DiStape Club - November (mixtape exchange)
Thanks to everyone who sent me addresses.
I'm in the process of sending you all the addresses of your mixtape recipient. I've started nice and easy for our first month. The theme is 'names'. You can keep it that broad or you can narrow it down further. It can be first names, full names, real people, historical people (if you only own Decemberists albums). Do what you want, but the song names have to either be a name, or contain a name.
I will post here again once I've sent all the addresses out, so if you haven't had one (or I've sent you your own address!), send me a note,
I've sent addresses in the format you gave me, so for the vast majority I've not told the sender what the recipients username is. Partly for the surprise element, partly to at least delay any stalking until you reveal who you are by giving feedback!
Keep an eye on this thread for feedback from your recipient...

If you've not had a CD by say the last week of November
drop me a note and I'll send a gentle reminder to the sender.
BUT if you can't send one, don't let it stress you out- shit happens, no-one will die. If you repeatedly don't send one, then do the right thing and gracefully drop out until you're ready to commit.
-
right, all details have been sent out
happy compiling!
-
Put together the first draft this evening
Some mighty fine shit right here.
-
We have a request from a someone new to join
in order for him to play this month we need ONE MORE person. So if you're lurking and shy- please drop me a note with your address.
-
Just done the initial tracklist
I hope my recipient like lots of guitars.
-
I've compiled 2 very differnent mixes...
which one.... WHICH ONE!
-
yep
differnent
-
Excellent! send me a note with your name/address
I should be able to put you in for this month. If not, December defintiley
-
Wrote you a pm :)
Can I be part of the exchange too?
Thanks! -
boohoo
i totes sent you my address in a note yesterday. am I in?
-
Mine is also done
Matt in Bolton: you should have something in the post pretty soon.
-
haven't had time to start it yet N.Moore sorry.
will be a cracker though
nicknackno this'd this -
the person i'm sending to
seems to have the same job as me
-
Are we sharing our tracklisting on here when they are done?
Or is that bad mix tape etiquette? I'd be interested in what other people are choosing, anyway.
I had thought it would be reasonably difficult to come up with an comp based on the name theme but in the event it could easily have been a double gatefold collection with added bonus disc of rarities. Ramming the collection down to 74 mins was the problem. I suppose it's not that surprising how many songs are named after people.
-
Yeah- I thought everyone would have loads of tracks
Do what you want etiquette-wise. The only etiquette issue is giving feedback. I'd be interested in seeing peoples' tracklisting- I guess putting tracklisting before the other person has received the CD would ruin the surprise a bit.
-
Hi ya
Got it. Thanks!
Just waiting for addresses from 2 users and then I'll send you an address
-
So up for this
I've been away over the weekend but will get on compiling this week!
-
You're aware CDs have held up to 80 minutes since at least the '90s?
Stick a couple more on there.
-
I'd be interested in doing this next month
or this month if there is still time?
-
This was fun.
Used to make a mixtape every month a few years ago but haven't done it for aaaages so it was nice to be back in the swing of it. KILLER mix as well, I'm well into it. Also, my person's first name is the same as my middle name. Good work, Badvibes.
-
he works
in mysterious ways.......
andyvine this'd this -
It has been fun
I was wondering where people were getting their choices from....are tracks coming purely from cd/vinyl/stuff they've previously downloaded or are people ripping tracks as they think of them.....?I've taken mine from cd only as i dont tend to download much and i still havent worked out how to get my vinyl onto itunes (!)....just wondering :0)
-
i have only just clocked this
but would be well up for this if there's still time. si, i'll send over my address and if there's anyone not sorted out yet then yahtzee etc. if not, whatevs.
-
Is there a limit on the running time?
Currently I’ve cut it down to a double cd – one boys disc, one girls disc. I guess part of the art of mixtaping is to be able to condense it all into one little package so if them's the rules I will be more ruthless!
-
Mine's a 2-disc set
one of noisy stuff, one of 'nicer' stuff. Rules can suck my balls.
-
Time to compile
Hardest part will surely be making it flow right
fappable this'd this -
The rules are only there to inspire
if it inspires you break the rules, then that's fine. They will happily suck your balls.
-
as long as you have a cable that can connect your record player to a speaker socket on PC
then you can get cheap software (some with free trial) to transfer vinyl. Slight ball-ache to begin with.
-
This may stifle your creativity
I think you would work better under a dictatorship.
-
Gonna do 2 discs I think.
First one will have songs on it that have the actual word 'Name' in them.
The second will be a downset. best of because I'm a prick.
-
Ok Clem Mculloch
You should have your cd Saturday morning.
-
Sent mine out yesterday morning
but I forgot to put my username on it...
-
hanshotfirst
You are a gentleman Sir!
-
Another late arrival at the party here.
Will send you my address shortly...if there’s still time / numbers for this month, then great. If not, no worries…look forward to next month.
-
Shit, I forgot all about this
I'd like to throw my name in the hat for this month, though if that's too much hassle that's cool: I'll sit it out and wait till December (and probably post a spotify playlist instead seeing as I'm just sad enough to compile something regardless).
-
twigboyjoe / colossalhorse
send me your name/addresses. You can join this month but you'll be sending each other a mix, which isn't quite so magic but if you're game then cool. And you'll be fully integrated for December.
-
You both already have sent them!
good work. I'll send you addresses today
-
Lovely
Will get right to work. Ta!
-
Mine arrived today, cheers brainfeedr
haven't listened yet, but the packaging is lovely. Like the way the tracklist/timings are lined like in the sleeve for Godspeed's Skinny Fists. I'll give feedback on the music later, excited to listen though.
-
Put the playlist together last weekend.
Twocked some CDs from work yesterday.
Will hopefully combine the two sometime this weekend / next week.
Yeah.
-
Wahey
Glad you noticed. I wanted the packaging to be prettier but I didn't have any normal tape, hence the electrical tape everywhere.
-
If you get another late arrival...
Can I join in? Otherwise can I be included for December? I've sent you my details. Thanks!
-
There are a lot more songs with names
than I originally anticipated....
-
Received mine...
Not sure who's the sender - starts off with Spank Rock and ends with Martina Topley Bird.
I really like it, a few songs I already knew, a few songs I'd heard but forgotten and it's always nice to have a bit of Butthole Surfers. Favourite song? Slint or Ornette Coleman. Big fan of the genre hopping too.
You should expect one from me next week, it's almost ready... -
i want to join too!
can i be included for next month, if i'm too late for this month
-
Does it have the song 'Kool Keith Housing Things' on it
And the phrase "This is how I house things" written on the front cover?
-
Which Slint song?
Don, Aman? Or one of the ones off Tweez? Mine's got 'Ron' on it...
-
It's 'Carol' from Tweez.
I made that one.

Right this is coming together lovely
Just need to fine tune it.
Should be in the post this week!
-
Nice one!
Sorry I took so long to reply about it. I really like the artwork. I'll be honest, I've only had time to listen to half of it so far but here are my thoughts:
- Mercury Rev song has amazing drums but that guys voice is waaaank
- Julian Lynch song is great in a kind of creepy, being in David Lynch's waiting room way
- Owen Pallett song sounds nothing like Final Fantasy which was kind of disappointing but it's pretty nice in it's own way
- Dan Snaith's voice sounds REALLY weird on the Caribou one, is it old or something? I liked it anyhow
- Bert Jansch rules. I'd never gotten round to listening to him but I'm well into Fahey et al so obviously thought it was beautiful
- Broadcast song has really amazing synth sounds. I kind of wish it was an instrumental (I know that's a bit mean because the lady died recently didn't she? I'm sure she sounds lovely on other tracks). -
Had a chance to listen yet?
I apologise if you found the nastier one quite irritating in parts. I had misgivings about the Natasha Bedingfield remix from the start...
-
not yet, visited my brother at the weekend
but i'm home this afternoon so will give it a spin, today.
-

I think I could do 6 disc box set
I'm not going to though. It will be 2 CDs max (possibly just 1 if I get ruthless with the shortlist) which will hopefully be compiled and sent by the end of next week. Should some good sounds winging their way off to Bangladesh soon...
-
ah pleased you are kind of pleased...
that caribou track is off Andorra and yeah i guess he does sound a little different. Nearly put some jeff fahey on there in fact.
-
seemed to have lost all my blank discs
two-disc playlist and art and all that shit is complete though so should be able to send next week when i can afford some more cds. ended up making a new tune for this too, so whoever gets this should keep an ear out for the dud track somewhere in the middle
-
In the post today from very_small_monk
cheers!
Got some bit of Mogwai, Dylan, Nirvana, Belle and Seb, Slowdive, Mclusky, Explosions in the Sky, worriedaboutsatan. Nice bit of post-rock book-ending methinks. Top stuff.
-
Mines going through finishing touches and front cover art work
will post some time next week. Sorry to my person that I've faffed around so long.
I haven't received one yet though so I don't feel too bad.

Gonna try and get yours finished over the weekend – haven't forgotten!

sorry if it bums you out, nodj
-
My post probably sounded way more negative than I meant it to
I'm pleased as punch!
nicknackno this'd this -
Finally had a chance to listen to the rest of it so here are my thoughts:
- The Suicide song should be incredibly boring but is somehow amazing. really fun to try and sing like him too.
- Bill Callahan song was nice - I can't help but really dislike him because he dated Joanna Newsom though.
- The Fall are one of those bands I think I need to finally admit I just don't 'get'. I love Sparta FC and a couple of others but everything else just seems like stuff happening.
- Black Tambourine's one is fun
- Francoise Hardy - this song is really, really beautiful!
- Faust - krautrock's always good - the ending is weird as balls.
- SY - usually I'm not a big fan of Sonic Youth but this song's actually amazing. All the strange guitar bends in the middle that sound like detuned piano are really good. Just good.
- Sun Kil Moon - big fan of the instrumentation but the guy's voice is pretty weak. Still a nice track though.
- Lee Hazlewood is probably my favourite country artist so this obviously went down a treat. Thanks!
-
Getting mine away on Monday
so Joe, prepared to have your ears blown away!
Hope it's your cup of tea. -
Ah great.....
....that bill callahan song is better than nice its a work of art (!) and do you really dislike him cos he dated JN and you hate her so by proxy him, or do you love JN and therefore dislike him because of insane jealousy?? Thanks for leaving such great feedback though and i'm pleased that you liked the cd... it'll be an hour of free jazz and opera for next months lucky exchange.x
-
Oh the latter
I love Joanna Newsom more than any other person I've never met. I reckon it's the kind of song that takes a couple of listens to properly stick - I shall revisit it soon.
-
Got your cd today and listened to it a couple of times.....
I do have a fair few of the tracks already (i'm an old bastard too) and here are my thoughts.
Civil Civic- was ok, not really my cup of tea but a nice opener
TMBG- i liked it, then didnt, then did again.
Paul Kelly-hmmmm not really (who is he?)
Cpt beefheart was great, i dont know that song but i'm yet to hear something by him i dont like.
Steely Dan are one of my favourite bands so thanks for putting 2 of their songs on.
Nice to have some reggie, john holt is class of course aswell as the melodians....hugh mundell i did not know and it is fab, ditto mr barrington levy.
stevie YES!
Ah i love the sundays, had a crush on harriet wheeler for a long time.
John Cale paris 1919....one of the greatest songs ever.
warren zevon was great, dont know much by him apart from werewolves of london, i thought it was pentangle on first listen.
julian cope is god like.
Gonzalez was horrible! sounded like flight of the conchords doing fun lovin criminals.
Siruismo was ok....not heard of them...was a bit like isolee.
Arthur russell is wonderful and i hadnt heard this...anthony and the johnsons vocals sound so alike to his.
Sweeneys men was great...loved it and will be checking more of their stuff out.
And Jimmy Webb.....beeeyoooooootiful. such a lovely version.
THANK YOU! -
sounds like you gave it an 8.25
Nice one! thanks for the feedback.
Sweeney's Men are great, they cover alot of American/British folk as well, not just Irish stuff, check out "Handsome Cabin Boy" or "Rattlin Roarin Willy" (yeah I know...) amazing musicians.
One of them was in The Pogues for as little while too I think.Give Paul Kelly another chance, he's amazing, one of the greatest songwriters of our generation without doubt:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMqDUETmekA -
oh
and Zevon is God.
He's the real blue-collar american hero, not Springsteen. -
cheers jr88
some good shit i hadn't heard in the second half
-
OK listened to this a couple of times now
Disc 1:
Really enjoyed Sambasunda Quintet, sounded like something that would be released on Sublime Frequencies.
Aristocrat P Child, loved this incredibly funky. Enjoyed the way Daphne Oram track was put in between those two tracks.
Already heard AnCo, Atlas Sound, Cats In Paris (reminded me to revisit their album though, which is bloody good). Joanna Newsom lovely as always.Disc 2:
Never really listened to Shellac or Big Black before but thoroughly enjoyed both of their tracks. Props to Steve Albini i guess. That 65DOS/Natasha Bedingfield mash up was weird but it worked. Finally never listened to Swans before but fuck me that last track was incredible, is that off the new album? All in all two bloody good cds. PS how did you make them into one long mix?
-
cheers man
glad you enjoyed it
-
right, I think I've actually got all the songs
just sorting the order, making a cover and BOOM IT BE DONE.
-
jp!
my bad ;)
-
Woo!
I'm really glad you liked them. I heard Sambasunda Quintet on WNYC's New Sounds programme which I heavily recommend.
Yeah, that's the penultimate track off the new Swans album which is a freaking masterpiece.I just mixed them all together in Audacity because I was planning on making it more 'mix-y' but chickened out. I hope you don't mind that there aren't separate tracks!
-
Cover art...
can I be bothered?
-
Finalised tracklist at weekend
Gonna knock up a cover tonight / tomo and should have it in the post Weds. So colossalhorse, you’ll hopefully have some weekend listening…just hope you like it!
-
I'd second that Paul Kelly comment
What d'ya go for?
-
I'm sure I will!
I've sorted out a tracklisting now I just need to get hold of an actual CD to burn onto. Slight oversight on my part. I should have it sent before the weekend.
-
Now then Keith in Bathgate
as if that's a real place. I've finally got around to buying some blank CDs so yours will be in the post tomorrow.
-
Can I have a volunteer to send a duplicate CD to someone
One of our 'members' can 't do one- I guess it would be nice if the person they were going to send to still got a CD.
-
I'll send two copies
Mine is fucking badass anyway, so the more that hear it the merrier innit
-
We've had one more pull-out
presumably from someone inspired by reading the above post. Anyone else fancy sending out a 2nd CD?
-
I'm on the edge of my seat.
This had better be good.
-
going away Tuesday (tomorrow)
had problems with the printer and colour cartridge!
-
no worries I have shocking handwriting
any songs in particular stand out?
-
James in Sheffield
When my work printer stops chewing everything up I'll get the covers done and it will be on it's way to you tomorrow.
-
oh hai Jack in Wingrave
I thought I would have got mine done by now, but I haven't. I'm going away for a week, so I will send it to you as soon as I get back.
It's pretty much done, just needs assembling.
That makes it sound like it's not done at all.

Great song
I was tempted to go for Shane Warne on mine but it's a bit too throwaway I feel. Waiting for the 'food' theme....any excuse for Gravy :)
-
off the top of my head
the song Anna Lee was probably the one I enjoyed most that I'd never heard. never heard the band before but it reminded me of Sparklehorse a bit. Good stuff.
-
ANDYVINE
Just got home after a knackering day at work and your CD has arrived. Brilliant stuff, I'm excited – will listen and report back soon!
-
Ace
keith PM'd me to say he'd got his too and that he was listening to it in the car. Hope he didn't crash coz he's not reported back yet...

I'm alive!
I'm a big fan of that Lightening Bolt track.
I also like the one where the man is rapping and it's a bit Mike Skinner gone metal.
-
Michael in Horsham
My mixtape is packaged and ready to be posted first thing tomorrow morning. Sorry its so late in the month!
-
YEAH love a bit of Lightning Bolt
Not sure which one you mean about Mike Skinner gone metal, is it the Graham Coxon track?
jamiethomasjamiethomasjamiethomasjamiethomasjamiethomas
That's the only one i can think of that fits that description. <3 Graham Coxon
-
got mine thanks prob500
particulalry like the Jeffery Lewis track, will have to check them out. I've put my mix on mixcloud in case anyone else wants to listen

yours is in the post. expect one CD of honest misery/sadness/regret/horror/emptiness and another of all of those things again but hiding behind a mask of stupidity/fun/bravado/sunshine/cocaine.

oxo_foxo
sorry for being tardy it went in the post today.
And much appreciated ethricdouble - I had an enjoyable listen on my work computer today but will crank it up at home over the weekend, and not bumming me out at all, quite the joyous little ensemble.
-
^lots of this
Though mostly the mine's-packaged-up-and-ready-to-send-tomorrow and still-haven't-got-one-myself parts.
WATCH OUT BADVIBES, IT'S ON ITS WAY.

I am excited.

If you're Dan of W6 7**
It'll be on its way tomorrow.

Cheers!
-
It turns out it wasn't him at all.
I (shamefully) quite enjoyed the Jamie T track (which isn't metal at all, but I think I remembered it as more metallic), but have now paid more attention to Graham Coxon and liked that one.
I really like that Kites of San Quentin (?) one too.
-
Ross McIntosh
Mix all finished and just needs packaging up and sending. It'll be as long as it takes to get to Bangladesh.
It's 49 tracks across 2 discs, some old, some new - hope it'll be to your taste!
-
There's no shame in liking Jamie T
From The Kites Of San Quentin are actually a mate's band, I fucking love them though. There's looooaaads of stuff knocking about the interweb for them, http://fromthekitesofsanquentin.bandcamp.com/ is probably yr best place to start
-
Thanks! I've been listening to this over the weekend. I like.
I'd only heard the Zomby track before, all the rest was new to me.
Highlights: port-royal, KCE sound team Japan, Talbot Fade and Wes!CD 2 is gonna be on in the car for the foreseeable future.
I wouldn't say I was disappointed but I was hoping for a bit more from a song called "Inside Pikachu's Cunt" haha. Thanks again.veridisjoe this'd this -

I really like that one.

Still haven't received anything yet. I'm feeling left out and desperately in need of some new tunes.

Might ask Si to give them a polite nudge but people got stuff on you know? Don't want to be a dick about it.

:D i only put it in the post yesterday
amazing. (also did you like the hand written sleeve on the side, you can now organise them in editions) ahaha i'm such a nerd.
i really hope you like it. Some merge nicely, some don't but fuck it.
-
It arrived today!
I loved the gatefold sleave. Nice touch.
Listened to 2/3 of the compilation so far and the flow is really nice. Most of it is new to me which is good and there are a fair few bands I've been wanting to hear more of (Deerhoof, Boris, Dirty Three). I'll provide more specific feedback after a couple of listens. Cheers! -
not really a ^this. just some mislaid fingers on a touch screen.
although there's some fuckin' bostin stuff on it, and no mistake.
which only goes to emphasise what I was gonna say. which is how I regret not getting in amongst it. i'm daft for abstaining. love me a mixtape swap. imma in for the next one.

I'd like to know which songs were chosen most by Disers.
Oddly I cheated with a YYYs song too but chose Rich :D
-
Dear Laure of Scotland
Sorry my mix is so late: I had it all ready to go before some family illness issues intervened. The CD is ready I just need to sort out some sort of cover and then it'll be on it's way. Rest assured it's absolutely brilliant*.
*This statement is in no way legally binding.
-
^I was wondering about this
I was trying to work out whether every tape would have something like Tony's Theme by Pixies or Susanne by Weezer (>Harry Patch by Radiohead etc etc.)
-
Awesome
looking forward to hearing what you think!

hi, do you still need one more person?

can see how the rustie tune would not necessarily meet the expectations of such a brilliant title (i love it, myself), but i do think it's a solid attempt at recreating whatever noises go on in there tbf
glad you enjoyed it!
-
who had me?
:'/
-
Sent by airmail BTW
so hopefully won't take too long.
-
Just one song in common with my mix
Lizzy by Melvins. Though the YYY choice was a bit of a cheat, but it works if you take it out of context. "I'm Rich!"

give her hell!
-
People are busy
so at least give them until the end of the month. If after chasing up however they've not done a mix, I'm sure there are others in the club that wouldn't mind sending out a duplicate. Me for one if asked nicely!

if you do, there'll be some dramatic reason she couldn't send one and you'll feel terrible. Actually. Let me double check I sent your address.
-
Indeed.
Are we cool with it being monthly? Do we think every 2 mths is more realistic. This is early days so we're bound to discover flaws in the system.
-
yeah I did
should be cool
-
the flaws and dawdlers will remain regardless
a month is plenty. do or die!
-
I'm happy to say 2 months.
December is a hard month to get right, plus I only found out about the person Im sending it to yesterday!

it's all coooooool
thought i'd check in case lilolololololololaure had sent it as nothing has arrived :'/
no probs if you haven't tho liloloolo - time is hard to find ¯\_(?)_/¯

I enjoyed it A LOT
I hadn't seen the note on the side. I thought it got better as it went on, the Mount Kimbie/Odd Future/something else i can't remember off my head tracks were my favourite. <3

I'm one of the ones who has not sent a tape
I have no excuse, but I'll be buying a stamp from asda on my way home and ill post it tonight 1st class.

I've also had no tape too..... can't complain tho!

I've done it, just need to get a stamp on it. That's why I like te internet, no need for stamp and post office. :(
I did not receive anything either, but that's ok, December will be fine by me too.
For my defence, I entered the exchange late, but I'll be much quicker next month. :)veridisjoe this'd this -
you're all forgiven
I'm late too. Let's not panic, it's not even the 30th!

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds – I Had A Dream, Joe
AC/DC – Whole Lotta Rosie
Art Brut – Emily Kane
Broder Daniel – Luke Skywalker

I think I've got one on the way (if I read the thread well!). -
Mine arrived today, thanks sidrrrs!
Not had a chance to listen to it yet, but any mix that starts off with Smokey and ends with the Boo Radleys is one that I'll be making time for.
-
Hello, El Goodo.
Your mix has been completed, and I should be posting it on Saturday. Sorry for the delay!
-
So then I will need to work out who needs to be removed from DiStape Club
If you fall into one of these 2 categories send me a note
1) You haven't received a CD yet (don't forget to note me if you receive one AFTER noting me)
2) You haven't sent a CD but intend toNot arsed if you're late, I'm just trying to work out who's goner AWOL before I send out the next addresses.
Also this time shall I just tell everyone the user name they're sending to and receiving from? I was worried people might have stalking/hassling fears, but the not knowing thing has probably made this more confusing than it needed to be in November.
-
btw
I also don't care if anyones been too busy. Shit happens. Its just a matter of getting rid of people who have left the forum.
-
Sending my one out today
sorry for being slow and shit. The mix is fucking amazing though.
-
Hey there Puds.
Well this is a wonderful surprise. I was one of the guys who had to drop out early on so I wasn't expecting still to get a mix from someone else. I'm all excited now, can't wait to get it!
-
sent
but given where i am and the bangladeshi postal service it might take a while...
-
sorry sorry sorry
David in Kent, I thought I had posted your CD with a load of other stuff I needed to post but I have just found it and I didn't post it but I'm going to post it TOMORROW sorry sorry!!! It's on its way!
-
SIMON from READING
Yours will be sent on Monday and I hope you like and thanks for the one I got and please don't kick me out of the club, I intend to be much more punctual next (/this) month.
-
Would it be really boring
To just have a BESTA 2012 mix?
-
That's me
No problem - look forward to receiving it!
-
Cheers Oxo
Don't worry about the lateness, mine only went out a week ago. Looking forward to it. Will let you know what I think!
-
Sent mine tardily
last week. Awaiting a surrogate mix but not checked post this weekend.
-
I got this Saturday
Thank you! I haven't had a chance to have a listen yet, mostly because I was busy getting my own effort finished and sent. Kudos on the A-Z theme: that's pretty ambitious. So much so that I'll allow your slightly tenuous choice for Z...
I'll post my thoughts when I get a chance to have a listen. But there's plenty I haven't heard and the tracks I do know I love, which is always a good sign.
-
Right, I have this all packaged up and ready to go in front of me
it'll be in a postbox shortly. Sorry for the wait but it's on it's way.
-
Ideas for the Dec collection:
The easy option (which can suck my balls):
-Tracks of 2012.
Or, inspired by various recent threads on the forum, one of these:
- songs with swearing in;
- sexy time songs;
- covers version.Or, how about:
- Songs that aren't from the UK or USA.
but I'm sure I'll enjoy putting together whatever theme it is.
-
If it's a 2012 theme
you'll have to count me out.
-
I like the songs that aren't from the UK or USA idea
Mind you a CD for November would be nice. Come on Mixtape Dude pull ya finger out!
-
I can't believe people didn't even manage the 1st month?!
I like the idea of non uk or u.s mix aswell.....c'mon clocks ticking.
-
Remixes
is a good future theme. Sure to bring some interesting sounds out of peoples' collections.
Pale-eyedBadger and Lililololaure this'd this -
can our next one be
pornography?
-
Jack!
Your November mix is done. Sorry it's taken so long. Will it be worth it? Damn straight it will. Be in the post tomorrow.
-
I haven't got one yet
But I have only just this minute finished mine to send - so that'll be karma working her thang
-
Thanks for allowing Z!
Be interested to hear your thoughts...glad initial signs are promising.
-
haha
You are definitely worse than me - I managed to post mine before you!
I have to admit it was this week I did go to the post office - It was a brave effort as I had to wait at least 30 minutes before being served. :(
-
I' m here to say
thank you, thank you, Colossal Horse, I've got your Mixtape.
Sounds brilliant, like the tracklist already.
Will feed back soon. :) -
your effort is appreciated :)
cd arrived yesterday. thanks! haven't listened yet but the tracklist looks absolutely ace (with plenty of things i've never heard too). big up world's end girlfriend <3
-
Glad you like it
... or you're going to like it. That World' s End Girlfriend track is one of the best of 2011 (IMO).
-
I think the next theme should be
body parts
-
I think the next theme should be
decided now!
I'm raring to go for the next one.
Come on Si, make a decision. :)Pale-eyedBadger, brainfeedr, colossalhorse, nicknackno, inside-outside, GoatmeatMF, and twigboyjoe this'd this -
Great mix thanks
I 'm already great fan of White Demim, Mountain Goats and Tom Waits. The other artists not as well known to me, so it was great to listen to the selection you put together.
I was particulary impressed with:
- Jets to Brazil
- Sunny Day Real Estate
- Strand of Oaks (never heard of them before but great song)
- Pinback ( I went to Spotify to check their stuff)Not so sure about that cover of Suzanne from Nina Simone, but it's just not my cup of tea I think.
Thanks again! -
Themes?
Films - Bands/ Music inspired by/ featured in/ referencing films.
MoneyI had more ideas this morning but I've forgotten them.
-
No worries :)
Glad you liked it. That Nina Simone cover is usually quite divisive. And by divisive I mean it's me vs everybody else I know who has heard it. Ah well.
-
It arrived!
First spin this morning, a second to follow tonight and more over the weekend probably...not just for intrigue or 'what do I like' purposes, just cos it's a great mix!
Hops genres smoothly, and nice touch on the underlying sample(s?) peppering the mix with names & such like. Furthermore, didn't know at least 50% of it, so opened up some avenues for further investigation as any good mixtape should...thank you!!
-
RE Patrick Moore
The next one should definitely be space
