Not particularly great pop music, but pop music all the same, and if you can't say dumb, crazy, irresponsible shit in the context of a pop song, when can you? RATM are in their 40s and when they yell FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME! to a crowd of adults all jumping around going mental, it should be laughable, but it isn't - it's fun, it's cathartic, it gives people the opportunity to behave in public in a way that would otherwise have them sectioned, and for that we should be thankful.

Attack OF for their mysogyny & homophobia by all means (though personally I think people are sane enough to realise they're just rapping, they're not literally going out into the streets beating up homosexuals - and if one disturbed individual is encouraged to do so as a result, does that mean we should ban their music based on the 0.00001% of their audience who are too mentally fucked up to realise it's not real, rather than let the 99.99999% majority who can handle it decide for themselves?) but calling a rock/pop/hip-hop band immature is like accusing a cat of being too furry.

I believe was written by a 15 year old child. It originally went 'Kill people, burn shit, fuck school / Odd Future young enough to get your priest mouth drool', so that would be where the joke is, though its been decontextulised

Originally, the 'Bastard' album is set around him being sent to a psychotherapist at school so the persona isn't too old.

Or if you just mean the people at gigs, well its kinda the same as singing 'I wanna be anarchy'. Most people don't really want anarchy, its just rebellion schtick. I can see why that may put off people but I think its kinda obvious what it means.

but as I said above, I think the average listener is smart enough to put it in context, just as the average listener knows Johnny Cash didn't really shoot a man in Reno or Nick Cave didn't really smash Kylie's head in with a rock.

Half the time the seem to be like "Why aren't kids these days more angry? When I was a kid we were very angry." but once a young angry band comes around they switch to "Oh, the youth are angry? How immature."
