Which band(s) could realistically headline *ALL* the major UK festivals: Glastonbury, Reading, V, Download, Isle of Wight, T in the Park, Bestival?
I think the only answer is The Prodigy.
We were discussing this in the pub last night. Are there any other bands who are big enough and have enough of a cross-genre appeal that they could realistically headline *any* of the major festivals in 2013?
Foo Fighters was another potential, but I can't quite see them headlining Glastonbury for some reason.
The Prodigy are the only band who could equally please the metal kids at Download, the rockers at Reading, the dads at Isle of Wight, the pop fans at V/T, the students at Bestival and the middle managers at Glastonbury. I don't think there's anyone else who could do it.
Hmmm, intersting...
- Relevant artist taggings:
- None
-
Daft Punk
could do it
-
..
Rage against the machine
-
not to headline glastonbury
not big enough
-
or would they struggle with Download?
I'm not sure they would you know
-
I was going to add a could *and* would caveat.
As in, the Stones probably cold do it, but would they do it? I doubt it.

On balance you may be right
Metallers love a crossover but maybe that's too far.
-
obviously, technically, no one could play them all due to exclusivity agreements
any one of those though, if they paid enough, could have the stones i think
-
Dizzee Rascal
in time maybe if he does another raw album or two, best I can come up with since you mentioned Prodigy already.
-
I don't mean play all the festivals in a single year.
I take your point that the Stones are likely to do any gig that pays them enough money, but I can't really see them being invited to play, or accepting to play, Download or Bestival. I think in reality they'd probably only ever do Glastonbury (or Isle of Wight at a push for the 60s connection).
-
Can't think of any
Prodigy is a very good call.

Prodigy would never headline Glasto
Other Stage headliners through and through, my friend.

I know enough metallers who love Muse
to think they could pull it off
-
Def
Muse, Prodigy, Foo Fighters, RHCP.
-
They did in 1997 I think
Though they've come a long way down in popularity since then
-
I'd
disagree with Foo Fighters not being able to play Glastonbury. They can headline V, they can do Glasto.
Red Hot Chilli Peppers comes to mind.
Pearl Jam.
-
The Cure
would they go down well at Download?
-
Metallica at V?
Having a laugh mate.
-
i
think they'd have issues at v, never mind download
-
.
I'm not sure they'd go down that fit with the Bestival thing.
-
and the headliners are bigger now than they were then
although I reckon Prodge could probably just about pull off a Pyramid headline slot
-
Pendulum
you cunts
-
The Peppermint Apes
crossover appeal

disagree
also disagree that prodigy would be anywhere near the top of the bill for pretty much any festival in this day and age
mug_mug_mug and dis-charge this'd this -
think they would, easily
if the cure can, why not?
-
They did the Friday in '97 (Radiohead were Saturday's ones).
They didn't come across well: sound issues.
-
they'd pull it off in the sense that people would probably have a good time
which is obviously important, but in terms of status, nah way
-

White Stripes could conceivably do it
easily.
The only one that may be a bit sticky would be Download, but it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility - I go to that festival and like The Stripes, and I think a lot (not all, of course) of other attendees would feel the same.
-
Black Sabbath could easily
metallers and hipsters like em, V and maybe Glasto would be the only ones that would be a little weird IMO

The answer to most tough questions is Fucking Slayer

Nah
Everyone loves The Cure.
-
Depeche Mode
probably not but close
-
Oh wait
I didn't see Download in that list.
-
Muse at Bestival?
hmm. But yeah, them, and maybe The Prodigy?

oh I thought you meant Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath are too lumbering for the Glastonberry crowd yes
-
its 2012
The prodigy glasto not a chance not big enough. They could headline beautiful that's about it. The times are a changing
-
I mean, I'm sure loads of people who go to Download like 'em, but there's no way they'd fit in.
-
Prodigy headlined Download this year...
No chance in the hell the Stones would be booked to headline Download.
-
AC/DC
No problem.

Dingus Khan
easily
-
Beastie Boys
Well... y'know, they could have.
Lambchops and Gashwrecker this'd this -
If they played the My Iron Lung EP
and plenty of the heavier tracks from The Bends / OKC they'd be alright, and tracks like Myxomatosis and Bodysnatchers.
Of course they'd never do this.
-
correct
They wouldn't, but they could
-
Prince?
who cares.
-
When they played 94 Glastonbury
they were pretty high up the bill. Or one of those years. But I know it's changed a lot since, but they would be big enough to do it I think.
-
yep
or . . . Alice Cooper?
-
Neither. Absolutely no way AC/DC or Alice Cooper
would headline V or Bestival... and Glastonbury never have 'hard rock' headliners.
-
um
Prodigy headlined download last year, and IOW several years in a row.
They could headline one of the bigger festivals if this new album is as big a hot as the other ones
-
I'm going to go for...
...The KLF.
