Rolling Dance Mongrel 2012
You know that music that doesn’t quite fit house/techno/dubstep/bass/funky/electro/beats/whatever... The stuff that sits on the fringes or you know just bangs and there isn’t a thread where it fits.

The Beneath one is sooo good.
It's so brutal with it's paired down pummel but still has a funky swing.
-
Really need to check that out
I've been playing his 10" on M>O>S Deep a lot recently.
-
E_H_Gombreak this'd this
-
I've been labeling this genre "Glitch-Step" in my personal playlists
But I quite like "Dance Mongrel" too. May change it.
-
There doesn't seem to be a set name
I wouldn't call it a genre on the most part either its kinda strange and all over the place. Can't really stand the name post-dubstep now that its full of Joy Orbison clones and sketchy cut up generic vocals over sterilie beats and the term bass music sounds kinda off when talking about a lot of this stuff. SO I'm gonna call the thread dance mongrel just cos pretty much anything goes rather than it being a genre or anything.

Pretty sure thats on the way for Local Action on a white at some point, gonna be all over the place no doubt.
DJ Q - All Junglist
LARGE!
DJ Q has a quality mix CD out on Unknown To The Unknown too.
-
Unknown To The Unknown are on a mad one at the moment
I'm with you on the vocals, they dont quite fit somehow do they, its something a lot of people fail at.
New Marcus Mixx is sounding ace on UTTU too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGVP5A36nsY

Ace
Glad they're putting something new out, they had a quiet year last.
-
yeah spose they did
Peverelist & Pangaea where the only singles outside of the comp, that was pretty spesh on its own tho. Ramadanman was a lot quiter than usual too, release wise. All the Hessle peeps where in clubs everywhere last year.
-
Oh aye what they did put out was amazing. I still need to get the compilation on wax. Sort of got the feeling they have been reeling in and waiting for something to really excite them before they put it out.

Throwing snow - Too Polite
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znMKJELCXN4
Jungle brutality, get the feeling it's something that'll be an influence more and more this year. -
I dig this one
Not as sold on the other tracks on the EP, they're nice enoguh mind but I dunno. Got a nice CD with it too with some Laurel Halo, Damu, T.Williams, Jacques Greene on it too from Local Action bonus.
-
Ifan Dafydd
http://soundcloud.com/pushandrun/ifan-dafydd-treehouse-to-me
Can't decied on this guy. He's very James Blake but then he did live with the dude for some time. It's a lot more 'nice'/'polite' than Blake's danceir stuff. Thois one has a nice vibe to it tho.
-
Yeah it's a nice little extra
and i know what you mean about the others, seem a little lacklustre in comparison.
-
Throwing Snow has some cool stuff tho
I played on a bill with him last year in London and his live set was well nice.
-
Sorry if I'm going of topic,
but does anyone know if Koreless will release something this year? I really love the 4D/MTI 12" and would love to hear more of his stuff.
-
sounds on topic to me

Addison Groove - Sooperlooper
Can't quite decide how I feel about this track, it sound almost... electroclash?
http://soundcloud.com/modeselektor/addison-groove-sooperlooper -
its got an odd electro/moombahton thing going on hasn't it
wasn't really expecting that. When it settles into the drums its got a nice bump to it. We'll see how it goes with the rest of the album I guess.
-
krystal klear and olivier daysoul- never thought you would go
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOGiH5_n72A
lower tempo krystal klear, favourite thing from him, such a jam. eglo are on it.
-
Coki

When he whips out the drums he's pretty fucked. African house/electro vibes on this one. Kinda hype/carnival/rave music.

Getting more and more into the deep house stuff the more I dig
All the releases on Shevchenko are just lovely
-
Vakula is starting to grow on me I wasn't convinced at first
but I really dig the last one he did on there dub as always/untitled and Mama Said Go Slow now.
-
DJ Sotofett - Pulehouse
Real nice oddball house w/ odder low tempo stuff on the flip. Feeling it.
-
Mama Said Go Slow is definitely my favourite of them
The Leleka imprint he's just started is good too, almost seems kind of folk inspired.
-
Love this, the afro vibe on the bside is brilliant
Everything from Sex Tags (http://shitfuckyou.com/) is worth a look. The Reson one I mentioned above is soooo good.
-
Patrice & Friends- Take Too Long

-
RuF Dug - Ruf Kutz #4
http://www.piccadillyrecords.com/products/RufDug-RufKutz4-RufKutz-80877.html
sounds real nice from the clips -
Oh man that's shitty
I wasn't so impressed by the music, but the speed at which he's cutting it up and the skill seems pretty incredible.
-
He's an MPC madman thats for sure
insane skills. Think he's got another album in the works at the mo too.
-
Torske is good
I remember putting on the Aside of http://clone.nl/item12873.html on at a houseparty and terrifying everyone senseless
-
Legowelt - North Sea Spectrum EP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H9onc5Fxfs
Out in february on Newcastle label signals I think?
Also his Beats in Space mix is glorious

A label based in Canada. They have a comp out which is very, very good. Broadly in the glitch-hop space but really there is all sorts of stuff in there. Listen...

Considering buying one of the ones that Bankhead has already put up on discogs
But i think I'll wait til honest jons stock it, want to get a couple of Acido releases too.
The centre labels for it on trilogy tapes look real nice, his last few designs have been lovely. -
he's been so good of late
these two are prob my faves from him.

you don't have to parody skrillex and his fans
its one of the cooler things about him
-
well that sounds like an excelent idea
the label that blue organ ep is on Hypercolour/Hype LTD is doign soem ace stuff right now. Maya Jane Coles is on one and Mosca has a 12" coming soon which is sounding too good.

just listening to Maya right now as it happens!
yeah can't get enough of her stuff.
-
Tessela

New signing to Punch Drunk, killer highly swung house ravey vibes.
-
Marcus Mixx is a fucking legend.
So glad they've got him releasing new stuff, his classic records are stupidly expensive now. Also really feeling that Alias G 12" on UTTU though the bassline stuff isn't really my thing.
-
^
Really like that Alias G 12" too, hopefuly they get them lot to dig more fucked up house this year.

sounds pretty damn good to me.
-
Is it me or has he gone a bit Italo?
Something about some of those synth and string sounds. Love it anyway.
-
Kinda hear what you mean
I guess the syths/strings have that cheap soulful vibe that Italo does.
There was more info on the live show too:
'Guido live show is developing at a rapid rate, and will feature “four people on stage”. Guido will be on laptop and synths, while three other musicians play acoustic and electronic drums, bass guitar and electric guitar.
“They will play the amazing Anidea LP”, the mail-out expands, “including classics like ‘Orchestral Lab’ and ‘Mad Sax’ then into fresh productions from the iconic UK producer”.'

Benjamin Damage and Doc Daneeka - They Live! [50 Weapons]
That's the album's best but strangest quality: Its hybrid of house and techno is a little too out there to fit in with Chicago-friendly revivalists, and it's heavily tranquilized in comparison to many of their peers (or even to Doc Daneeka's own solo work). Taken on its own merits, though, They! Live is a lovely, highly listenable release, flowing effortlessly in a way that most house music albums can only hope for. Whether this collaboration remains a one-off or sprouts further music from the UK duo, They! Live stands as definitive proof of how mutable, accessible and still boldly experimental all this "UK bass" stuff really can be.

Do we have a House/Techno 2012 thread?
Couldn't find one so i'm sticking this in here. So an hour long part of a Zip set has appeared on Soundcloud. It's pretty rare to have a recording of Zip, even rarer to have a proper club recording not some unrepresentative set from a bullshit festival.
Zip is my favorite DJ by a long way and this gives you a little glimpse why. He plays records from across the board from speed garage to late 90s minimal house to brand new unreleased tunes but fits them all to his own unique 'Zip' aesthetic, so much so it becomes impossible to guess whether a record he's playing is brand new or 15 years old. This set is a treat, an hour of weird groovy house that you'd struggle to find many other people playing:
-
There should be one
I didn't want to over saturate the place and do it myself though, espesh when its not my number one spesh.
I'll give this a listen sounds ace.
-
I think they're going to have some dubstep at the super bowl
Can't wait for a full DMZ live show at half time w/ Sgt Pokes on commentry.

Scuba - The Hope / Flash Addict [Hotflush]
"On the 27th February, Scuba will release his third album through Hotflush. Entitled 'Personality' and featuring 11 brand new tracks, it takes in a wealth of genres across contemporary dance music, proving once again Scuba’s place at the cutting edge of the electronic music scene. Preceding his LP will be this single ‘The Hope’; pushing on from the tense atmospherics of previous Scuba material, the single fizzes with claustrophobic bass pressure and menacing narration. Backed by an exclusive non-album cut 'Flash Addict'."
http://soundcloud.com/hotflush/scuba-the-hope-flash-addict -
The more I hear The Hope the more I think it sounds like...
Some kind of old prog/electro/nubreaks thing from the early 2000s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP7NSo6y_M0 not one of his best, still looking forward to the album mind.

simular vibe to the above, I really don't know what to think. This one is better than Sooperlooper, maybe. I mean its hard to tell of 1min clips. Wasn't expecting an retro blog house vibe from Addison Groove mind lol.
-
I do however expect that from Modeselektor
but not on 50 Weapons, I'm so confused haha. Intruiged by this direction.
-
I really really dislike it.
Just hit play on it and my girlfriend walked in and asked why I was listening to Boys Noize...
-
Yeah
Its not even that fun like Adrenalin was for a while. That track at least had a wicked little bassline in that loss/future unknown vain to go with the trance vibes.
-
Ah well
Hopefully the full length will have some good stuff

Oh thanks. Fell out the habbit of reading mnmlssg a bit. Don't know Mark Lord. All the others are good. W/ this & 100% Silk's attempts at House, not that keen of the prefix 'post-' or the concurrent implication that this kind of music, goes somehow beyond techno (i'm sure this isn't what mnmlssgs meant to imply, but it's a kind of anxiety for me). I think, it is just coming at the same genre signifiers from a different background, and is often endearing precisely for being executed in a way that's technically 'worse' or more messy than music that more stringently sticks to the signifers of that genre, so quite to the opposite from being a more polite version (as w/ IDM etc.)...and further, as Frak's long career shows, the whole distinction is ultimately pretty arbitrary anyway.
Also, since they mention him, there's a cool one-off Jelinek piece here http://artsbirthday.hfg-karlsruhe.de/
(click part 2) -
(from the old stuff)
-
I think the article does raise interesting points and highlights some nice output
But it's a little sloppily handled and like you say, the ominous usage of that prefix does suggest (whether intentionally or not) that this is something of a following act, which seems a little shaky.
and 100% Silk. I just can't decide how I feel about them, I'm leaning toward slightly indifferent. I like Malveaoux and Cuticle and stuff, but something that Jimi said about when he saw Ital play and him 'paling in comparison' to the others on the bill (Pev, Shake Shakir? not exactly an evenly stacked deck but still) stuck with me. The (extensive) output, whilst nice enough at the time, sort of feels rather blase when put side by side with other put. Doesn't help that Amanda Brown is determined to make herself look even more of a tit with every article/interview she does.

Oh and cheers for the Jelinek

Been living with the Ital record for a week or two now and I love it I think
It's at its best when he merges neu-kosmische shimmer with dance riddim. Can't find the best track 'Floridian Void', but this is a decent enough substitute I guess.

Got Joy O & Boddika's Froth/Mercy in the post just now
It's far far better than I was expecting, hadn't heard Froth before and it's got a lovely unhurried gallop to it. Far less of a 'banger' than I was expecting and I much prefer it to Swims.

http://www.sonicrouter.com/2012/02/sr-mix-121-archie-pelago-car-crash-set/
They mix and use instruments, its kinda sweet.
-
The best thing about this is by far
The awsome house mix by Spencer Kincy aka Gemini linked in the bottom half. Loving it. not that the article is bad or owt just really really feeling this mix haha.
-
Yeah the article is exceptionally uninsightful
but I guess I shouldn't expect anything different from Andrew Ryce. That Gemini set has been a long time fave, he's one of the best house producers of all time in my opinion, a real shame he disappeared.
-
that is a shame
the mix is too good. I'll have to dig into his productions, any recomendations? Not sure I've heard him before. And yeah the article is just kind of there. I feel like people have been writing the same thing since 2008. Its just now that people like Scuba are making stright up tech house lol.
-
These are the ones I have of his
http://www.discogs.com/Gemini-Imagine-A-Nation/release/1935
http://www.discogs.com/Gemini-In-My-Head-EP/release/64676Both are excellent, think I first out about him after going through all of the artists on Daft Punk's Homework, oh dear
-
Yeah I think I've heard the name Gemini
But then its a bit of a generic name, there are prob loads of Gemini's.
-
lol see...
'A case in point: Andrew Ryce filed recently a detailed and well written piece for RA on the bass/house intersection, but having had my say on this increasingly all pervasive movement at least twice in the last two years the prospect of having to re-iterate these arguments again and again in another two year's worth of columns (is house boring? if you add dubstep to it is it more or less than the sum of its parts? etc etc) fills me with dread.'
From the Blackdown P4k RIP article bellow.
-
cronenberg this'd this
-
its a shame
I've really enjoyed it over the years, loads of good suggestions in there. It was an inspiration for sure. Still he's killing it with Keysound, sets and radio at the moment I'm not going to complain much when we've had killer killer albums/12"s from Keysound since things got a bit quiet over on p4k for him.
-
I reckon Keysound had the best year for a British label in 2011
LV, Sully and Damu records, all brilliant. So yeah, Blackdown's still a massive hero. Needs to start making music with Dusk again if he's got a bit more spare time now!
-
I think they've been at it
but only really play the tracks in the clubs to road test them. Quite a few made it into this set tho: http://blackdownsoundboy.blogspot.com/2012/01/rinse-jan.html I'm holding out for Dasafelx. The LHF album is special they're going on strong after last years high thats for sure. Love the Dusk Vs. Kowton 12". Logos on the way at some point, awsome.

-
we don't usualy do 'news'
but you know, we're covering it and playing... A fact we're glad to anounce now that people like Boddika, Addison Groove, Kuedo, Pinch, Lando Kal, Randomer, Om Unit, Jimmy Edgar and so many more performing in the Overkill Arena, alongside Glade legends Ceephax Acid Crew.
Other highlights we ourselves just got wind of include the Hypercolour and Sneaker Social Club takeover of the Pyromid Stage (which’ll feature people like Appleblim, Mosca, WNCL and Al Tourettes) and the Earnest Endeavours, Senseless and Donky Pitch showcases at the Meteor Stage – which reportedly comes “hidden in a thirty foot deep crater with trees around its edges and bass bins at its core”.

-
sounds like a ncie middle ground between early ramadanman stuff and the housier bits
somthing like Dayrider maybe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDjSIENMx28
but with a more housy lean.
Its pretty sweet, he defo has a formular has always kinda just sounded like Ramadanman and this isn't one of his bangers like the last few. Well Stiffle was a banger for me and the Night SLugs re-edits where killers. Maybe thats why this is just a sly self released number. Just a warm up for the yeat since he was kinda quite last year bar the odd big track.

Vatican Shadow
Electronic project by Dominick Fernow (aka Prurient). This is last trashy than his last Prurient record, really quite like it. Not sure about the Muslimgauze comparisons.
-
Pev goes offon one of his journeys again with this remix of Eleven Tigers
Well nice.
Its cool to have Stableface on 12" too, it was a big track from that Clouds Are Mountains album in 2010.
-
The following album was a bit of a mess
Way too much going on. Couldn't get into it which was a massive shame as Clouds Are Mountains is an album I come back to quite often.
-
yeah it was an odd one
seemed like an experiment to get the crowd funded thing off the ground to me really and it was only done in 111 days so was prob kinda swift. He'll prob be on with more in the future.
-
I do like the stuff coming out under his name
But the other cassette releases he's done have stronger material on them, I'd have much rather have had the Pakistan Military Academy release.

I <3 Jenifa Mayanja shes just the right side of jazzy deep house without going too tasteful dad house on ya, its all still a bit rude and swung very nice.

I listened to that Mayanja one today

is the name of Orlando, FL's 16 year old producer, Marcel Everett. He's been compared to James Blake, Clams Casino, and Star Slinger.

Aussie hip-hop producer turns out an incredible Gotye remix
http://soundcloud.com/m-phazes/gotye-feat-kimbra-somebody-i
Wasn't really sure where else to put this (Hip-Hop/Pop thread?) but I can't stop listening to it. Loads of pitch shifted organs and hi hats. Amazing stuff. Quite like the original song (best number 1 we've had for ages...) but this is something else.
-
Oh yeah the guy's name is M-Phazes
Has worked with Talib Kweli and people, chucks in a Cassie sample to this remix for added :D

If you like Lone.
-
it's awesome
Really want to find out who Route 94 is/when that stuff's coming out.
-
I just don't get him
it's all a little too dry and boring for me. Shame because he's got so much energy live that I just wish his releases were in the same vein.
-
I like the dryness of this one
it sounds so stripped back and as fact said there pinprick drums and the tracks just build for ages and draw you in... It sounds like a fucked up minimal/garage hybrid glanced thru some shutters. Plus the bass is well nice and hypnotic. I wouldn't call Blue/Tonight/Music (Body Mix) dry mind, they feel kinda warm to me. I'd be up for hearing other bits from him tho yeah. These ones so far have been very Hessle, I det he's got a load more somewhere on a diffrent tip that haven't been picked up yet.
-
let's talk about... seapunk
basically i really like most of the stuff on Coral Records Internazionale especially SPLASH005 http://coralrecords.bandcamp.com/album/untitled-ep-splash005 and the Indigo Bunting tracks.
it seems to be basically cheesy 90s dance but with sub bass, blue hair and silly retro pc graphics.
-
I remember having a chat with Joe of Hessle
And he said both himself and Elgato have crazy tight self imposed QC, would love to hear some of their 'rejected' stuff
-
ahaha, #seapunk is so mainstream now man
i mean did you SEE lady gaga in THAT wig. omg. even #icepunk is begining to thaw. i think #slimepunk might still be cool but who knows?????

Livity Sound #4
Kowton
Idle Hands have in stock in the UK, Pev will do too no doubt.
-
Good grief I can't keep up
Livity is doing amazing things right now
-
That FACT write up is such bullshit.
'Again, the low-end feels like its been carefully carved out of the track for the first three minutes. When it hits, the effect is pretty magisterial' - uhm the first sound on the track is sub bass and it continues for the whole thing, maybe if you'd listened to the track on proper speaks you'd know that. Also what is 'hessle brand footwork'?!?
Anyway I love Elgato's tunes, he has a very individual sound - there aren't many other people making tunes like his. I'm really looking forward to hearing these in the club, in the hands of the right DJ they'll sound incredible.
-
Anyone like the Distal & HxdB 12" on Tectonic?
it's been a favourite recently. The new Tectonic Plates has quite a few good tracks on it, it's mostly quite techy tracky dark dubstep though which isn't particularly in vogue.
There have been some pretty essential dubstep re-releases recently too, Peverelist - Roll With The Punches and the Mala singles on Deep Medi!
There are quite a few things i've been meaning to cop recently, made a basket on Chemical and it came to £150 :(
-
I was meaning dry as in overly intellectual. It just seems like it's built for the irritating, unmoving people crowding round the dj booth rather than for making your feet move. Purpose built for Boiler Room crowds...
-
lol I wouldn't say its overly intellectual. Its not even close to bloomin Apex Twin or something. It's not a big room banger either. Nowt wrong with a deeper dance floor moment tho. You can't beat a nice hypnotic eyes down shuffle to break up those bigger moments.
-
You know a track is good when you see it pop up on re-press, you already have it but you wanna buy it again haha. I got excited when I saw Roll with the Punches and Changes back in stock and I've got them.
I really liked the Monky, Kevin McPhee, Roska tracks on the tectonic plates comp.
Distal & Hxdb is well nice n'all there is an ace Archie Pelego remix of that.
I know that chemical feeling haha I just ordered to many records yesterday from all over the place.
-
Hah, I might start calling it that chemical feeling
The tiger & woods represses on phonica pushed my basket to sixty quid yesterday and I took about an hour trying to whittle in down
-
Beneath - NOSY002

http://www.nosymbols.bigcartel.com/product/no-symbols-002 -

yeah I do that all the time, then just go somewhere else and end up buying something else. Espesh when a new Livity Sound pops up right after I thought I was done buyign 12"s haha.

It's excellent, possibly even more enjoyable than the hyperdub album. Spotted a couple of cuts from the first Narcissist that weren't on the second in there.

-
Also, I don't know how much people/bassheads are going to like the new Actress record
I bloody love it already, but it is VERY abstract and very out there. Not a dancefloor record at all.
-
Is it similar to the rainy dub/faceless 12 in tempo?
Because I loved that.
-
No, tbh
It's far more minimal than even that. Remember the ambient/neo-classical touches on the Zomby record? Lots of that. On first listen, that bass kick seems almost gone entirely - it's much more of an electronica record.
-
love this
I've found Motion the Dance to be VERY addictive.
-
Oh really?
Interesting, can't wait to hear it
-
Very much enjoying that Jacques Greene ep....
This kinda thing isn't a forté of mine, if anyone has any recommendations or aesthetically similar tunes could thay whack them in this Spotify playlist?

A Silent Flute - Banana Bazaar
'Nat Thomson aka A Silent Flute has been mixing one thing or another for over ten years, first in Baltimore (where he penned the definitive history of Baltimore Club for Wax Poetics) and now in NYC (where he gets all his good music tips from yoga instructors), but always on The Internet. You might know the A Silent Flute name from the long running and obscure (Underpublicised) mix series hosted on his blog, where he trots out the most far-out records from his deep collection.
He has also mixed for the likes of Mad Decent, Mishka, Test Pressing, East Village Radio, AOR Disco, SlamXHype and some suburban Persian club promoters one time in 2002, where he may or may not have been forced to play trance. On Banana Bazaar he connects the dots between euro-reggae, '80s tribal-jazz, African grooves and Brazilian jam sessions. '

Wasn't that Hookworms?
I might be getting mixed up mind.

New Trilogy Tapes/Hinge Finger stuff
Dro Carey - Leary Blips EP [The Trilogy Tapes]
Joy Orbison - Ellipsis/Ellipsis (Head High Remix) -
well I know which one of those will be selling out by the end of the day
haha
Been waiting for this Dro Carey, he just dropped a limited one on Ramp too which hits so damn hard its unreal: http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2012/04/dro-carey-unveils-limited-12-ram remixes/VIPs of bits from Journy of the heavy EP.
-
£11
Bit steep.
(Ordered anyway cos I'm a sucker)
-
Hah, yeah
Figured it was worth ordering the Joy O one straight off the bat and wait for the Dro Carey to go into Phonica or Rubadub, 22 quid for the both seemed a bit much
-
is there a sister thread to this for stuff that does fall in the house/techno/bass sound area?
because i need some advice for a noob (myself of course). Been getting more into the electronic music area and listening to more bass-y stuff like George FitzGerald, Scuba, Sepalcure, Joy O and house-y stuff like Maceo Plex and I need some good suggestions of more artists and mixes to check out. Been recently enjoying the Scuba essential mix which is great in patches but not consistent enough. really liking the deep house/tech/dub steppy vibe. essentially i think this is the tits:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=4seakmx7LNMand i'd like to hear more of the same. I know your not a huge scuba fan Jimi but I have a feeling you and others might be able to point me in the right direction. Yours, an aspiring electronic music fan. Plus I am going to Bloc and i'm obscenely excited.
-
I like Scuba just not into the newer stuff from this album
George FitzGerald, Scuba, Sepalcure, Joy O all fit here pretty nicely but there is a house thread too: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4320642 which they pretty much fit in as well.
Scuba & John Osborn Mix from Panorama Bar the other week: http://mnmlssg.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/ssg-special-scb-b2b-john-osborn.html
Presk & Alex Coulton have a nice techy vibe: http://www.sonicrouter.com/2012/03/sr-mix-125-presk-fourth-wave/ / http://www.sonicrouter.com/2012/03/sr-mix-126-alex-coulton-idle-hands/
You're on the right track for that sound by digging int orecent stuff on Hotflush. No idea about the Maceo Plex stuff not really into that Julio Bashmore and the Future Boogie label might be worth a look tho, maybe some Outboxx. Might be worth an ask on the house thread.
-
great shout. thanks for the suggestions. that thread is perfect. i do remember seeing it now
i need to invest some time in having a good rummage around and listening to the links. Looking forward to it.
-
wait...
is that ja ja binks on the artwork?

they're awful
no idea how they got anywhere they just sound like everyone else doing that 'post-dubstep' sound they're so generic its unreal. Just photo copies of Joy Orbisons ideas a few years ago.

I love the Bristol techno thing at the moment
Really impressed by the new October 12" on TANSTAAFL. Livity Sound and all the Kowton bits coming out are wicked too. My sister keeps joking that everyone in Bristol has at least five labels and three of those are techno labels at the moment.

I mean, this is good and all
But at least people like Pariah and Clubroot have the decency to try something slightly different around the Burial framework, whereas this is one of the most blatant sounding rip-offs I've ever heard. Doesn't mean the music isn't nice, it's just a bit galling.
-
exactly, it's not bad but it's a blatant copy without adding a single new idea
but anyway I will listen to this new split record and try to discover some new "influences".

littlebirds this'd this -
there are some decent tracks in there to be fair
but it's a grab-bag of every different musical style that vaguely relates to dubstep / has been played by DJs that may have also played a Skream record. Pulse X? Footcrab? okay then
badmanreturns and littlebirds this'd this -
No doubt
If you hadn't heard any music vaguely relating to the genre, you'd discover some great tunes, but as the 30 GREATEST DUBSTEP SONGS OF ALL TIME it's pretty baffling... roughly what you'd expect from Spin. Still I'm sure a few Skrillex fans will have their boundaries expanded somewhat.
