eerie - The Place I Live
http://soundcloud.com/fluid-radio/mount-eerie-the-place-i-live
I could also name Through the Trees or Over Dark Water from that album
I prefer Clear Moon or Lone Bell
Great album.
Sharon van Etten - 'Serpents'
Still not sick of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znApO8xOszo
Gravenhurst - Circadian
Still haven't listened to that album
meant to play it for months! Doing it today.
Yeti Lane - Warning Sensations
Straight album track:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyJfw3sqOPA
Superb remix:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xamSpJCGfnI
Major Lazer ft. Amber Coffman - Get Free
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OI3shBXlqsw
still pure <3
does someone want to compile this thread as a playlist?
Shift Key - 'Let you Down'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdrqogUE2XA
Title Fight - Frown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9YccKgmTE8
young dro - check me out

LE1F - Wut
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nrnq4SZ0luc
Soap&Skin - Wonder
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4rmGFdMkRI
Surely this has to be in there..
http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwrel&v=-ipN220W-04#
Leonard Cohen - Going Home
He was amazing live this year, an inspiration.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPNkUZCsgOo
omg easily this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pMnTh4Xb8A
Mystikal on his James Brown.
Schoolboy Q - THere He go
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnnYiW5dnhQ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APQRafRDh2Q
Rustie - After Light (feat. AlunaGeorge)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaMDljanpyM
Hated it with vocals at first but it's really grown on me.
Tall Ships - T=0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JYt3eYDQY0
Black to Comm - Mirror
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNpW6u-_nng
I want to drown in this, in the whole record - so sorely overlooked. it is music to immerse yourself in during an hour or so of biblical rain.
burial - rough sleeper...?
Drop Out Venus - Elastic Teen Rent
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Facftbyf9Vw
George Fitzgerald - Unilateral
http://youtu.be/GFr3g8Nr7qs
there'll be a few of these.
Trevino - Chip
http://youtu.be/nq9Ev_oA9kI
He's put out a lot of REALLY good stuff this year, but this is my favourite.
Bobby Champs - Lucid
His first EP, brilliant release, absolutely brilliant, but this is my favourite from that.
http://youtu.be/mMX3Inb85yA
Cut Hands - Black Mamba
http://youtu.be/GglYtHJhBhY
NOT the best thing to have in a playlist of gentle nu-disco and ting when you're brutally hungover, but otherwise exemplary noisey bidness.
Breach & Midland - 101
http://youtu.be/r9uuHXujk0Q
these two, pariah, blawan, randomer, truss, nautiluss, gingy & bordello, locked groove and audionite (amongst others) have put out fantastically askew and often rough tech sounds this year, but i'm off out and none of you really want me to bang up another 15+ links.
Duke Dumont - Underground Persistence
from Turbo Record's really rather good 'New Jack Techno' compilation
http://youtu.be/r3S12vgoV4k
Honest guv, this is the last one.
