Exclusive new Four Tet track on this compilation...
http://www.musicforagoodhome.com And very excellent it is too!
-
wow.
Liking this very much.
Is his more recent stuff like this then? (Burial collab. aside, as I've got that) but I remember he released an album recently which was a apparently a bit more techno which I haven't heard.
-
the 'ringer EP' was the last release which was amazing
looks like the new stuff is pushing that forward in that vein, which im really excited about - its on a whole new level from his old stuff. i really hope there's an album on the way.
-
it is.

I thought I could hear a faint echo of UK Funky in Love Cry.
Well now it's being remixed by one of Funky's leading lights Roska and Joy Orbison, who operates somewhere between Dubstep & Funky.
Looking forward to hearing this - I bought Love Cry, but am a little underwhelmed by it to be honest. I can't help fealing that he's lost his way a little, hopefully the album will put things straight.http://www.factmagazine.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3873&Itemid=26

I saw him DJ at the weekend
I expected a set made up largely of the sort of stuff he used to play at Border Community nights, but was really surprised - about an hour of his own stuff and similar followed by an hour or so of UK funky and old school garage! I'm definitely hearing the funky influence in his new stuff, but it was still bizarre (and a welcome surprise) to see Kieran Hebden playing Hard House Banton, Roska and So Solid Crew's 'Oh No'.
I really like Love Cry, really looking forward to the Roska remix in particular, and I reckon the album should be excellent given his current form.
-
he was always into UKG though
so solid are on his dj kicks thing, i've heard him talking about it in interviews too. I'm not a fan of his new stuff, seems a little banal, not sure how into his old stuff I am either, haven't listened to him in a while.
-
Yeah, this is true
I guess it's just because he's never done stuff like that when I've seen him DJ before, I just assumed he wouldn't have played any. Was good to get some funky in anyway, it seems like it's gradually starting to invade Bristol which can only be a good thing.
-
I've only seen him dj once, last summer.
He played mainly techno then, not a bad set.
It seems to have gone quiet Funky wise down here in Brighton of late for some reason.
Just realised that really nasty looking Princess Nyah - Big Boys record has Frontline on the flip. May have to buy it despite the tacky cover and even tackier A side. It was one of my fave tunes over the summer, rinse absolutely erm rinsed it...Ill Blue production:Ill Blu Ft Princess Nyah - Frontline

Ill Blu is awesome.
Point me in the direction of some good new funky tunes please! It's been a little quiet on my end lately. I keep hearing the same stuff that I already know...
-
i must say im not convinced by love cry
it seems a bit ambiguious and actually, dare i say it, a little boring. its like old fourtet in terms of beat and percussion and new four tet in temrs of the straght beat.. im sure it would be great to hear played out and loud in a club, but at my desk it's not exactly blowing my skirt up, so to speak.
-
that doesnt really make sense does it
i mean old fourtet in terms of the sound design of the beat and percussion and the organic nature of it. new four tet as in the 4/4 beat..
-
It's been quiet since the summer.
Also many of the big players are playing straight house. And like dubstep the dj's like to hang on to their exclusive tunes for ages.
I quite like the new Tadow Productions record, also the new Emvee - Groove On. Lil Silva has got a new white label out, though you've probably been hearing it for ages now. I still like that Roska ft Jamie George track, but some folk don't like the vocal.

big dissapointment for me
Love Cry just plods along on an old funk bassline and the b-side is anonymous gamelan which is a retrograde step from the stuff on Everything Ecstatic. I really liked the Burial collaboration and I'm still holding out hope for the album, but this hasn't done much to whet my appetite.
-
Same here,
I sold my copy on Discogs this morning. I quite liked the Burial colab, though it didn't deserve the hype it got.
I think the album will still be good and don't think this release will be representative particularly. There's no doubt he is a talented guy, just not sure club tracks are his thing. -
Woaaa
http://pitchfork.com/forkcast/13577-love-cry-joy-orbision-remix/
Joy Orbison's done a pretty sterling job on Love Cry. I really like the original but this is a world of goodness better.
-
Ooh I like that!
The Roska remix is here as well:
-
Not really a fan of Four Tet...
...but he's playing at The Dome in Tuffnell Park in Feb. Joy Orbison's supporting so I may well go this.
-
If you don't like four tet
I'd save your money, I can't see Joy Orbison live being particularly exciting tbh.
-
Neither is Four Tet really
I saw him at TDK (I think) about 4 years ago and he was dull. My Dad's quite keen to go so I'll only go on the provisor that he pays!
-
It's funny, I've seen him a load of times live and really enjoyed it
I suppose it depends whether watching someone play around with a laptop on stage irritates you. It seems to be a foregone conclusion with most of the music I go to watch live, so it doesn't bother me that much.
-
I've seen many laptop sets
but more along the lines of Kid606, Shitmat, Com.a et al...so it's been a bit more upbeat and I'm spending my time jumping around like a goon. I was hoping for a nice wind down after seeing Gay Against You and DJ Scotch Egg but I was left feeling rather bored.
-
this sounds good
I'm not that fussed about Four Tet on his own he's never really grabbed me but I like it when he jumps in with the young tallented bass scene lot. Its almost as if they know how to make his songs better than he does. The Roska Roska Roska! Remix sounds cool too.
-
Fair enough really
He doesn't exactly make it particularly busy looking! I liked the way he used to extend his tracks out for ages and bleed them into others, around the time of Everything Ecstatic, but I don't know if he really does that much anymore.
-
It's soooo good.
I find it quite hypnotic, and the climax is astounding. The b-side is extremely weak, but I'll forgive him and wait for the album.

i wish he'd hurry up and do an album.
