No disrespect but those aren't particularly high figures in this day and age.
That number of Facebook fans isn't hard if you spam hard enough - I know of bands with that many fans and scarcely anyone turns up to their gigs nonetheless.
The Youtube figures aren't bad but again, I know plenty of bands with more Youtube hits and it's certainly no indicator they're particularly successful or have a huge fanbase.
Don't get me wrong - the band should be pleased some people like them and have watched the videos but that's definitely not the kind of numbers that suggests a band that's even close to breaking the big time...

They've got a long way to go before they are any where near close to making that leap ...
like many bands of that ilk, all they can really do is plug away; concentrate on playing live and honing their craft, gradually building up a local fanbase and gaining local press attention ... hoping that some A&R bod hears it and feels confident in it enough to take a gamble, invest the money needed to push for mainstream attention while seriously hoping they don't become 'the new Upper Room'.

"Hard to Love You" is a song written by Ryan Stanton. The project began in September 2010. Originally, the concept was to be an animated cartoon with Ryan playing the song. As time went by, I ended putting all the band members of The Peppermint Apes in the film. Halfway through the film, the bands line up changed except for Ryan Stanton and Lewis Brown. I then had to scrap all the artwork I had made up to that point.
After speaking with Colin Stanton, the band's manger, It was decided to continue to make the film with Ryan and Lewis and the band's mascot "Pepe".
The video opens up with Pepe and a pair of squirrels who play the percussion parts of the song by swishing their tails and banging acorns. The song takes place in an English Garden with Ryan arriving on a giant bee who cannot see very well.
The bee lands on Pepe (The band's mascot) and Pepe tosses the bee upwards were it crashes into a blimp. The bee, not seeing very well, thinks the blimp is a another giant bee who happens to be a girl! (It was love at first site!) He begins to chase the blimp through the sky, when the blimps pilot pops out of a hatch on top of the blimp and tosses the bee a pair of glasses, allowing him see that the giant bee he was falling in love with was only a blimp that was bee shaped!
Saddened the bee turns away from the blimp and fly's off only to run into another giant bee who happens to be the girl of his dreams! They fly off happily. Back at the English garden, Pepe hops on Lewis' GS Scooter, bumps Lewis into the air and he then lands on the scooter as Pepe drives off joining the bees in the guitar garden. The blimp is in the background and the camera zooms in on the blimp and the credits roll.

Hello everybody,
I am a new user drawn here by this discussion. Well, I say discussion but really it seems to be something more akin to a lynching all because somebody happened to express their pleasure in the music of the Peppermint Apes. I heard two of my younger colleagues talking about this thing that was 'well funny' and 'sick', which turned out to be this thread. Having browsed the text in some detail this afternoon I find it to be neither.On the contrary I think that they are an excellent and well turned out young band. Extremely professional and a credit to the UK. I have not heard such an exciting prospect for a long, long time. Thanks to Thebigc I now have my summer soundtrack sorted!
I also checked out their page on myspace. Dancefloor Hero and Poor Little Rich Girl are stuck in my mind after only a couple of listens. Very distinctive keyboard riffs and an expert way with melody. Come on people, cast aside the snide comments and give these boys a fighting chance.

Peppermint Apes are evolving into the band that fills the hole between credible indie and mainstream success.
Arguably Britain's best dressed band, and (by all accounts) nicest band (by virtue of celebrating mother's and father's days yearly through taking a day off of their relentless work-ethic encapsulating gigging schedule to spend time with their folks), their next single sounds like a band absorbing their influences (insert your favourite bands in these brackets) and creating a special mix which sounds new whilst having that pop sheen that allows the moneymen to bang their bishops.
The sounds the rhythm guitarist manages to ejaculate out of his guitar are quite simply fretwork of a Beethoven-esque quality (had Beethoven been interested in icing musical cakes instead of simply creating and baking them; the singer is a bi buff ; and the bassist and the drummer have not been recruited through a classified ad.
Chris, Colin, Clive and Geoff - they sound like any old normal nobody's - but who needs a name like Ringo when you're busy reinventing the sound of the indie boy underground!
The band also regularly subject themselves to drugs tests to avoid the chances of a member picking up a drug addiction during their relentless gigging schedule and thus causing the band to disintegrate - it can be confirmed that they are spotlessly clean to the point of sterility, both pharmaceutically and sonically. So Peppermint Apes are here to stay - like the Beatles a phenomenon is born, a juggernaut is unleashed. Here's your chance to be able to tell your grandchildren - I liked them before everybody else did!

The keyboard riff is so pure and on the mark throughout and really makes the song stand out. Oh I'm well aware of Elwell's threat...
but I couldn't take anymore. Having immersed myself in all things Ape over the last few days it's got to the stage where I can't hold it anymore. Initially I couldn't stop laughing at the videos... the gurning to the camera, the way that they seem to really believe that what they're doing is of artistic merit... but now I've got to the stage where I'm just angry about it. I mean, the interview on 'Irish TV'... what is that? Then there's this absolute classic radio interview I found - which is in two parts:

Whoever mentioned Garth Marenghi is so right. But I genuinely think Matthew Holness would look at all this stuff and say 'no, people won't buy this'.

I saw them blow the audience away at this years OSFEST where they were on a bill with other acts with only a fraction of the TALENT and think they deserve recognition. I also wondered whether other people here saw what I did and felt the same. They are a great tight band with the right attitude, a proper work ethic and a real ear for a tune. Well played everyone,
Ha... well it appears that the game is up :( but I gotta say it’s been a good run over the course of the last week or so which has thrilled, delighted, and surprised in equal measure. So much solid stuff of note too, but in particular I have to mention Gashwrecker’s (frankly astonishing) poster design the other night and then, just as everything looked over and done with, the beyond-incredible story that found its way on to the board today. Outstanding work people - I almost died from laughter. It probably goes without saying too, but I now have physical copies of both of these taking pride of place on my desk. Gonna nip to Wilko first thing tomorrow to get an appropriate frame for the poster. I think it’s an apt establishment. I might try the Factory Shop first, mind.
Disappointed to see it blown so soon after making thread of the week though (boo, Theo, boo!) but then I guess it had to grind to a halt sometime and even before today’s final hurrah it was becoming ever more preposterous reading. Shame though, because I feel there’s still so much more of t’Apes we’ve yet to discover!
I just want to clarify again though - just in case it’s not absolutely, completely, categorically, and abundantly clear by now - that I have no ties with the Peppermint Apes whatsoever. Like everybody else on here I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing when I found them. It’s like, fuck me, if they’ve ever seen Spinal Tap, they certainly can’t have understood why people found it funny.
Leaving aside the heaving bulk of pretty harsh non-musical comments though, I think that JeremyDysonsFace absolutely nailed it with “vapid, vacuous, soulless shit”. I can’t really think of a better way to describe the music of the Peppermint Apes than that.
Nevertheless, again, amazing stuff all round.
(Finally... you’ve no idea how much pleasure I’ve derived from typing ‘Hi GASHWRECKER’ again and again... and I’d also like to offer a modest haul of kudos to the DiSer who used the ‘dontrealiseitsajoke’ pseudonym. T'was a good effort, son. I was desperate for Colin/Clive to fall for it but just couldn’t allow it happen. I actually think this is all quite harsh. I read as much as i could before deciding that even the nice comments are only here to take the piss aswell. Very clever.
I saw these guys on Saturday at the cazfest festival - which is a charity event with some big names before you start taking the piss again - and i thought they were pretty great. Yes i know they are not the best band in the world but i was surprised they are not signed. People - myself included - enjoyed it for what it was. A good time band playing good time music and thats what it should be. There are too many chinstrokers on sites like this with no idea about the real world. Do you really think people care?

See this is exactly what i meant. It doesn't matter what anybody says because you and your vice magazine reading friends will get together and poke holes in everything. I bet you have a moustache aswell and maybe a really aggressive haircut. Not everything has to be in tight jeans and say Japandroid on the cover. If this really is The Peppermint Apes then I can hardly believe what I'm reading. Do you seriously expect this thread to be taken down because it's critical of the band and is satirical in nature? If you want to make it big guys then you're going to have to learn to live with criticism. The guy who made the Twitter account pretending to be you was probably taking things a little bit too far but there's nothing libelous in this thread and I think you'll find everyone here agrees.
Protip: Spend more time trying to make decent music and less time attempting to throw your 'legal' muscle around.

EXCITING NEWS!
Since the ‘accidental’ formation of the band THE PEPPERMINT APES by RYAN STANTON in 2008 it has been a rollercoaster of a ride for the last 5 years.
As a project it has been fantastic and the good times have far outweighed the not so good, however, Ryan and the management team of The Peppermint Apes now feel it is time for change.
This is not as devastating as it may appear, Ryan will still be writing the fantastic songs that we have all grown to love but now will have a resident ‘house band’ backing him, along with other great musicians that he will work with from time to time.
We have decided to simply call the new project Ryan S, and so all the social media sites will reflect this change along with a new website.
We want this project to be about the songs, and the fantastic song writing skills of Ryan Stanton, although he will collaborate from time to time with other like minded songsmiths, rather than about personalities within the band, this is where the strength always was, the songs, and this legacy from the band will continue with Ryan S.
We are pleased to announce that the recent theme song to Sadie Kayes new TV show, Miss Adventure has been published by 4Real Records, they are also re-mastering Ryan’s original song Miracle to Me and both will be available shortly on iTunes – Ryan is very much looking forward to working with Terry Scully, 4 Real Records and Joustwise publishing into the future and wants to thank Terry for his continued support
Ryan S will shortly be releasing some new songs which will be on free download on the Facebook page
We thank everyone who has helped on our journey, and what a journey its been! We hope that you will continue to support Ryan and his music and look forward to seeing some of you at a gig or festival soon
