YAY Perfume Genius!
I love them so much.
-
I'm more surprised to see Menomena back together
Some good additions there.
Jordan_229_2 this'd this -
that's a brilliant line-up
not sure its worth the price of a ticket, but lots of bands i'd love to see.
-
They never split up, but Brent Knopf left, so it's not quite the same band
As Menomena put it: "We lost a major creative force in Brent, but thankfully, Brent’s not Kurt Cobain, and we’re not Nirvana. Brent’s more like Peter Gabriel and we’re more like Genesis. And everyone knows how much better Genesis got after that talentless hack Gabriel quit. Waitaminute…"
Hopefully they will still be amazing without him.
-
A couple of friends missed out on a 2 berth so are looking for people to potentially fill a 3 or 4 berth.
Early days etc but if anyone's lacking in friends/doesn't want to splash out needlessly and would be vaguely interested throw me a PM.
-
(I think I know about 4 of these people)
But then, I did at Shellac's weekend too and it was the BEST ONE EVER.
silverfoxqpr this'd this -
such an amazing lineup
such a pisser that it's during exam time and I won't get my schedule until October
-
Not really trolling here, but do people *really* think that's a great line-up?
Or, more pertinently, a line-up worht £200?
I know it's not to my taste, and I can account for that, but 80% of those bands are £6-12 on a Tuesday night at the Lexington calibre.
It's just... not good enough really. Or, which is more frustrating, it's not as good as it could/should be.
-
im still not convinced
im going to wait til nearer the end of the year and see who else is added, a couple of good adds there though.
-
So who are the headliners?
I went to NBC last year where Les Savy Fav, Battles & Caribou headlined, will it be a similar thing to that or was that just because there were 3 headliners?
-
nah this year its the national doing it all
with ATPs help
-
Then I could understand it a bit. He's definitely headliner-level.
But he hasn't been announced yet, so we wait and see. Hope he plays a London show if he is over here for it though.
-
Sweet
Will they be playing 2 shows (like the previous headliners)?
-
If I could see Nico Muhly, Owen Pallet, Kronos Quartet and
Richard Reed Parry for £12 each down the Lexington I'd be delighted.
This is basically my fantasy ATP line up.
I'm suprised St Vincent and Clogs aren't on there though.
-
This is going to be a clashtastic nightmare
I'm going to start preparing for the misery now.
thephotobooth this'd this -
For me, it's pretty rare to get all this kind of stuff together.
Good selection of modern classical ( and of The National ) is why I'm going...I couldn't a fuck about the others.
Bitters_And_Absolut this'd this -
Yeah, I had my fingers crossed for St Vincent
Although Jamie says big names to come, so we can still hope.
-
They jus said this on facebook:
one other show for 2012 in London around the same week in december as ATP. to be announced eventually....
-
SoTL
alone makes this unmissable.
Nerdlinger and Ichor this'd this -
Genesis definitely got better after Peter Gabriel left
Before that I didn't really understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual.
-
he was round the corner
the weekend Animal collective curated, thought he'dve fitted in well on that bill.....but he didnt play.
-
Meh
I agree wholly uninspiring - how I yearn for a band I like to be curator. We've had a few years without them - bring back SHELLAC.
The only band I want to see here is Lower Dens and they are playing the Lexy (as someone mentioned) £200 is quite expensive for this sort of line up.
-
Lower Dens' Lexington show sold out 2 months in advance
Next time they'll play somewhere at least 3 or 4 times as big.
-
:D
thank you!
causticwindow this'd this -
Interpol
with the next list of additions please.
Nerdlinger this'd this -
The National mentioned in an interview recently
they were playing twice.
-
Why is it weird?
Given their recent history it sounds like ATP probably need to make a bit of money. Fanatical about Jeff Mangum as people are on here I would put good money on him, Les Savvy Fav, Caribou and Battles struggling to sell out 3 nights at Brixton Academy (15,000 tickets). Which is exactly why it makes sense from their point of view to book The National.
This and the undercard of modern composed music/composers (Muhly, Kronos Quartet, So Percussion etc) plus some more 'mainstream indie' stuff like Antlers and Kurt Vile will make it very attractive for a lot of people.
-
antony & the johnsons + castanets plz
think sufjan will be a stretch budget wise
-
Aye, airtight logic there
I don't like the lineup = 'guaranteed to lose big money'. Would make instant job offer if I ran a forecasting agency.
-
ATP in serious financial trouble
by the end of the year...?
-
why?
this un will sell out
-
I am willing to bet that
Sufjan will play, but it won't be a solo Sufjan show. I bet ATP have asked him to curate before, and he's said no. He'll either play with Clogs or the National, or Shara Worden, or do the planetarium thing with Bryce and Nico. All of which would still be 100% GRATE.
pichaelmarker this'd this -
Where was that?
Wanna read!
-
Do people really think this won't sell out?
I can't afford my ticket until September/October when I start working again. I was thinking it would be sold out by then.
Personally I think the line-up is amazing!
-
Ah I did read that
Thanks!
-
Casual? All my friends who are 'National fans are not casual...
Pozzo makes a good point, just because it isn't DiS doesn't mean it won't work well.
-
Desperately want this
Saw SOTL at Explosions in the Sky's ATP, and they were unbelievably stunning. Want a full set! A Winged Victory for the Sullen earlier this year was just gorgeous beyond words.
Union Chapel ahoy!
-
So...
There isn't going to be another NMBC it seems?
-
no
they said months ago that this was the only one
-
what, this year, or ever?
ATP have definitely said a few times that there won't be a second event in december 2012.
or do you mean that they're now going to stop doing stuff at butlins altogether?
-
noticed a couple of days ago
that all the ticket links for the national atp seem to have vanished from their website and from gigantic and seetickets.
no reason given for the melvin's primavera atp stage cancellation either - probabaly the most expensive band on their stage?
bit worrying :S
-
Are the Melvins that expensive?
They were playing tiny venues this week, as was the case when they were over here last year.
-
Doubt the Melvins cancellation much to do with cash
probably logistics... don't really know how festivals are organised, but I'd assume that Primavera pays the bands, not ATP... the quiet withdrawal of the National tickets from sale really, really doesn't look good though, seem weird if a computer glitch was withdrawing them from sale across the board and I can't imagine they'd voluntarily withdraw them from sale for any reason other than it not happening that weekend...
-
ooer
https://twitter.com/Primavera_Sound/status/208599552725487616
So no Melvins OR Sleep at Primavera! Would've been gutted if i'd been there.
-
As seen on twitter (thanks @ricey80)
http://www.bigweekends.com/your-break/92946
Butlins are advertising a 'school reunion' on the weekend ATP was supposed to be. :(((((((
-
Bloody hell
Odds of a transparent explanation from ATP are pretty much nul, but now that the cat's out of the bag they need to at least get off their skates and acknowledge this is happening...
-
Check out the 'how to get there' section
on the website. Looks like it might be moving.
-
Details being revised, check back soon
Hmmmmm. Might it just be a different Butlins site? Probably not. Intriguing.
-
Ooer,
doesn't look good. Maybe the poor sales for IBYM did them in financially.
-
No mention of Butlins at all on the site now.
Perhaps it is going to be in Maplins instead.
(no one under the age of 35 is going to get that reference).
-
CAMBER!
(0ne can hope, it has been refurbished)
umlaut_ampersand this'd this -
AfraidOfOwls this'd this
-
Well if they are moving it, I assume nobody has booked travel this far in advance
Would be great if they shifted it back to Camber Sands, have they finished renovating it there yet?
-
that's actually quite hopeful then
can't imagine they'd have gone to that trouble if they were going to cancel, fact the dates are still there as well suggests it's on...
DaisyFlower this'd this -
TheWza this'd this
-
Yeah, I'd be quite happy if it was at Camber
But I can't think of reason why they'd need to move. Presumably the Butlins sites are all around the same size? Or is Camber smaller?
-
Oh, I see the Camber Sands site is owned by Pontins
Maybe Butlins have kicked them out but Pontins are prepared to give them another go. Total speculation obv.
-
They really oughtta be a bit more up front.
If it's moving site, not expecting a full confirmation of exact changes. If it's cancelled, not expecting in depth details about refunds. But it seems that something is pretty much definitely happening seeing as there's some Butlin's replacement event de ja vu, and rumour and speculation is only gonna build from this point on. So saying /something/ sooner rather than later (or almost not at all, in the case of Mangum) is pretty much essential, I'd have thought.
Not that I'm going. But this kind of uncertainty makes me less likely to commit to any possible future ATP events as far in advance as I usually would - and if that's a feeling that I'm not alone in having, it'll only make things worse for 'em.
justanothersheeldz this'd this -
I think its owned by Britainna now
Pontins went bust didn't they?
-
oh yeah!
I think I might've watched that a couple of times once
-
just hope it's not Ally Pally
or some other lame assed retreat to London
-
Oh, I remember hearing something about that
but it seems whoever bought them out continued running the name: http://www.pontins.com/holiday-parks/camber-sands-holiday-park/
-
Just tried to book a weekend break at Camber Sands
for the weekend of the 7th of December and the website is saying 'no availability', but pretty much every date up to then is available.
-
They'd have to give out some pretty big refunds if that was the case
given the amount of the ticket cost that goes on chalets.
-
OOooh
I bet that's it then. Good detective work.
-
^this
Camber capacity is about 2,800, I think. Minehead was up near 6,000, all told.
-
Who ever wrote it...
Loves this thread.
-
Could be reading too much into this
but it still promises a sandy beach in the "what else is there to do" bit. And no swimming pool. CAMBER! CAMBER! CAMBER!
-
Can definitely remember watching You Rang M'Lord
different generation innit!
-
well
Sleep canceled because of the guitarist having a brain anyerusm
-
good old fakediy, first on the scene with any vague rumour
tbh unless Camber has been brought up to Butlins quality (ie, no more sofa beds, no more shower/cooker switches, eight berth chalets that are actually big enough for eight people, a layout that means you can sleep at least a little bit at night, essentially totally raised to the ground and rebuilt) a switchback there would probably be it for me and ATP. sigh :(
-
Apparently it's all been refurbished
But this http://www.pontins.com/holiday-parks/camber-sands-holiday-park/accommodation/ doesn't fill me with confidence - it still has sofabeds, you have to buy a card to work the electricity, and it sounds like the cheaper chalets don't even have bed linen included.
-
:(
I thought it was fine when I went there and I think there were at least seven people in our chalet. I would quite like to go back for a change. That actually might sway me towards this one when I would have probably given it a miss otherwise. That can't be what they're banking on can it though
-
thanks DF
mmm, each to their own, I know Camber has fans, I just HATED it there. the little squares between the chalets are really nice during the day but so noisy at night, and I just don't have a good time unless I can get at least some sleep every night.
(and also I really don't like the main venue there)
-
yeah I do remember the main venue being mad hot
I think we must've been about as far back from the action as poss cos I don't remember any sleeping probs at all.
-
we had batshit americans taking loads of drugs
and staying up all night singing along to the Cure and Paul Simon and just SHUT UP
that Pitchfork weekend was crazy for heat. barely saw anyone in the small venue because it was so crowded and overheated all the time, and I find with the upstairs venue I get nothing out of watching anyone there unless I'm near the front, and in that heat oh maaaaan
-
Genuinely the hottest I have ever been in my life
But I had a great weekend despite it. Maybe it led to me seeing only one band on the Sunday, though...
-
I was in the small venue most of the weekend
I was ok but I do remember a barman going nuts (poss cos of the heat) and smashing pint glasses behind the bar. So fair enough.
It was probably the actual Pitchfork people that wouldn't shut up. A-holes
-
I guess it won't be like that in December though
and it might be too cold for people to hang out in the squares being noisy.
-
also that's the other thing
Butlins was grim enough in December, but that place? OH OH
-
they were fucking mentals, man
one of them had some kind of ruggedised sound system you'd use if camping in the mountains, and every morning he'd go outside at 6am and dance on the grass, either to You Can Call Me Al or Ready for the Floor.
-
Oh oh indeed
But I've already bought my ticket so if it does turn out to be there, I want to be able to convince myself I'm still looking forward to it...
-
as with the one last year it's during my December exam period
and my schedule doesn't get issued until October, so I've not even really thought about it much luckily. I was going to try and put aside some money for it to make a last-minute decision..
-
Well, at the moment I have a spare chalet space
If it's still spare come October, and you decide you want to go, you're welcome to it. Sounds like you probably won't want to though!
-
A move to camber would be awesome
So much better than Minehead
And I'm pretty sure they'd give us free bed linen for this... Y'know, since it's us. -
hope it moves to Pontins of Lowestoft
DaddyorChips and wilbur this'd this -
i honestly fail to see how ATP could be financially in trouble...
when they've got thousands of needy melts paying a fortune for events every couple of months.
-
You haven't been following their ticket sales...
...very closely, have you?
-
Somebody's posted an email from Butlins on the Facebook event page...
Apparently ATP hadn't booked the venue for that weekend...
-
Whoa
Seems pretty irresponsible of ATP to have sold tickets without booking the venue.
DaddyorChips this'd this -
actual what the fuck
either this a fake or there must have been some kind of massive breakdown in communication here or something
-
I'd be surprised if someone had bothered to fake that
I wonder if they suspected ticket sales would be down and waited to see how they went before booking somewhere. Seems like a pretty shady thing to do, if that is the case.
-
one thought
didn't camber have very few 2 berths in comparison to minehead?
-
PLEASE can they just move it up north
a location in the middle of the country would surely make much more sense??
-
I think so
It appears from the Pontins website that the majority are 4 beds with some going up to 8. I wonder what they'll do if they've sold too many 2 beds.
-
well 2 berths sold out didnt they?
im pretty sure they're always the first to.
voluntary pair-up? when i went to ATP mars volta i did that chalet share thing and ended up fine.
-
You really think this is a shoe-in for Camber
and they aren't just going bust on Weds when the wolrd wakes up from a Jubilee fug? I want you all to be right, but there is so much pointing at the end.
-
no i dont think its a shoe in
but a lot of people seem to be suggesting it
-
Keri? Alfred?
not sure i believe it
-
This all came to light less than 24hours ago, at 10pm on a Sunday evening over a bank holiday weekend,
during which ATP are running a stage at Primavera.
I don't think it's unreasonable for them to have not come out and made a statement just yet.
JimmyHuntspill and joeymahone this'd this -
they still had the spare time to contact ticket sellers, change the posts on their site etc. wouldn't be out of order for them to put a bland press release on their site saying 'blah blah there are some issues regarding the location of the festival blah blah'
-
It's far better for them to announce a replacement date or venue,
rather than just a vague 'yeah, it might not be happening' statement.
If they're still confirming details, they might not be able to make a full release,
guntrip this'd this -
all of the chalets at Camber involve sofa beds
had an eight bed at Pitchfork, assumed it would be a decent size like the Minehead ones. nope - two rooms with three beds, sofa bed in the front room.
one of the many reasons I h8 Camber.
-
To be fair I have been predicting their demise
completely incorrectly for years, but is not looking good right now. This would be the third shambles in a very short time, AND they still haven't filed their accounts (now prison-threateningly overdue) so is hard to see this too positively.
-
I contacted ATP last night and got an email saying a response was coming
I think it's pretty terrible that they haven't issued it today, bank holiday or not.
-
i don't see any reason why a vague release about them still looking for a replacement venue would be problematic. at least then people wouldn't send emails to Butlins and find out how much they cocked up
-
.
Announement here, we're moving to Camber: http://www.atpfestival.com/events/thenational.php
The weekend at Minehead was confirmed by Butlins before we went on sale as it always is, which is why there's been nothing else advertised on that weekend on the Butlins website until the last day or two when they've suddenly put up that new skool reunion thing. This move is nothing to do with ticket sales which are very healthy for 6+ months out.
Butlins ordered us to remove all reference to their location or company and to take tickets off sale - but unfortunately decided to announce their other event before we had time to get all the necessary approvals from agents, bands managements etc regarding the move announcement - obviously this is not helped by the bank holiday.
We're sorry about the worry but have been working non stop to get this all finalised as soon as possible, and hopefully the fact that we're using the same dates and its so far off time-wise mean very few people will be negatively affected.
Juninho10 this'd this -
Thanks for the confirmation
If it's just happened, I realise you might not be able to answer questions right away, but given that Camber is smaller than Minehead, can you confirm that there are enough two bed chalets for everyone who's booked one so far?
-
Yes, I believe some people
will just have a slightly bigger chalet - we will work it all out and no original bookings will be negatively affected. There are also a lot of new chalets at Camber now so it can be arranged fairly easily.
Again we're really sorry if people were worried - but we had a bunch of factors working against us these last few days and have been working non stop to sort it.
-
Cool, no one will complain about having a bigger chalet
I just wanted to check people weren't going to be made to share with people they hadn't booked with.
There was a bit of worry last night, but as soon as Juninho10 found out that Camber wasn't taking new custom that weekend, I think we were pretty much all convinced it was moving there. Panic averted!
-
camber is great news regardless of the circumstances
why are butlins lying about it not being booked if it was? seems abit weird
-
I really don't think that there are necessarily more people down south who would want to go to ATP..
if it was on the North West or East coast then it would be easier for people from Scotland, Manchester/Liverpool, the Midlands, Yorkshire, North Wales and the North East to attend, than it would for them to attend either the Minehead or Camber Sands locations. And people from the London area would still be able to travel to the new location for much cheaper than it would cost for someone from Scotland or the North West to travel to fucking Minehead.
This is not a North vs. South thing. It's simply that having the festival exclusively down south is extremely unfair to music fans in the rest of the country.
domgourlay this'd this -
not sure, we could easily provide
emails from them showing the opposite - very strange.
sister-ray this'd this -
might be a good idea if you want people to know for sure atp didnt drop the ball, what is there position out of interest, just decided the other weekender was more profitable, wasnt there a contract in place?
-
Doesn't this mean that there won't be anymore bands announced though?
Since there are only two stages at the Camber Sands one?
-
i guess it being smaller
means there will be less revenue so less bands in total anyway? So maybe that'll be another reason for no more/fewer additional bands?
[/speculation]
-
Camber
Really had a great time at Camber in the past.
Some of the reasons I love it are the reasons others don't.
I enjoy the layout of the chalets and think it encourages mixing between people more - although maybe not in winter.
I do remember the Pitchfork weekend being horribly warm though.
I'd be lying if I said I hadn't grown to love some of the features at Minehead though. At Mangum they did away with using the main pavilion as a stage, I think that made a big difference to atmosphere.
I've really grown to love the little shops, crazy horse, reds, the smoking area outside reds, the beach, the distance to morrisons and tesco, the cinema, the crazy golf and the bookies.
Camber has a great atmosphere but lacks in facilities. I'm sure it'll still be great though.
Now we just need to go full circle and ditch IBYM to bring back a May weekend!
Mnemosene this'd this -
Just checked, it's 3381 according to Pontins
So still fairly small compared to Minehead.
-
At the risk of sounding dumb
...are there tickets still available for this now it's at Camber Sands?

we've got some more to come
including a few nice big artists - we'll just start a bit earlier and end later and fit everyone in!
-
last few hundred

that email was to me...
and isn't a fake, i've offered to email it over to atp if they want a copy. I was only worrried (and a bit drunk) last night so emailed both Butlin's and the ticket agency I bought tickets from to see if they would respond. God knows who Arthur is.

TheWza this'd this

I'm not taking a north v south position here, I live in Edinburgh
but over 10% of the country's population live in London alone, and it jumps far higher if you include the south as a whole. add in that London is also the hub of the country's railway network and fares in and out of it are substantially cheaper than fares between other places, and you can see why things happen there.
-
incidentally it cost me very little to travel to Mangum from Edinburgh
far less than it's costing me to travel to Derby for Indietracks.
-
SHIT!
I was going to get tickets on pay day :( Now it's going to sell out before I get paid!! Which is aggravating because Camber Sands has SUCH an awesome atmosphere especially compared to the luke warm atmos found at Butlins

I really fancy this now, especially as it's so close to London
I have no friends so i'll be able to grab a ticket for someone else's chalet closer to the time. Bonus!

You already got a ticket
think Gar and Clar want to come and we need to focus on getting a bigger challet realistically
I cant wait to run out of money & buy special brew at the costcutters
-
Nah I can't afford that kind of luxury
I'll wait for someone to flake out on someone and pick up a half price ticket nearer the time.
Lets go to the beach with a bottle of £2.50 rosé!
-
So I should worry not?
All things are well?
-
It'll be better then Minehead by default
unless the have more places to hang then the pub/night club and kids playground now
-
what a load of old tripe!
i'm very pleased that the large majority of people here are happy with ATP going back "home" to camber. however please spare a thought for the unfortunate and stupid people who aren't lucky enough to live near london and also who have already made time to be in/and or travel to minehead for that weekend.
on one side you've got butlins saying that ATP NEVER EVEN BOOKED THE SLOT and then you've got ATP claiming that butlins cancelled on them.(in which case, i really hope they'll be filing a lawsuit for breach of contract. if there was a contract) would be good to get some clarification on this. after the palava from last time, i think i know who i'd believe.
if there's any clairification jamie, would be good to see it. and btw, was there any official reason for the rescheduled jeff magnum atp? that's in advance.
-
Is just nonsense.
I love the cheery way they move the festival 250 miles to a site with way worse facilities and try and make it sound positive. Butlins obviously ditched them for some reason (an unpaid bill or something), Camber obviously happier to take a chance as their smaller site will sell out easier, and it is no doubt way cheaper to hire.
You just can't keep moving sites and dates of everything, is ridiculous.
Also, don't really want to get into the Minehead v Camber thing, but people only prefer Camber because it is nearer to London. It's like how people from London make out Brighton has the best beach in the world.
-
Rail tickets only go on sale three months in advance
So no one will have booked a train to Minehead yet. I don't think many plans will be particularly screwed.
I agree it would be interesting to find out what happened with Butlins, though.
-
People who made time to be in Minehead?
You're aware it's happening on the same weekend, right? They also gave you 6 (six) months notice that they'd be moving. Really don't see the beef here.
-
Having been to both sites I can assure you the atmosphere is infinatly better at Camber
it felt more like a party with more parties as a result... you don't feel as detached from the festival experience when you aren't watching bands. You never feel like you're in a mall showcasing bands
-
Assure me all you like
I have been to both too and massively prefer Minehead. Centre Stage is pretty much my favourite place to watch a band, anywhere. Plus lazy river.
unicronn this'd this -
Camber may have worse facilities and you may prefer mine head
But based on most threads and most people I know who have been to both camber is preferred by the majority, obviously can't know for sure without a proper survey or something but that is certainly the impression I get and it is way more to do with atmosphere than proximity to London
I do think they need to give a proper explanation especially as the magnum statement turned out to be pretty misleading
-
Anyway it's not about Camber vs Minehead
It's about announcing things, then changing them, then blaming everyone else.
-
its not about train travel
i live just outside of exeter so could quite easily and quickly travel there.
also it means i dont have to take any time off worknow i have to fork out petrol or train costs down. defeating one of the main attractions i wanted to go in th first place
not good enough im afraid. still life goes on. line up is still great.
would be good to get clarifiaction from jamie /atp too. thanks

mmmmmm
i feel shafted. wish some one could clarify... would make feel a little better and perhaps salvage the last remnants of respect i had for ATP
-
it is a bit irritating as minehead is very close to home
and that was a definitely plus when booking tickets. now i am looking at a 5 1/2 hour drive instead of an 1 1/2 one which will mean more time off work and significantly more petrol money.
to be honest though, i'd still have booked tickets for camber sands as the line-up looks amazing. i'm just concerned that it isn't going to happen...atp have lost a lot of goodwill recently and it doesn't bode well - the mixed messages from butlins seem pretty odd (if they are real that is, although i can't see why they would have any reason to lie about it, they have nothing to lose, unless its a grubby little atp bashing troll having some fun), in addition to what happened with the jeff magnum one. i hope it goes ahead though and it must be an absolute fucking nightmare for the atp team, good luck to them.
unicronn this'd this -
Bit embarassed
for the couple of sad acts in this thread absolutely creaming themselves to have a pop at ATP, particularly as I would guess they're not even going. Have a word with yourselves.
-
who cares?
it's back at camber!and i for one care about ATP Continuing.would be a very boring life without this to look forward to a couple times a year
-
well
i dont think any thing said has been unreasonable. do you?
not flaming or trolling here at all. sorry if its come across that way. just want some answers. not too much to ask for is it? especially with the mixed messages coming out from both parties.
kind regardsoh and yes i have tickets thank you very much
-
jesus
what do you want them to do?......
-
read above
i am geniunely gutted... dont understand the hostility.
-
do you really think the people at ATP
go out of their way to piss people off????
-
The main thing that concerns me
about Camber is the inadequate, cramped facilities. I recall at the 2005 Slint ATP that the downstairs room could only squeeze a couple of hundred of people in to watch Joanna Newsom. There was nothing else on at the time which meant a couple of thousand people unable to watch anything.
Minehead is a big step up in facilities too (it meant that me and my misses didn't have to sleep on the sofa in the living room any more) so I'm really disappointed at the venue change.
Saying that, it'll be nice to go back to Camber again. I'm booking my tickets on Thursday.
-
I am probably in this group, im not going (though might now it is in camber), whilst I enjoy their festivals and gigs in my experience a few things have led me to believe they arent particularly great when it comes to the customer.
They may have entirely understandable reasons for what happened, but given what happened with the jeff magnum one where what they said was evasive and tried to imply fault elsewhere which turned out not to be true, that people would want more info, and again a bit more than its a long time away so it doesnt matter.
Others may find it embarassing that some think atp is a sacred cow, but when it comes to customer service your own opinion only has validity for yourself
myslumberingheart and unicronn this'd this -
please relax
no of course not but surely there has to be some accountability if they screwed up And didnt book the weekend as per butlins claiming in that email. i have yet to see any email correspondence from atp to butlins to make me believe otherwise. or a valid reason why its been moved... just want some truth, thats all. some one to explain rather than apologise with no reason or expanation.
on a personal sense, the reason im annoyed to make you understand where im oming from... i have to probably cancel a weekend to visit parents now at the end of october. already have planned a trip to vietnam and booked the holiday at work so cant change this and will definitely need to take the friday and monday from work. does any one know much train tickets will be? well gotta start looking at alternatives i guess
on a positive note, listening to boxer now. incredible record! cant wait to finally see them! and thanks atp for putting these events on. always have fun and meet great people. although i do prefer the minehead location ;) the upstairs centre stage is probably my fave venue full stop. perfect sound every time.
kind regards
-
i care about atp very much
i love their events and have had a brilliant time at every one i've been to.
for personal reasons (which i think are fairly easy to understand), i am slightly irritated by the change as it is going to be a hell of a lot more difficult for me to get to, its pretty much the other side of the country. having said that, i'm glad its managed to move location rather than be cancelled and i'm really looking forward to it.
it must be an incredibly stressful situation for the atp team to deal with - i genuinely wish them the best and hope it manages to go ahead.
-
hate the game not the player.
i prefer trains, all things being fair and equal.
i'm always told to book well ahead to get the best train prices. "trains are cheaper than coaches if you book properly in advance", they say.
q: i see cheap flights, but where my cheap trains at?
a: there are twenty-three tickets that will be made available, at a time not published in advance, at an undisclosed time, bookable only in person, paying with a maestro card, from selected stations. hyperbole, of course. but you get my point. and it stands
-
Regardless...
Of whether I've looked as soon as tickets go on sale or a few das before, return train fare from Glasgow to Taunton has never been under 150 quid.
Internal flights may be decadent but when Easyjet fly £30 return to Bristol there's no sensible option but to fly.
-
Is it as bad as Watchdog makes out??
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2010/09/staycations.html
What are the venues like? Capacity/layout?
Also, is this the end of weird head massages and bizarre hot dog smells while watching bands? -
A sad day for me.
Just got paid and was going to get tickets for this. I'd love to go back to camber again purely for nostalgic reasons, though i'm not sure whether people who have only known the butlins site are going to feel the same way when they arrive. The reason i'm sad is that it means no more ATP for me. It's a purely personal perspective I know but as a teacher the travel would mean missing most of friday and sunday. I was fortunate that atp moved to the west country in the same year that i did. Back when it started, it was atp to watch the bands i love and then V or Reading for a weekend's fun with my wider friendship groups. Nowadays there are loads of alternatives - eotr, green man, bloc, field day and therein lies atp's greatest problem.
thorpey75 this'd this -
The hot dog smells were far worse at camber
I stopped noticing it by the time it moved to butlins.
-
One more thing - in defence of ATP
I've had more than my fair share of pops at ATP in the past and with recent events it is hard to argue that they are not in some kind of trouble. However festivals get cancelled all the time, usually more than one a year. To ATP's credit they have made efforts to ensure the show goes on every time, this particular compromise even seems to have pleased some people. A few years with one festival, at ATP's original home could be very exciting. Watch the ATP film, there's just so much more affection for the early festivals. I wish i could be there.
-
yes but Mineheads ATPs happened a fair distance from London
and when the capacity of the festival is considered, there is really no reason that London having a bigger population than anywhere else should make any difference to where to festival is held. It would sell just as well if it was held in the North West or Yorkshire. I'm not arguing against everything happening in the south, i'm arguing specifically against ATP happening in the south. It's just needless.
-
Not a sacred cow
But I think there are a lot more deserving targets to sling your mud at on the internet. It's the melodrama which is the most embarrassing thing.
You've bought a ticket to a music festival (well you haven't, but whatever) Said festival has announced a location change 6 months (i.e., 3 months before train tickets for those dates go on sale) beforehand. How does it follow that the festival organizers are obliged to post the reasons for the decision onto a messageboard to satiate your curiosity? The general reasons for the move pretty obvious if you read between the lines a tiny bit. What do you want, their accounts posted on DiS to enhance your customer experience?
If you want total homogeneity, then Reading Festival has been at the same location, on the same weekend, for pretty well the last 40 years. It's also run by Festival Republic, a subsidiary of Live Nation, in turn a spin-off of Clear Channel, one of the biggest media buying companies in the world, meaning it could probably run at a loss for a decade and still be at the same location, on the same weekend. Mind you, they don't hire a lad to try to do PR on the internet (they don't need to, they've already got you saying things like 'when it comes to the customer') who you can direct your passive aggression at, so maybe not...
-
I think melodramatic and passive aggressive are abit over the top, and reading festival is not even comparable. I just think given the jeff magnum one where they weren't upfront which did turn out to be for financial reasons , that they could rebuild trust with abit more detail this time. I can't read between the lines as ATP and butlins are saying the opposite (i do believe jamie i just think it would be good to see that it was butlins fault this time)
Trust is important, it costs a lot of money which you won't get back if it goes under so if it is just a mix up it would be good to know to be able to buy with confidence. My main objection is when people who don't see any problem think that their opinion should apply to everyone, I'm not trying to convince anyone just explaining why I don't find it satisfactory, when it comes to things like this I don't see how anyone else's opinions are valid over your own and find people are quite dismissive and disrespectful -
That passive aggressive line really bugged me, if you look at my one reply to him you will see it was very polite and reasonable. But feel free to imagine me any way you want if it suits your argument better
-
This is a very good point
Despite everything they have managed to keep putting on stellar events in the face of what looks like horrendously stressful conditions. Poor customer relations or not, the actual events are always fantastic.
I agree they deserve a big chunk of credit for that.

Does anyone know the chalet sizes that will go on sale tomorrow?
I seem to be one of the few who doesn't get a response on the atp facebook page from atp!
-
scrap that
they've just replied to a message.
-
not setting it up myself but
its likely to be 4-6 berths available as the 2s, 3s and 7s are long gone.
-
Thanks Jamie.
I assume you were the one who replied to me.
-
Thissity this
ATP - if I have had my differences with you in the past (and indeed, if I have them again in the future (eg I do not expect foam sofa beds in exchange for the decently-appointed chalet I paid for at Minehead)), I am still your fag.
You made this beautiful thing. And insodoing you have given us all the awesomest of memories and basically the best festivals in the muthagrabbing world.
But, yeh. Foam mattresses. I double dare you.
-
tickets appear to be sold out
oh dear.
is there another site other than Gigantic selling them?
-
no only that one
At the moment the ones we put up all seem to be in peoples shopping baskets - its possible if people let those expire then they will go back up so its worth keeping an eye on the site over the next hour or so. We will probably have a small amount of refunds due to the venue change, in which case we may also have some more chalets back on sale at a future date.
-
you see Jamie, that would be great
but only when a chalet does go back on sale, you can actually then proceed with the order despite instantly clicking on continue instead of it saying 'we don't have that ticket option' despite there being no sold out sign. Bah! I realise thats gigantics fault and not atps.
-
I think if you've spent £180 on a ticket for something and it turns out to be happening 246 miles away from the original location,
it's reasonable to expect some sort of explanation as to what went wrong.
fellover this'd this -
Hey Jamie
I managed to get to the payment page, put card details in and then it came up with an error. When I went back to start again it was sold out. I've just checked my online account and seems money has been taken, can you look into this for me please? Man, if it went through ok I'll go nuts. Email was droog75@hotmail.com.
-
Is it all sold out?
That's incredibly gutting. I was on the site at 10am and have been hitting reload since. Was thinking of buying tickets weeks ago but held off as I figured there was plenty of time. Bummer.
-
seems the switch has made people a lot more interested
ope i can find a chalet space

you guys couldn't wait, just couldn't wait another week to put them up on sale :( Thought I had lots of time to get them a couple days ago (well within a month) and now it's all gone :(

Exactly.
I could sell out my upcoming birthday drinks at Wembley Stadium if I relocated them to my toilet.

Finally got enough people to confirm they wanted to go just before the tickets went off sale, and then they sold out in about 3 minutes this morning. Balls :-(
Yesiamaduck and Woodchuck this'd this -
If you post your account number, sort code and mother's maiden name on here too,
i'm sure I could help.
-
It's probably been earmarked and won't be taken by ATP
it'll most likely return to your balance within the next 5 working days. The is nothing either the bank or ATP can really do
-
The bank may be able to offer an emergency overdraft if needed
(which is a temporary overdraft) if you need the money
-
Cheers dude
Just spoke to Gigantic and it was what you said, payment was refused and money won't be taken. Fucking fuming
-
I actually have a 2 berth chalet for this.
Wasn't really that fussed, and think it's time to cash in a bit now the venue's changed and demand has outstripped supply. Anyone want to make an offer? Happy to do it by PM if you'd prefer.

Additions today!
"Wild Beasts performing ‘Smother’, The Philistines JR, Pedro Soler & Gaspar Claus and Ethan Lipton’s ‘No Place To Go’ added!"

Wild Beasts perform the songs from Smother anyway
Y'know, what with it being their current album and all.

A fantastic album but an odd this to do.
Still <3 Wild Beasts -
guess maybe the National are fans of the recod and just asked them to
does seem a bit strange

the Ethan Lipton thing sounds really good

Yeah bit strange.
They usually play 7 out of the 10 songs on Smother. Will be nice to see Invisible live though as they rarely play that.
-
The Philistines JR?!?!?!
That was unexpected. There'd better be a London show.
-
Worried again
We paid by deposit scheme, final payment due by 30th, and we've received an email today saying, actually don't send any money because of an office move.
Hope I'm not reading too much into it. Bands still being confirmed gives me confidence.
-
Hey
We have indeed been moving office this week plus also some issues going on with our Paypal account, but nothing to worry about. You'll get more info soon.

I emailed for the waiting list the other day, no reply or anything though, am I meant to have received an auto-reply?

Paypal issues so we can't use it right now, if you need any official confirmation/reassurance that the email you got is valid feel free to forward it to me at jamie@atpfestival.com

how are people getting there?
the "go dutch" deals ATP link to on their site seem good from London, although sold out. Seems quite easy to request another one though. http://www.wecangodutch.com/deal/coach-atp-curated-national-liverpool-street-london
-
they have added another coach
in case anyone wants to get one - myself and some friends are keen to, but it will only run if there's enough people.
Cheaper than the train, and direct to the festival so get on it if you're yet to organise transport http://www.wecangodutch.com/deal/coach-atp-curated-national-kings-cross-london

Will probably get involved with this
Hopefully can fill it!

Anyone need a lift from Manchester?
Might have a space or two in our car...
-
*sigh* I would love to go to this, but none of my mates are going
I never get to have any fun anymore :(
-
So did everyone else get the email about them releasing extra tickets
or was it just people in 2 berth chalets?
Does it mean they're just gonna start chucking random people in chalets or are they desperately trying to grab some extra money at the last minute?
Jamie?
-
usually happens around now
when they get the final production numbers in, how many crew etc will be coming.

The tweets from ATP sound pretty bleak
Lack of plug sockets
Freezing chalets
grim surrounding (one person described the place as a gulag)Can't wait until next weekend.
