Vinyl sales up 50% at Record Store Day 2012
Blimey!? http://www.thecmuwebsite.com/article/record-store-day-reports-boom-in-sales/
I wonder if that's the volume of sales or the revenue generated? Seem to be quite a few people grumbling about the inflated prices...

its all vinyl so should just be "sales up by 50%" ?
plus i know the cost prices shops have for each release and some of it to which they retail at are scandalous
-
but it has been quite big most years
to be half as big as it was last year, seems quite a jump.

Nah, it includes flooring.

I think they should rethink.
Record store day should be celebrating indie record shops, how friendly they are, and knowledgeable etc. Instead it seems to have become a day where people queue up and grab limited edition 7" records, that is hardly going to persuade the man off the street into the shop, it will probably turn him off.

There was an interesting post by Laura Snapes about this:

I've been ranting along similar lines for ages about RSD on these boards. Laura makes the case perfectly. For my views please read that...
ps Sean, I'd love to see a DiS interview with Spencer from Rough Trade giving his views on this, maybe a response to Laura's blog?

my take on it is...
that the major labels, particularly Universal, have had a look at RSD and thought 'easy money'.
Arcade Fire 12" at Sister Ray was £18.99! A remix 12"!
Though I am sure that the shops are placing a good mark-up as well.7"s are getting expensive anyway (Spiritualized 'Hey Jane' was £5.99) but when we get into charging £8 for a 7", that's when I back off...........

Either way
It didn't take long for them to appear on torrent sites. "Record Store Day" is even a tag on one of the well-known members-only sites.

is this surprising?
it's basically been #LimitedEditionVinylDay for the last few years.
