Nothing Ever Changes.
Where the bass kicks in at 1:45 and drives the song, oh fuck yeah!
Even though I've owned it since 93, their self titled debut album has been my mosted listened to record of the past few weeks.
Why does noone give this record the recognition it deserves?
It was on Grass Records which went under. They had The Wrens Secaucus on their roster too. I guess that explains why so many people seemed to miss those two classic albums.
As for Secaucus, I can never tell if the Meadowlands bettered it, even though the latter got such high praise. 19 songs and every one an absolute treat. The Wrens never have to release anything again. They have already given us so much.
Quite eager to hear what John Schmersal will come out with in his downtime from touring with Caribou now Enon are pretty much defunct.
and Tim Taylor was an amazing, captivating front-man. he always had the coolest boots on.
this ones my fave
wrens are really, really close to releasing the followup to meadowlands. early next year is the rumor.
possibly more than i should
song in this set?
i feel old
I used to be obsessed by Bonsai Superstar, I'll have to dig it out and put it on the ipod
This is prob my fav http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYkGUJYNxig
Bonsai is such a great record. I have looked for the LP version for years and was lucky enough a couple of years ago to come across a seller selling it. Paid £40 for it, but so worth it.
By the way, for those looking for similar stuff to Brainiac, check out the first album by Whirlwind Heat called Do Rabbits Wonder.
be warned if you do this. whirlwind heat are a pale imitation.
i should know, i went to highschool with them.
The rest of their stuff stinks, but you have to be fair, their first album is mental. I think it's genius.
Their regular set closer I believe. One of my favourites. I appreciated that song on a whole new level when I saw them perform it live.
and i respect it. but i'm telling you..these guys were alt-by-numbers until Brainiac rolled through town. they quickly bought some cheap synths, moved to Detroit, hooked up with jack white (through a great piece of fortune)and put out that record. i have heard it enough to know what its about.
Have to confess I've hardly ever listened to Smack Bunny baby, but that live version is mind-blowing. Will check out the studio take now.
features a Brainiac tune.
Brainiac >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> First WH album though
I just like how they use the different sounds and the vocals. And this song where they replace the drumkit with various samples of a woman talking. So many mad ideas in every song and they actually fit together. And the songs are all mint. Such a great band
Also best song about finger puppets
