On a different topic, where's that nice bloke who did DiS-ers album
of the year? Last year he asked everyone for their top 5 and then did a top 50. That was excellent work.
-
He's offered to do it again this year.
Let's wait till December though eh

The Lost Rivers isn't their debut Dom
My Beatific Vision is (7 tracks 35 mins is too long for an EP I reckon).
It's definitely one om my albums of the year tho'.
Thanks again for putting the gig on at The Chameleon on Saturday. It was an absolute blinder. Eventually got away about 2.45am after loading up all the gear.

oh yeah forgot that was a debut

-
A year late
ahoy
-
Yeah I realise that of course
but if Ex-Military is counted as the debut then Money Store isn't a debut THIS year is it?
-
Django Django
I think is the only 2012 debut I've liked enough to listen to more than once, so far. I don't know what's happened to me. I need to listen to some of the ones from this thread then I guess.
-

the worst album cover design in the history of the free world

Ukkonen
PAWS
Keaton Henson
Scott and Charlene's Wedding
and loads more. Good thread found some interesting stuff here -
Al Doum & The Faryds - Self titled LP is my favourite debut
Think it came out right at the end of last year, but was definitely not available in the UK until 2012, so it gets in. (They had another one out this year, which absolutely rules as well).
Also really liked:
Laurel Halo - 'Quarantine' (if Hour Logic doesn't count)
Kendrick Lamar - 'Good Kid M.A.A.D City' (if Section 80 doesn't count)
Goat - 'World Music'
Holly Herndon - 'Movement'Haven't heard the Melody's Echo Chamber LP yet, but reckon I'll be into that as well
-
We'll agree to disagree on MBV/S&L
as MBV is definitely regarded as an EP (even though I get what you're saying).
Thanks for everything Saturday. Everything worked out in the end and those last 2 sets from 93MMFTS & The Lost Rivers were nothing short of incredible!
-
Boy Friend
Foreign Fields
-
Echo Lake.
Echo Lake, Echo Lake, Echo Lake, Echo Lake, Echo Lake, Echo Lake, Echo Lake, Echo Lake, Echo Lake, Echo Lake, Echo Lake :-)
Oh, and the FOE album is bloody great too. And whether or not we count it (see above) The Lost Rivers album is fantastic!
-
I second Holly Herndon
Certainly the most promising debut, can't wait to what she comes up with next
-
This is the correct answer
stonking album
-
Talabot & TOY - definitely one of those
-
Jessie Ware was REALLY disappointing (some good remixes though)
I'm disappointed in myself that I like most of the Kindness record
-
Did not realise
it was his debut - very good album
-
I was going to mention
Trust but you did it!
-
are you trolling?
It was a great year musically - all these first albums are great quality. Bet a few of the bands mention on here will be a staple on the music scene for years.
-
Sin & Lostness IS their debut album
My Beatific Vision was their first EP.
FACT!
-
I forgot
Radar Men From The Moon - Echo Forever
-
Really don't get this

that Teen Suicide record is ace
I can't help but feel like they're being overlooked somewhat.
-
Think he was in a band beforehand but their name escapes me.
He released an EP in 2011 but this was his first full-length under that moniker, as far as I'm aware.
-
Think that's an EP, isn't it? Their full-length debut is out in January/Feb
I enjoyed this release an awful lot though, can't wait for the LP!
-
Totally agree. Near perfect, for what it is.
I considered suggesting it for DiS’s Lost 12 of 2012 series, but am already down to write two. It’s a nice little secret to hold onto, regardless.
-
Yeah, it came out on some tiny label last November
But was rereleased on Paper Bag Records shortly after Polaris. Not sure if they’re planning to visit the UK, but their live show is quite something.

if you've not heard Stumbleine yet, that dreamy debut lp just got a 9/10
and we've embedded a stream http://drownedinsound.com/releases/17361/reviews/4145785?recommended-records
