Stars of the Lid at Round Chapel 10th December
http://www.songkick.com/concerts/14173599-stars-of-the-lid-at-round-chapel
Someone just posted this on the Stars of the Lid facebook page. Definitely going to this because it doesn't look like I'm gonna be going to ATP.
Sold out already?
Argh
Blimey that was quick!
Thank god I booked mine this morning...
Ditto,
so lucky I saw it on Songkick this morning. Can't believe it's sold out that quickly.
I've just booked,
Wegottickets have about 30 left currently
And all gone again
Thanks DiS, would not have known about this otherwise.
Yay
just got two on wegottickets
says 2 more left still...I suspect that there are still quite a few left - the Round Chapel is a decent size.
It's probably just that the Miles Of Smiles guys weren't expect such a rush and didn't throw all the available tickets up on wegottickets.
Just bought two tickets, I guess they're going up in batches.
Was a bit of an impulse buy, I don't really know much Stars of the Lid but fell in love with A Winged Victory for the Sullen last year.
Um, where to start I guess?
More on sale now on wegottickets
Just booked 2.
It's all good
but Refinement of the Decline is my favourite. Their show I saw last time they toured the UK 5 or so years ago is still my favourite gig ever.
wahey
bagged two tickets. massively excited!
Vian this'd thisThe Tired Sounds of...
Is still my favourite. I always recommend that one first.
Refinement is also great, and also has my favourite SOTL track on it (and my favourite song name ever) 'December Hunting For Vegetarian Fuckface'.
purCHASED
thx all
oh sweet Jesus
this is the best news I've heard for a long time.
Tickets purchased.
So this has changed location to St John at Hackney.
I don't know either of the venues, is this a good or bad thing?
Well, it's bigger, so more people can go.
Roly Porter and Anna Rose Carter confirmed as supports too.
I can't walk home from there
Hmph
(not exactly that far though tbf)
bought one
kind of on a whim but I've liked what I've heard of them so far.

marckee this'd this
Is this gig seated?
I'd love to see them, but I'm not sure I could see this sort of music whilst standing.. (it's probably sold out now anyway so beside the point)
It's not sold out - the venue change has meant that there are more tickets available.
I would guess that it's seated, being in a church.
Apparently this is in a different venue.
It's now at St John-at-Hackney
Oh probably should have read the thread before posting in it.
Pretty embarassing.
marckee this'd thisIt looks
like it'll be ideal from a google image search - http://www.london.anglican.org/images/Library/Photo8724.jpg
I would be
99.99999999% certain it's seated. I don't think I've ever been to a church gig where you can stand.
I went to one on Monday
in a church without seating. One of the worst gigs I've seen.
Won't be seated
Been to a few hackney childrens theatre things there... the seats they have are just fold away ones. They may have a few out i guess but it will mostly be standing dowstairs. There is seating upstairs.
Probably seated upstairs, standing downstairs
No fucking way am I standing up during this.
Yep,
Emailed the promoter who confirmed it. Bah! Will have to get there early for seats
roastthemonaspit this'd thisWas tempted to buy a ticket
but as I'm seeing them at ATP anyway I'm not gonna shell out if it's not entirely seated.
Really?
Gah, will have to do the same.
I assume
That's what it is, he just said it'll be a mix of both.
Can't make this now
If anyone wants to go and hasn't booked yet.
Tonight!
Trying to work out a route to get to the venue, coming into London via Liverpool Street. Looks like a pig of a place to get to.
Any tips on best route?Similar problem
Got to get to the fennchurch st/Southend line. If you're going to liv street then would Stratford work, that's pretty close. Any way you go it involves buses I think :-s
Hi
If everything is running okay in the afternoon you should be able to take an Greater Anglia train directly from Liverpool Street Station to Hackney Downs which is a short walk away.
Get a train from Liv St to Hackney Downs, takes 7 minutes and you're a couple of minutes walk from the venue (I'm hoping).
The 48 bus also goes from outside Liv St right to the venue but I anticipate it taking an absolute age.
Nice one, thanks
Should be easy enough!
Very short notice
But it's looking like I'm going to be overrunning at work tonight and won't get away. If I can manage to reallocate the tickets is anyone still looking?
If anyone wants a free ticket
message me.
Once everyone got into the venue,
That was pretty amazing, wasn't it?
Really liked Roly Porter too - great stuff.
The queue was a joke
Shouldn't leave punters in the cold for an hour.
But great venue and fantastic gig. Roly porter was good and SOTL were simply fantastic. Putting the bar in a side room would have helped, but otherwise a great night out. SOTL played some new stuff, old stuff and unplaced stuff. Lovely!
We turned up around 10 minutes early,
had to wait outside for 20 minutes, but got seats on the front row of the balcony. Pretty pleased.
Thought the gig itself was stunning. They absolutely nailed it. I was a bit worried it wasn't going to be loud enough, but you could feel the bass through the pews. The projections were a nice touch too.
The only thing that pissed me off a bit was the sound of people opening cans every couple of seconds. Wait until the end of the song FFS. Glad I chose to see them last night though rather than at ATP....Mnemosene this'd thisI watched the start of their ATP set..
and it wàs lovely but definitely no comparison to last night, when the bass kicked in I felt like crying, and the projections were fantastic
Amazing stuff
Felt kind of sorry for the cameraman who smashed his camera lens at a particularly inopportune moment.
Gutted I missed the encore, as Twin Peaks Episode 30 is one my very favourites. However, hearing December Hunting For Vegetarian Fuckface live more than made up for it. Absolutely stomach wibblingly epic.
Everyone should get his record
it's brilliant
aah is THAT what that noise was?
sounded like something massive falling on the floor. I instinctively looked round to the projectors to make sure it wasn't one of those that had fallen to the ground
Mnemosene this'd thisawesome stuff
Roly Porter was superb, and SOTL too. Pretty sure they played a Dead Texan track too? it sounded JUST like one, which made me happy.
Was that the guy up on the pulpit?
I loved how he sort of collapsed over the rail afterwards in despair, and just stayed in that position for ages.
awesome night
I was particularly impressed by how good the sound was for all three acts, I know churches can often be a bit tricky from an acoustics perspective but they utilized the space perfectly.
jontosh2001 and Mnemosene this'd thisIt was very nice and enjoyable
I loved the projections as well. So very pretty.
but I just don't think church gigs are for me. Admittedly i've only been to 2 this year that have been the same style of music but it sends me to sleep. And then I wake up from a little dozey relaxing nap and then I'm irritated and can't get comfortable. AND ITS SO COLD. And the people opening their cans fucked me off.
But otherwise it was a lovely gig.
Does anyone else fall asleep? I think I can only listen to this kind of music when I'm in a bed. I did have a wonderful deep sleep last night mind.
I plan on doing that this very evening
His stuff reminded me a lot of Ben Frost. Worked really well with the churches acoustics.
Mnemosene this'd thisPerfect gig, worth waiting years for as I have done.
Agree that the queue was a joke though, and personally I could have done with it all starting a bit earlier (then they could have played another couple of songs). The bar aspect was annoying but it was probably either that or the Union Chapel 'no drinks' policy which may have annoyed some.
Roly Porter was great too, and Anna Rose Carter was nice but seemed to only play for about ten minutes!
Very memorable gig
My favourite bit was 10 minutes into SOTL set when the bass just kept creeping up and up before hittting an obscene level which shook and rattled the entire building. If the rest of the set had stayed at that level I think the roof would've fallen in.
Aside from the quite incredible SOTL peformance the organisation of the event was nothing short of appalling. I got there as the doors were (meant to) open and had to wait 50 minutes to get in. Piss poor.
Also, did they not think that holding a gig in large church in the middle of winter would be cold? There were some radiators stuck to some of the walls but they the heating wasn't on! (I touched a couple - they were stone cold). Whoever was responsible for the organising was totally out of their depth.
jack_on_fire and jontosh2001 this'd thisI saw him supporting Ben Frost, coincidentally
Almost certainly my favourite gig this year
I was on the cusp of sleep when watching Tim Hecker at St Giles in the dark earlier this year
aside from being a little uncomfortable on the pew it was perfect, just trying to hit that spot of `falling asleep` without quite letting yourself go entirely. Reminds me of how much I used to like falling asleep to music (years ago, my wife doesn't like it).
H. was falling asleep too, though we were on an uncomfortable pew.
She enjoyed it much more than I thought though, after being in the queue for so long, I thought she was going to hold it against me forever.
Amazing.
I think I saw their last UK show, Holy Trinity Church in Leeds almost 5 years ago, which was and maybe remains the most incredible gig I've seen. But that was special. Really enjoyed Anna Rose Carter, as short as her set was, am very interested to hear more from her. And Roly Porter was a hugely enjoyable surprise. Girlfriend hated it. I thought it was class. Like an amazing avant-garde horror film score. The guy in front of me visibly jumped every time he set off one of those huge thumps of digital noise.
Stars Of The Lid though, that was something else. I thought I was going to cry or be sick or something during December Hunting. Didn't really know what to do with myself. I left cold but ecstatically happy.flackcaptain this'd thisThat was him!
Expensive night for him.
Mesmerising
Not sure how anybody could've fallen asleep during that, the combination of the music and the visuals were utterly gripping. There were times where I was just frozen in my seat gawking up at the projections, unable to move. The music is beautiful but I thought the projections took them to another level.
Big, big thanks to the kindly diser who offered up their ticket. Really enjoyed it.
Roly Porter and Ben Frost
I wish I'd seen that.
That was pretty special, eh
Never listened to SOTL before, but loved that. Church was bloody cold though.
