So I just heard Joey Bada$$...
WOW. More of this please, less that modern aggro hip hop stuff.

Survival Tactics is the best thing he's done so far by a mile
Liked the mixtape for a week or so but haven't gone back to it since
1999 is in my fave albums of 2012..
But then, I'm a sucker for those vibesss.

Me to, really excited to hear hip hop not going down the Odd Future style
I've picked up his mixtape and the Pro Era one, it's not just him that is talented, they all are.
Just started listening to 1999 the other night
absolutely genius.
also this, if you've not seen it
http://pitchfork.com/news/47762-listen-to-joey-bada-new-mixtape-rejex/
It really is!
What am I downloading first then?
1999?
Yup.
There is a Pro Era whole crew one on their website.
Heard a couple good ones tracks from:
Kirk Knight, CJ, T'Nah Apex, The Underachievers and Angel Haze
Action Bronson should be up your street
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyVu9Zxzr_0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-m5n8_VS_Ho
and the new single

He is ok I guess, kinda unmemorable.
We'll see what he can do with original production.
Are you referring to production only when you say you want more like this? Cos how is he any less aggro than 'modern' stuff?
I was under the impression the production was done by original artists?
This is all just
cherry picked stuff from the 90s.
Yeah, mostly old beats on 1999
I basically agree with Shippers here. I like Joey B, he's a talented dude, but think he should be pushing that NY sound forward rather than retreating to well trodden ground & repackaging it for a new audience.
Hopefully we'll see him do that on his album.
To be honest I like him because he ISN'T pushing that new NY sound.
It's driving me away from modern hip hop.
Idk man
I'm not sure what you think the current NY scene is. This year you got Action Bronson up there, Roc Marciano, Das Racist, Mr Muthafuckin eXquire, El-P, Azealia Banks, Nas's comeback, Flatbush Zombies, Angel Haze etc.
I wouldn't say any of that stuff was aggro., or particularly off putting for fans of older NY hip hop.
You mention the 'Odd Future' style, but there's actually not many other rappers heading down that horrorcore direction, and Odd Future members seem to be moving away from it.
In fact you might even find yourself liking the new Earl Sweatshirt song, he's said how much he regrets rapping about rape & murder, and moved on:

Angel Haze - New York
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hKP5ljDar8
NY doesn't have A sound anymore though?
What sound are you even referring to?? It feels like you're boiling down a whole genre to something that doesn't even exist or is just a small slice of the pie.
Even if Joey stays within the boombap late 90s thing he can find producers that do that well and have a modern spin on it. Harry Fraud and The Alchemist are a couple obvious producers he can go after.
I think you should check out these NY artists:
KA - Grief Pedigree http://youtu.be/vKlCUHjU7p4
Roc Marciano - Reloaded http://youtu.be/4P5eN63eREA
AG - Everythings Berri http://youtu.be/eZzxsFUg9Qs
I think you're right, alot of newer hip hop I've heard has followed a certain type of production
with rolling fast hi hats that isn't really all that far away from grime, but it isn't so it's not great.
The backing track to this basically what I'm thinking of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG1yX7NgMcI
That's horrible but not cos of the production ;)
That sound is more of a south thing even though it has bled over into other codes. There's so much out there that doesn't follow that formula though if its not your thing. Just gotta look.
I do think you're missing out on a lot of quality stuff though, just like any genre/subgenre/sound there is going to be good and bad within it. Here's a couple you may like with that sound:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypl-fNzadc4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXfBZc47dTI
Oh god, yeah everything is terrible there.
Only example I could found. OK, I get you. Well from the looks of the links you guys have been posting, hope has been restored.
I'm sure we can all agree, Cannibal Ox's second album is pretty exciting news right?
Listening to those links the only one I like is the Lamar one.
Even then that's one of the worse tracks on the album.
However, this is my favourite KL song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ep0hay4Qw54
Bitch Dont Kill My Vibe is in the running
for my fav song on that album. It really stuck its hooks in me.
do you like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ed4GJX8nf_g
Heres a mix I made for 2011 stuff that you would like:
