Optimus Primavera Porto
That massive PS12 thread is unmanageable and mostly focused on Barca. This is for Porto bound team.
Press conference in an hour - some new names. If we get the Rapture and Japandroids from Barca I'll be chuffed - line up is already looking incredible value for the 70 euro I paid
- Relevant artist taggings:
- Bjork »[x]
- Explosions In The Sky »[x]
-
I think it'll be a strong lineup
there's no way they won't have managed to convince a bunch of the Barca artists to stay in Europe for an extra week.
-
but this can be the press conference thread.
Praying for Japandroids, The Field, Death Grips and Real Estate from the Primavera lineup.

I would've had them right up there but saw them last November
Stunning live band, whatever you think of them on record.

Really want to go to this
but struggling to find any affordable flights from London given I have to come back on the Sunday.

aye, saw them at supersonic

Not sure how credible this is, but seems pretty legit.
-
I'm going via Madrid - cheaper than straight to Porto
Though think I booked the last cheap Madrid to Porto flights
-
After seeing them at Barca last year, not sure I can be bothered with the flaming lips again
COME ON MOTHERFUCKERS COME ON
lemonbrickcombo this'd this -
Porto doesn't really seem to be geared up for apartments in the way Barca is
We found a good place on airbnb but the owner was fannying around 'Oh my mum might be coming that weekend!' DON'T FUCKING LIST IT THEN!
-
Think I'm going to get the train down from Paris and go through Northern Spain
People have told me I need to go to Bilbao, San Sebastian and Burgos, so seems like a good excuse. I bloody love Madrid though, might try and go that way too.
-
been to Bilbao and burgos
both great places for a day or two.

SAINT ETIENNE
:)
No Refused, Richard Hawley or Wedding Present
:(
-
So there's going to be two stages bang next to each other
and no stages with the sea in the background :(
https://twitter.com/#!/Primavera_Sound/status/169761461323841537/photo/1/large
-
Sort of an odd layout...?
So the two main stages are next to one another? Will they literally have one on - one off running all day? I think reading did that one year and it's always seemed like a great idea to me.
The ATP stage looks like it'll be nice and leafy.
-
That looks lovely
I like the alternating main stage idea. Just hope the sound doesn't bleed too much for the other stages.
-
not bad, but surely there's more to come?
still holding out hope for Japandroids.
-
It was Japandroids and Refused that I was really hoping for.
Now I will have to consider a day ticket to Reading if Refused play there.
-
translated form the official forum..
Jamie said on twitter that next week will announce the remaining bands to Porto

I am selling a ticket for this for under face value.
Hi,
Can't go anymore due to work/friend's plans changing, so if anyone wants a ticket for £75 (paid €105 for it which is about £85 I guess) send us a PM. Selling for slightly under face value as I need to get rid of it.

Bump to counteract the tyranny of the San Miguel Barca edition
WE'VE GOT SUPER BOCK!
Excited, the first day is literally ridiculous
-
Also has anyone got the app?
It's full on top notch
-
damn blackberries for being so shit-
cant install it. anyway the word from the atp people who have been out to the Porto site is that its really mega nice and obviously much more intimate. can't wait to get there.
-
just decided to go to this on a whim a few days ago.
Got a hotel in the centre of porto, but I guess there will be regular busses to the park? Also does anyone know what time the days start etc. I have only been to leeds festival a few times so don't know how much it will differ, which i hope it does alot.
-
Only found out the other day
that Optimus is a Portugese phone company that's sponsoring it. Do you reckon they went with them for the pun oppurtunity?

The xx
John Talabot
Erol AlkanPretty surprised/glad there's not more clashes. Bit gutted about The Walkmen/Beach House, but the latter definitely wins. Line up looks great written down like that too.
-
that's the worst one
though Yo La Tengo and The War On Drugs is a bit of a pisser too. YLT are one of my favourite bands but I've seen them 3 or 4 times and never seen TWOD so it'll be a tough call.
-
Why are The Walkmen on so late?
Can't see The Flaming Lips playing from half 9 till about half 12. They should put The Walkmen on a bit earlier to avoid the clash.
-
the flaming lips have about half an hour between each song
so it could take that long
-
ClashVillle / ClashZilla
War on drugs v Yo La Tengo
Wilco v Shellac
m83 v Thee Oh SeesPlenty of half watched sets ahoy. Last day could have used a bit more oomph too.
-
Can at least watch a bit of YLT then WOD
I don't think the site is going to be massive

Have to say
looking at that line up (once you've taken clashes out of the equation), and considering that there's going to be a lot less people cramming to see that line up, this looks much better than Barcelona this year. Will probably try it next year but knowing my luck they'll probably double the capacity and price! Think the Porto bound folk are genuinely in for an AMAZING festival! *jealous*
-
My tickets and flights cost as much as a Barca ticket alone
Exceptional value
-
Does anyone have any idea how you get into Mangum/OTC?
Is it just gonna be a free for all, or some portal based shit
-
going through a portal sounds fun
that's some Northern Lights shit right there.
Matt_was_taken this'd this -
Tickets to be collected on Saturday
Limited to 2 per person, I believe. I hope they use the "old" Barcelona Auditori system (buying a ticket for 1 euro from the on-site box office) and not that rubbish web-portal.
-
This is pretty soon
Where is everybody staying? My apartment is called THE HOUSE OF THE WHALE which is pretty metal
-
Sky Hostel I think?
Which is in the centre so a bit of a walk away from the site, anyone know what times the metro runs?
-
Line A
First train: 6 AM
Last train: 1 AMThe metro runs every 10 mins (every 15 mins before 7 AM and after 8PM)
There is also a night bus: line 1M
One every hour, starting at 0:25 AM, last bus at 5:25 AM -
Matosinhos
In a hotel within walking distance from the festival site
-
A flat about 1km from the site
I've checked it out on street view and the area looks a bit grim. There's a supermarket really close though.
-
In the centre, miles away
think it's near casa de musica so will be good for the sunday at least

Yeah ours is in the Old Town
I want a holiday not just a festival
-
not sure what ours is called
but it's in the city centre somewhere. Which is good I think, will make it easy to see the city during the day and it shouldn't be too hard to and from to the festival site based on those metro/bus times. The excitement's definitely cranking up now for me.
-
just looked this up
brilliant. Can't wait to have one of those with a Francescinha.

worrying amount of bands cancelling these fests
half wonder if they're being encouraged to.

reeeeeeeeally gutted about this
one of the bands I was most looking forward to
Hope they still play latitude

Don't think Stephen Ireland plays for EITS
Cancelled due to a "serious family problem"
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2007/sep/15/newsstory.sport4 -
Yeah because Bjork losing her voice,
One of El-P's family dying and what sounds like similar for EITS is 'encouragement' for cancellation. It's just unfortunate and tragic more than anything.

Was on the Porto Metro site last night checking route from the airport
They had a section on the festival - the trains will be running an hour later and starting an hour earlier for the festival - so finish at 2 start at 5

Also has anyone else noticed with the Porto Metro
That every stop seems to be on every line?
-
I'm so eager that I'm already in Portugal
It's alright so far, not tried any #superbock yet.
-
BUT ARE THEY USING THE PORTAL CARD SYSTEM FOR THE BARS?!
I'm going to buy my holiday money in the next half an hour so it would be really useful to know.
-
Are you already in Porto?
if you have the opportunity try to explore other places of the north of Portugal. It has very beautiful places. Or, as a more practical possibility, you can make a cruising along the Douro River.
-
not sure if i can go
fucky
-
dude, how come?
in other news, have we all noticed that Mercury Rev have replaced EITS? Doesn't quite make up for it, but at least it's something. Hopefully they'll just play all of Deserter's Songs and not their dull-as new stuff.
-
no i hadnt
grrrr.
work stuff. someone shoulda been back from maternity, they aint come back, and we're swamped with work. plus i haven't rebooked my flight yet post-cancellation
-
ah, that's properly shit
hope it works out for you.
-
:(
(had my first superbock last night)
-
no, in Lisbon at the moment
Liking it so far. Getting to Porto on Wednesday.

Cronenberg/John
Is drinking in the streets as normal as it is in Barcelona? What about on public transport? I'm not gonna be all lads on tour rolling round pissed up in the streets, but having a couple of estrella limons on the way to the site in Barcelona was an amazing way to start.
-
Saturday night in Lisbon was a huge outdoor drinkfest
thanks to the glorious weather.
Some people seem to buy cans from cornershops, but most just order a cheap beer in one of the many little bars and then clog the streets. Not too sure about drinking on public transport; the few times I've used it no one was drinking, but this was always during the day time.
-
Does anyone know what time gates open on Thurs?
Also, what's the deal with the Jeff Mangum gigs? Do you just turn up at the Casa Da Musica or do you get tickets in advance somehow?
-
Where to pick up tickets?
Is it like Barcelona when picking up tickets of having a place in the centre of town a couple of days before and then opening the site up early on the first day to collect?
Also transport seems more complicated than Barca. They have a plastic card thing that is reusable and also various zones. The airport needs zone 1-4 any ideas about what zones the site is in? I was hoping to get a 10 trip pass like in Barcelona but don't think they do that.
-
Sweet, cheers.
I think the way my flat is located, I can have a stroll with a beer to the right metro line, or get on one by my door and change over. Also, it looks like a short walk from the metro stop to the park entrance.
-
Zone 3
The metro stop is called Matosinhos-Sul, 10 mins walk from the entrance to the festival site.
-
If you're over 16 you can drink/buy everywhere
Portugal has several major brands of beer, though the two most popular, found nationwide, are Sagres and Superbock.
Both these brands offer a range of beers including non-alcoholic varieties and dark ("preta") versions.
There are two ways to order beer in cafes and restaurants - by the bottle ("garrafa") or draught ("imperial" in Lisbon & South and "fino" in the north). To get a large glass of beer order a "caneca".
The cheapest beer can be purchased in some local stores and supermarkets (Minipreço, Pingo Doce, Continente, ...) where you can buy a SB'10-pack for 6 euros (60 cents per bottle), just as example.
http://www.continente.pt/ProductDetailMain.aspx?productId=3692742&CategoryPath=2&CategoryName=%20&SubCategoryName=&PageIndex=1 -
Cheers
Had a look and that's on the blue line and quite a few stops it seems. I wonder if it's quicker taking a bus from the city centre?
-

I've no idea where (at the festival site probably)
Probably tomorrow night. Pm me your number and I can give you a text or something?
-
Terrible start
Just got to the bloody hotel and they say they have no record of my booking. I showed them email print out, email on netbook and even logged into booking.com at the desk to show them. Just got shrugged at and told no rooms. They speak no English and respond to every poor attempt at talking with 'no room'. I booked in February! If I'm being cynical it might be because they could get more money from a later booking...
So now I'm in a room after they moved me to one but gave the impression of not being able to stay 4 nights. so how long I'm here for I do not know. If anyone has a spare bed I would be very grateful as I may need it!
Well I'm off t pick up wristband soon. The night buses look very good. If I read right there one every 5 mins through the night

Porto Primavera review
I was looking for one and couldn't find any, so wrote my own here:
http://sosogood.posterous.com/live-porto-primavera -
Having been to Primavera in Barcelona in 2011 and 2012..
I am wondering if I should change things a bit and go to Porto 2013 as Blur would be a lovely treat. Any advice? I found the sort of "empty" atmosphere of Primavera 2012 on the Saturday night a bit odd (the Friday night was far busier - seems Spaniards really like The Cure!) - would Porto be "empty" feeling for the whole weekend?
-
well
Last day for 80 euros tickets is Monday. From tuesday, tickets are 110 euros!
I'm thinking 'Fuck it' and i'll get a ticket on the weekend.
-
fix attempt two?
A 40 euro jump from when tickets first went on sale at 70, and they've only announced one act :/ I trust them to deliver an amazing line up, I just hope it gets announced a bit quicker, before they raise the prices so much that it puts a lot of people off.
-
it's
the Blur effect. They'll get high local ticket sales because of them being exclusive.
-
The site is smaller so I wouldn't have thought so.
This year it didn't feel too empty (or overcrowded). It's also grassier so feels less, um, industrial?
-
don't bother
i'm a little drunk but...
the city is nice, but the barcelona version is SO much better.
alright, there were loads of cancellations (can't be helped), a terrible queuing system (x2) for jeff mangum and loads more corporate sponsors, but it's generally got a worse line-up...
-
ok
post for Gabi on headliner clues
'The total number of letters contained in the names of the headliners is 33.
The quantity of components of female sex between the headliners is one or none.'So, Blur is done, 29 characters left.
-
Nick Cave And the Bad Seeds + Daft Punk = 30
So either Gabi miscalculated or one of the rumours I'd heard is wrong. (Or Daft Punk aren't a headline act.)

GO PORTO TEAM!
i think there are enough bands to warrant the ticky price already. finding an apartment is proving difficult mind.
