Songs for the Deaf is one of my favourite albums ever, but I've not really felt anything since. I'll definitely be checking this out though.
Life's beautiful coincidences.
Not a huge fan of QOTSA beyond that album. This still makes me excited.
Fuck me I've got a massive boner for this already. It can't be as good as SFTDeaf. Can... it...?
always good to see DISer's getting a big break
The reason the records since haven't been as good is not down to the drumming.
you're right of course, them crooked vultures were pretty boring.
but c'mon, don't bring me down. I'm optimistic about this.
Dave Grohl, behind a microphone, with a guitar in his hand = one of the worst things on earth
this is very good news
let's hope he quits Foo fucking Fighters
Maybe all the endless jokes they made about him being mexican finally got through to him.
or at least are on hiatus...
but basically have ignored everything since. I have no idea why, I am just worried I will be disappointed by them I suppose. Grohl's drumming was great on Songs for the Deaf, I may actually check this one out.
They were dull live, too. I seem to remember falling asleep standing up.
They'll be headlining Reading again in 2014 - believe.
which they were, but the line up is genius.
I hold JPJ in no way responsible for that.
is the woman-abusing missing ingredient...
this reads like abusing women is the missing ingredient in the band. Not what I meant. I'll get the door.
Yeah, I think he has as much impact on SFTD as Grohl does. Won't be the same without him.
Never had much love for QOTSA aside from that... this will be interesting.
but everyone seems to be forgetting that Rated R is by far the best QOTSA album
like all the best songs on SFTD (aside from the Nick Oliveri ones unfortunately) but not ruined by stupid fake radio broadcasts or all the rubbish songs
but it's just so much more consistent
I genuinely don't understand how you can be a fan of Josh Homme and not like it
and that was in a large part due to corngrohlio
the average DiSer doesn't like songs that are over 3 minutes long
Grow up, you berk.
Grohl, fronting that band, even after all these years, seems wrong
it's like watching Lionel Messi play tennis or something
Songs for the Dead is excellent, I got the edition with the free DVD, some great footage of the band playing live on that disc.
I'd actually agree with this. The first two are pretty much fautless. I always thought there was a fair bit of filler on SFTD.
I'm like an offensive disease repulsing everyone and turning everything to hate. Like the gays. And the Jews.
...of each QOTSA album, let's remember why we all flocked to this thread in the first place.
Queens + Grohl = Fucking rules
Them Crooked Vultures are incredible live, one of the best bands I've ever seen.
also, stop hating on the Foos, they're a great band.
sure he scored a great goal back in '95, but he never got anything else from going up for a corner.
s/t is so good, though. 'X-Static' is mint.
Makes no difference. The album will still be shit.
still great, tho.
was brilliant, seen it twice at the Barrowlands and was Joeys first tour (I think). He was an incredible drummer.
The debut is my favourite by a million miles...
What makes it even worse is that EVERY other record they've put out has been so beautifully and perfectly produced and mastered.
and a lot of the songs. But as an overall album it's not great... doesn't hang together very well.
so that I may watch him bashing seven shades out of the drums on the TV.
Now he is obvs very good but isn't the drum sound on Songs For The Deaf a bit odd? Sometimes it sounds like he's hitting Tupperware boxes.
does that explain the tupperware box drums? idk.
the drumwork is so good and yet it sounds like he's hitting bin lids.
Lullabies To Paralyse, now that's their underrated record. Love that album, it's fucking filthy dirty
conclusions: pretty much the same as stated upthread. there's loads of songs that really don't need to be on it at all.
eg - No One Knows -I kinda love it (esp when drunk) but when listening to the album I can't help but think how overplayed it is
-Go With the Flow - similar to NOK, but it's nowhere as good to begin with
-Gonna Leave You - just a bit boring
-Do it again - ok - probably would like it more if it didn't occur at this particular string of songs
-God is in the Radio - same as Do it Again, except it has a really good solo
-Another Love Song - just not very good
cut these and the bonus tracks (except Mosquito Song obvs) and the radio shit
and you would have a much stronger album
I should know, I have the best music taste out of anyone in the world.
but David didn't play on that one.
And the radio shit is great the way it flows between different songs.
and no way for grown men to behave. And it makes DJing Millionaire a ball-ache
I join to anal.
And I don't know why it's unreal.
rid of 'Go with the flow' is one of the strangest things I've ever heard.
it would appear... http://stereogum.com/1209051/queens-of-the-stone-age-reunites-with-nick-oliveri/news/
might get Sunny Day Real Estate back if Nate's freed up and we can all continue to ignore the solo works of Taylor :)
Since he left, so any contribution from him in Queens is great to hear.
hopefully this time they'll have someone in the studio to tell them to stop arsing about and keep it tight
what next, Cliff Richard?! Even the guy from the Scissor Sisters is on it as well.
Paul McCartney and Bob Geldof will be announced next
Especially after I remembered that JoshHomme got a lot of deserved stick for verbally abusing a fan by calling him a faggot. I love josh, but thatwasn'tcool.
And a hologram of frank sinatra
wasn't he ejected for beating up his girlfriend or wife?
One of these days he'll come with the idea of releasing a compilation of duets only with homophobic artists - "The Greatest Hits Me... Or Sing With Me".
But doesn't Elton normally get a bit antsy about this sort of thing. Or is that misguided memories?
it is also true that they can always reverse a controversy into something financially rewarding for both parties.
I'm not defending the use of the word, just making an observation. I suspect JHo would subscribe to the Louie CK idiom, which I would say most hetro middle age US males would subscribe to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-otAJrtY-w
Anyway, moving on from sweeping statements, Elton John on a QOTSA record, really? wtf? Phil Collins to be their new drummer?
And as for Dave Grohl, I've held him in the highest regard for the last 20 years, but these last few months I'm beginning tire of seeing and hearing that motherfucker everywhere (NB my use of the word motherfucker doesn't make me a misogynist).
Speculation on the new drummer is Alberto Hernandez, with a couple of fantasists praying for Jimmy Chamberlin.
Not sure about it. Needs to be more robot rock. I don't like their bass sound since Nick left.
but yeah would quite like some more robot rock like the days of old
and from the (VERY SHORT) clips of the new album, I have to say, the production sounds pretty dodgy
it's here for those that haven't heard them
It's still not very good
He seems to be a bit busy for their style though.
Quite liked 'My God Is The Sun'. This one....not so much.
...it's awesome. apparantly they full track is 6 minutes, this version is only part of the song....
Has actually made me want to dig out and have a listen to an earthlings? album or two.
this has grown on me.
repeated listens are paying dividends, very much looking forward to hearing the whole record in full
