I thought that was the weakest thing on there. Can't stand the vocals. Coy carp that was on the bonus disc would be my pick.
-
David Tattersall - The Sunshine Hotel
http://soundcloud.com/wiaiwya/david-tattersall-the-sunshine
It's not on YouTube but here's the SoundCloud link. This track blew me away when I first heard it on Riley, still my favourite of the year though thumbs up for Godspeed & Japandroids too.

Teeters on the brink of falling apart and being over-blown, but just holds it together to be my favourite track of 2012.

Ah, music.
I thought it was far and away the best thing on the album to the point where the rest suffered as a result.

Hot Chip - Flutes
The best thing they've ever done (off probably their best album to date too). Utterly hypnotic, it builds and builds and then drops away so beautifully and so cleanly at the five minute mark. I've listened to this song so much more than any others this year, it's embarrassing.

This release completely passed me by
I'm going to need to take a look at my life's priorities when a Wave Pictures related release passes me by. Off to purchase it now.
David Tattersall really is a relentlessly productive individual with a remarkably high quality control. I heard about a Jason Molina covers album in the pipeline which would be excellent (as was the Springsteen covers album released a couple of years ago).
Now Jimmy Saville has been demoted in the public's affections creating a vacancy in the national treasure department, there is definitely a case for promoting David. THE CAMPAIGN STARTS HERE. Who's with me?

I mean the answer is probably Hood, yeah
Certainly the bed-wetting anthem of the year. I'd love to say Books by Tall Ships but the original version was released two years ago so not technically a 2012 tip. So anyway yeah COP A LOAD OF THIS INSTEAD (Dan Deacon)
-
Ashtray Wasp has a lot more going on
more memorable female vocals and a beat higher in the mix
-
it's gotta be Candy or Please Don't Go Away for me
possibly my album of the year though
-
orangejuice and Valentinaa this'd this
-
The whole EP is incredible
Loner is excellent and the last minuite of Kindred is stunning. Ashtry Wasp just has everything though.
Ashtray wasp 98/100
Loner 97/100
Kindred 92/100 -
they're both lovely
but I find Paradise lovelier
-
I'm gonna go ahead and say it
That album is solid gold from start to finish
-
The Pre-New - Cathedral City Comedown
Pub rock has glorious existential meltdown; England circa 2012 is thrown forcibly to and at the canvas
-
glad to see someone
finally mentioning the Pre-New at some point on these boards!
although I'd probably go with Night on Leather Mountain or Pre-New Anthem
-
Neneh Cherry and The Thing - Dream Baby Dream
http://soundcloud.com/smalltownsupersound/neneh-cherry-the-thing-dream/s-TtYIX
Also features my favourite comment of the year at 5'23".
-
Main Attraktionz ft DaVinci - Do It For The Bay
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnjXwqB3mG8
Best beat of the year hands down. Really uplifting hometown anthem. Great chorus hook. The DaVinci verse is a thing of beauty.

All I do is chase bank JP Morgan, get a pack run it back like Frank Gore maaaaaayn
Hip hop should make you smile ear to ear. This whole track does that.
-
No.1 still Melody's Echo Chamber for me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v29I0srhPwg
closely followed by
Angel Haze - Werkin Girls
Animal Collective - Applesauce
Rhye - Open -
Errors - Holus Bolus
I still get all tingly when listening to it and live it's something else.
Icarus-Smicarus this'd this -
I do like it but
it does seem like a revamped Enya. Enya 2.0
-
Pinback - Proceed To Memory
great song, great album, great band
-
Also 'Pleasure Palaces'
Probably their best song
Lililololaure this'd this -
i like house that heaven built,
but about 5 of the 8 songs on post-nothing are better than it
-
first half can fuck off
genuinely terrible.
Second half is the best piece of music i've heard from this year, yeah.
-
apart from ones already said
i quite like numb, but i still feel it by Title Fight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIbndxFYsSU
Haukivesi Spirit by Ukonnen's pretty good too.
-
No, it's definitely the best
House That Heaven Built > Younger Us > Wine and Roses > Fire's Highway > Evil's Sway > Love of Ivy > Adrenaline Nightshift > Continuous Thunder
-
yeah but that;s celebration rock
different album
-
Clyde Carson - Slow Down
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJdqw-JzW08
My fav slap of 12 anyway. A two-note tuba stab and an escalating synth line is about all I need in life. The hook is a major earworm as well.
-
Haunted jacuzzis churn
Seriously, that horn part that first comes in about 2 minutes 30 has to be the most amazing piece of music I've heard this year. The sound of it is incredible.
Oissin_ this'd this -
Chairlift - I Belong in Your Arms
Generally I find this bands output a bit rubbish, but this is a great example of what makes a track of the year for me, a band whose output never grabs you, just getting it all totally right.
-
Kilowatts - The World In A Nutshell
http://soundcloud.com/kilowatts/09-kilowatts-the-world-in-a
Mindblowing piece of Electronic music.
-
Kendrick Lamar - The Art of Peer Pressure
The atmosphere, detail and ambition in this song floors me. plus it reminds me of the film Drive with the getaway narrative, it's gorgeous
-
How To Dress Well - Set It Right

Fair shout for best track on Total Loss but...
I prefer Cold Nites
-
Mount Eerie - The Place I Live
http://soundcloud.com/fluid-radio/mount-eerie-the-place-i-live
I could also name Through the Trees or Over Dark Water from that album
-
Sharon van Etten - 'Serpents'
Still not sick of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znApO8xOszo
-
I prefer Clear Moon or Lone Bell
Great album.
-
Still haven't listened to that album
meant to play it for months! Doing it today.

Black to Comm - Mirror
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNpW6u-_nng
I want to drown in this, in the whole record - so sorely overlooked. it is music to immerse yourself in during an hour or so of biblical rain.
-
George Fitzgerald - Unilateral
there'll be a few of these.
-
Trevino - Chip
He's put out a lot of REALLY good stuff this year, but this is my favourite.
-
Bobby Champs - Lucid
His first EP, brilliant release, absolutely brilliant, but this is my favourite from that.
-
Cut Hands - Black Mamba
NOT the best thing to have in a playlist of gentle nu-disco and ting when you're brutally hungover, but otherwise exemplary noisey bidness.
-
Breach & Midland - 101
these two, pariah, blawan, randomer, truss, nautiluss, gingy & bordello, locked groove and audionite (amongst others) have put out fantastically askew and often rough tech sounds this year, but i'm off out and none of you really want me to bang up another 15+ links.
-
Duke Dumont - Underground Persistence
from Turbo Record's really rather good 'New Jack Techno' compilation
Honest guv, this is the last one.
