Saturday looks kinda poor
Tiesto, David Guetta, Coheed & Cambria all high up the bill. Well, by "kinda poor" I mean "less than utterly amazing" which the other two days are.
I wanna go again too :/
-
Plastikman?
How long has Hawtin been performing back under that name? Haven't seen that for 7-8 years.
-
wow
the more i read it, the more bands i see that i'd love to see.
-
Id like to do this or fiji rock festival
still waiting on fiji line up
-
Fever Ray?
The gig at the forum, back in December was supposed to have been the last Fever Ray gig ever. Quite a quick comeback!
-
thought it was last UK gig?
you might be right tho
-
wanting to go to this
but i'm terrible at organising trips abroad. for anyone who's been before, is it hard to get sorted? is it camping ala glastonbury etc?
-
Since when did Gorillaz become a festival headline act?
Also whats with the ???? after Thom Yorke? Day three does look a beast though
-
it's okay
not really worth a transatlantic flight. i can't believe i'm going to say this, but i don't think it's 'indie' enough for me...
-
I'm assuming you mean Fuji.
SummerSonic's better than Fuji if you wanna got to Japan.
Though the idea of a music festival on Fiji is a marvellous one.
-
Amazing line-up.
I don't care though - we got our wristbands for SXSW yesterday.
-
That was the 1st thing I thought
when I saw him on the bill. Didn't even realised he still did stuff live.

I'm still not sure I believe this is real. It's too good. TOO GOOD.
Fucking incredible. Someone take me, yeah? Cheers.

ridiculous line-up
anyone got any idea what this festival is like in terms of practicality and staying there? Obviously you're camping in a desert, but is it really crowded, is there a good atmosphere, is it easy to drink, what are prices like, etc?
-
Camping
Most people stay in hotels, but I think you can camp. I'm sure there are details on the Coachella website. I went the year Daft Punk played. It's a decent festival, but I can't imagine visiting Brits being too happy about the fact that you can't drink alcohol and watch bands play. All booze consumption is restricted to areas away from the stages.
My recommendation is to take a bit of extra time and go and explore the desert afterwards. I know this is a well-worn cliche, but it is like being on a different planet. The Joshua Tree is great, especially if you're a Gram Parsons fan. I went out there with a group of friends after Coachella and we stayed in the same hotel room that Gram od'd in. Fun times, if you like that kind of thing.
-
doesnt look great, a couple of good bands but nothing special
Im determined to go to what the heck fest this year, loads better
-
this looks so good :o
the sad thing is, if this was in the summer i'd be there. why april :(
-
It's a good line-up,
shame it's Coachella.
-
If they do the clever set up with the holograms
then I can see it could work, not my first choice though
-
Really put off by the complete lack of shade at this festival
I burn walking past a microwave so it's not the most sensible festival to go to for me
-
Super stoked for Coachella
I saw Jay-Z, MGMT, Muse, and Tiesto in concert and they all blew me out of the water. Definitely super excited to see this amazing line up on what is going to be the most epic musical fiasco of the year!
-
I went in 2004
It was good fun but it would take someone like Kate Bush to make me go again - I don't cope well in the heat and there's NO SHADE ANYWHERE. You can't drink beer and watch a band at the same time but you won't be drinking much anyway as you need to keep drinking water to keep hydrated.

no one has mentioned sly and the family stone yet,
incredible- surely the standout thing of the lineup?
a 3 minute performance at the 2006 grammys and before that, 1987?
gil scott heron has performed a lot in new york in recent years i think. i saw him a couple of times at the jazz cafe not that many years ago, why is everyone on about him here, yeah it's big news, but come on, surely the big story is what's gonna happen with sly and the family stone? -
ROFL
Frank Turner @ Coachella
-
Sly & The Family Stone played
some shows over here last year. Were dreadful, apparently.
-
i stand corrected.
by here, do you mean britain? if so i'm surprised that passed me by.
-
its that superband malarky
him, flea, Nigel Godrich et al performing 'The Eraser'
-
Yep
Drinking is in an enclosure away from the stages so you can't drink and watch a band at the same time. But its too hot too drink beer anyway.

2007
From the reviews:
"This year's tour is one of them, and even then, it's 20 minutes before he staggers on, a hunched figure in a hood, hat, shades and a gold chain.
Sitting down at a keyboard he doesn't actually play (the overhead handclaps are the giveaway), he performs a slowed-down, almost lobotomised version of "If You Want Me to Stay" which lacks any of the sexual menace of the record, and you start to realise how damaged he must now be.
He sticks around for "Stand" and "I Wanna Take You Higher", randomly hitting things with a drumstick or fiddling irrelevantly with a keyboard until he gets bored, then wanders off while the Family Stone play on. You thought Brian Wilson was a decrepit passenger in his own band? Compared to Sly Stone, Brian Wilson is Iggy bleeding Pop."
"Stone's band, including sister Lisa, was fantastic, tight and sharp and lots of fun. The man himself only appeared five songs in, hunched and slurring though still in possession of that rich, familiar voice.
After singing If You Want Me to Stay and Sing a Simple Song, he announced, "I'm going for a piss, I'll be right back," reappeared once more later on and then left his band looking as surprised as the crowd at the abrupt ending. If this is how he wishes to present his numerous classics these days, he's better off staying away for a few more decades."
"The figure who graced the stage for about 15 minutes and a handful of songs seemed like a phantom, oblivious to the crowd's goodwill and, as the minutes passed awkwardly, to their growing bemusement. He seemed barely there on 'Sing A Simple Song', and took 'Family Affair' at a slow and wavering pace that was fascinating to behold but only in the manner of a faltering tightrope walk.
'I Want To Take You Higher' almost took off when he rose, Lazarus-like, from his chair and shuffled to the front of the stage, almost animated, a cruel caricature of his former self. Then he was gone without a backward glance, and the group lurched into an extended jazz-funk jam that, in its interminable pointlessness, eventually drove me to the exit. It was an oddly enervating night, sad and somehow unnecessary. I guess he needs the money but one can't help thinking that Sly's heart is not in it. Never mind his soul."

ditto
it's too hot for me, even though the year i went (2005) was apparently one of the mildest.

Yup.
It's his first since mutek in 2005 but that was a one off (that didn't go so well...), before that the last was in 1995.
