Ex Libras
Hailing from Hounslow, the back yard of M.I.A, Ex Libras are a promising fresh sound, producing melodic noise high on siren guitars, hip-hop beats, samples and classical piano.
Ex Libras are an impressive live experience. Always mistaken for more than a 3-piece - thanks to their inventive use of live sampling, they unleash sonic flourishes and tight improvisational moments creating something both spontaneous and hypnotic.
Forming little over a year ago, Ex Libras first built their own Studio, to write, rehearse and record in, which sees the realisation of their first full length debut, "Suite(s)" - due for release 12th October 2009, coinciding with a UK tour and In-Store at Pure Groove - 15th October.
Munroe Effect
Equal parts free flowing melody, angular jagged heaviosity and layered soundscape beauty, they unleash a series of truly epic aural concoctions that show them to be something very special in a time of homogenized safety.
Formed in Portsmouth in 2000, the band quickly found their feet, undertaking early tours with Oceansize and Future Sound of The Left. They consolidated this hectic touring schedule with a true stroke of luck when they entered a Coke/Itunes competition judged by XFM’s Eddy Temple-Morris. They saw off 700 other bands to make it into the live performance final at London’s ULU.
And for those of you wondering – what sort of name is ‘Munroe Effect’, we’ll leave the last word to frontman Dan Sutton -
“The name ‘Munroe Effect’ was chosen because it wasn’t bad enough not to use, and we needed to get on with being a band. Plus, if you put it into Wikipedia, you get some cool shit about explosions.”
You’re Smiling Now But We’ll All Turn Into Demons
You’re Smiling Now But We’ll All Turn Into Demons, or let’s say “Demons” for short, are and alt-rock, psyche-drone four-piece from Portsmouth. The Demons are hard working boys indeed, constantly playing shows up and down the country, bringing their psyche noise to the masses and converting all who bare witness to their impressive live performances.
With three albums already under their belts (one of which was produced by Blood Red Shoes’ Steve Ansell), the boys release their next offering, Contact High Wit Da Demons on Function Records this September. Be prepared to fall in love with your new favourite band – You’re Smiling Now But We’ll All Turn Into Demons.
Sly And The Family Drone

Take a cassette. On it's own it's just a flimsy piece of poorly produced plastic containing a recording you made of the Radio 1 Top 40 in 1992. Mark Goodyear wowing and fluttering over the top of an Urban Cookie Collective single.
The cassette wants to be more. It wants to be used in greater sonic experiments. It wants to have it's tape reeled backwards, casing stripped back and handed around audiences baying sweaty excited fingers. Sly & The Family Drone give the cassette the life it's always wanted. This cassette is in a bloody good band!
Sly & The Family Drone are 3 core members utilising drums and electronics only. Tribal noise workouts in the vein of Crash Worship, Shit & Shine and Black Dice. There is no place for guitars within this band.
"Sly & the family drone next exploded from the reverie into some kind of tribal noise whirligig, handing out instruments of percussive torture to the enthralled crowd."
