good stuff
More crossover between 10th anniversary and MBV please, in terms of bands from 10th added to MBV. Esp battles and Stephen Malkmus...
-
ahahaha
amazing the ten year one is going to be the funnest weekend ever
-
Dirty Three
One of the best live acts I've witnessed.Brilliant bit of business.
-
Amen to that!
Was only talking to someone yesterday how it seems like ages since I last saw Battles...
-
yep
can you wait a few weeks for me to get the money though? thanks.
-
that 10 year one is really starting to look incredible
I wish I had money at the moment, plus more friends willing to go.
Do you know what flavour of Sunn O))) performance will be playing? I think I recall that they're touring Monoliths and Dimensions in the winter, so is there a chance this will be one of the rumoured ensemble lime-up gigs? I really will have to get a ticket if it is.
-
Can I swap my MBC ticket for a 10 year anniversay one?
Pleeeeeeeease?!
-
DIrty Three
Get in!
-
charming.
i can't wait to hear more moans... still feel second best...
who wants a 6 berth at MBV then?
-
Agreed ^^
Very nice additions. Now not to sound greedy or nowt but can we have some beats type business at the 10 Year one. I know it's coming but I'm impatient...
-
how glad am i
that i got on the installment scheme for this!!! all we need now is some Sonic Youth action and Pavement to reform....its possible.. Stephen Malkmus...Mark Ibold's playing bass for the yoof these days.
-
i know for supersonic they're still doing the GrimmRobe setup...
will try to find out what we're gonna have though, i'd love it to be the new setup
-
Yeah I need a while too.
Cool.
-
wooo
dirty fudging three! never know the mbv one could well be just as good as the 10 year one at this rate.. omg more techno and noise and stuff plz k thx bai
(uhm..) -
i just choked on my sandwich
both these line ups are ace. i wish i had some money.
-
Another cracking addition
for the MBV weekend. Dirty Three were immense at the ATP they curated two years ago.
-
yeah, I'm going to supersonic
and I saw the corsica studios gig, so it would be nice to see one of the other set ups, though I'll be trying to get a ticket for this anyway.
-
Please please please
will my friends see this and decide they're up for going!
-
malkmus/battles/sunn o))))
i literally just squeeled and jumped out of my seat.
i fucking love you.
x
-
Can we have Malkmus at MBV?
I think there's going to be a lot of these lame feeble begging letters for cross lineup pollination. But stick two awesome lineups one weekend after another and that's what'll happen.
-
Thanks!
oh.... ;)
-
I've noticed
That the Dirty Three announcement has disappeared from the ATP site. Or am I being dense?
-
your right
its def gone from the website, even on the NBC speciific page. The page is still there as I can still get to it from using my history but all links to it have dissapered on the site... Maybe a fuller announcment coming soon, or just a technical mistake?
-
in fact
they aren't even on the main NBC line up page, new announcments ussually appear straight away. The six new 10th Ani acts are all on thier line up page. Slightly odd i must say.
-
dear jamie
...can you 'ave a word in Shields' shell-like and get him to book Sunn O))) for the MBV one too! If not I am going to have to break the piggy bank and risk divorce by going to both. Cheers :-)
-
though
it is on the mail out
they better not withdraw it or im going to go beat someone with a large stick of doom*shakes fist*
-
this has officially appeased me
unless dirty three not being on the website means theyve fallen through in which case im angrier than ever
-
The only way...
...That you can make the shoddy post-NBC, 10 Year announcement right, is if you get us Battles for MBV NBC. Only then would I be truly satiated and forgive you all your sins.
(and Tortoise would be nice too)
-
I remain confident that the MBV is the better one
but yes, adding Battles to that one as well as the 9.5 year anniversary wold be great news.
-
9.5 year anniversary?
not meaning to be a pedant but, it states on the initial announcement for 10 years of ATP that..'We will be celebrating 10 years of ATP from December 2009 to December 2010' so its a whole god damn year of celebrating ATP. i dont get all this 'it's not ten years' blahblahblah.
-
yeah fair enough
am just being difficult.
-
dont worry
they're definitely playing, just some temporary site problems
-
Ned's Atomic Dustbin are one of the worst bands I've ever seen live.
Although I do still have one of their t-shirts somewhere.
-
I've got a question
I really want to go to the 10 year one. Thing is none of my irl friends are into this kind of music. I usually end up going to gigs/fests on my own, which is fine.
If I bought a single ticket for this would I be chaleted up with three strangers? If some DiSers I know had a spare bunk would I be able to chose to stay there? How does it work?
(I meant to ask Jamie Summers on Sat but got too drunk and forgot) -
you can't buy individual tickets, only chalets
so either you need to buy a chalet and find others to fill it, or find someone else with a spare place in their chalet
-
ah, squalid.
This might prove tricky.
-
All evidence of Dirty Three
playing at MBV weekend has been removed from ATP site.
-
if you read up the thread a bit
you'd see it's just a site error; they're def. playing.
-
There's
always loads of people selling single chalet spaces nearer the time (usually less than face value) as people drop out, keep an eye out on here and on last.fm.
-
hm
we have 2 spares if needed...
-
Early Bird for Ten Years have all sold out now.
Next ones to go will probably be the 2 berths.
-
sadface
we were gonna book tonight
-
okay
dirty three back on the lineup/website!
we sold out of 4 berth self catering for MBV over the weekend, so there are only two self catered left for that fest (on wegottickets) and other than thats its some 4 berth room onlys left.
-
i'd like to see more...
..shoegaze, with the addition of Swervedriver can we expect God Machine and Catherine Wheel too?
-
So annoying, I am completely sold on the Ten Years weekend.
Malkmus, Deerhoof, Battles - I'm in heaven.
However, the most likely suspects among my friends are already going to several festivals this summer and hesitant about committing more money.
A couple more ace acts might do the trick though. When are the next announcements likely? Or will it have sold out by then?
-
more additions coming very soon
and good ones too.
-
for
both ones? ATP MBV in particular would be good...
-
if it wasnt because ive never seen sonic youth live
MBV ATP lineup would totally SUCK. its very offencive to curate such an amazing one only days after
-
well, it's all subjective isn't it..
I have a friend who's coming with us to the MBV one on the fact that SY and De La Soul were on the original announcement, but now he really wants to go to the ten year one instead.. me? well, the addtion of buzzcocks/holy fuck/le volume courbe THEN J Mascic/Witch/The Pastels THEN Swervedriver and Bob pretty much makes it one of the best line ups i've ever seen. Ten year one can suck my balls, you lot always moan about ATP having the same line ups, and no you all got in a flap 'cos you've already bought tickets for one with a different line up (alright.. SY is the exception here - Thurston must just love Minehead in December) and you all want to trade that in/have a go at Jamie because you can't now go to the one with the bands that always play..
-
might not be until next week for mbv ones
we're negotiating for some great stuff but it's taking a big longer to confirm (and it is 5 months away ;-) )
-
Yea
I think I prefer the MBV one atm. I'm quite looking forward to it. There is some great stuff on both the lineups I think and I can understand the annoyance of people whom would like to go to both. But at the end of the day both weekends are looking like they're gonna be great and I'm really looking forward to it.
-
I honestly don't see how this line-up could get much better...
its near damn perfect as it is!
-
Totally sorted now
I convinced a friend to come along
CAN'TFUCKINWAITCAPSLOCKETC!!11!! -
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
are playing the 10 years of ATP fyi
-
oh man, Dirty Three
i am officially STOKED for the MBV weekend now. If only i could afford a 10 years ticket too :(
-
are SFA playing ATP NY
that is what I've been told.
-
You what?
That would be amazing.
-
they announced it on their mailout this morning
I really want to go now.
-
yep it's all over the SFA forums they are playing 3 dates in NY
one of them is on the sunday of ATP
-
grr
*wants more mbv additions*
thankyouverymush -
grrrr......
now the breeders added too, but nothing for MBV (again). Here's why I'm pissed off, ATP actually said the reason the 10 years could go ahead is that MBV sold so quickly. Maybe I'm wrong but that seems to indicate that the money generated form MBV has been used to book bands for 10 years, so the big names get stuck onto 10 years to sell tickets for that, and MBV get J Mascis and Dirty three who just happen to be playing at 10 years as well.
ATP clearly new they were going to do both events in the summer but not giving people the choice, until after they bought tickets for MBV smacks of greed and opportunism. Quite frankly the 10 years bill shits all over the MBV lineup, and this largely seems to be down to the people who bought tickets for MBV. I'm fast losing respect for ATP, only getting autechre, Pavement, Liars and Yo La Tengo stuck on the MBV lineup is going to offer you redemption!
-
You're being a bit over the top there
Opportunistic? Not really, both ATP's were probably being planned for a while. ATP isnt really something you can lose respect for...its not a person, it's a company, and all companies have the goal of making a profit and ATP is in the position to do so.
-
ok
I might well be very wrong, (feel free to disprove me with some decent additions to the MBV lineup.)
If MBV hadn't have sold so fast, and 10 years wasn't going ahead, would some of the bands from 10yrs likey to have featured on the MBV weekend?
-
Who are you 'not_happy_'??
You must be a regular DiSer with a new alias.
-
opportunistic?
well, yes clearly you can have respect for a company and their goals. I've got no problem with them making money at all, but a lot of people who bought tickets for MBV feel a little short changed by the difference in the quality of the lineups and the timing of the 10yrs announcement when ATP clearly new they were planning to do 2 events.
And yes, 'quality' of the bands is subjective, but this is my personal opinion and I'm probably not alone in thinking it.
-
well i'm going to both now
so nerr.
-
MBV didn't book all the bands for NY though...
ATP booked at least half, and I presume it will be the same for xmas? so it may not just be about 'if MBV want them' also about 'if ATP want them'....?
-
The NY one was titled curated by MBV and ATP
the NBC one is titled curated by MBV.
-
identity?
I'm actually Bob Mould, angry that I can't get to see Battles, Deerhoof and my old pals Kim and Kelly
-
ATP NY 2008
first night: Don't Look Back shows
second night: curated by ATP
third night: curated by MBVand it was advertised as such, unlike NBC, which is 100% curated by MBV.
-
all i will say is
MBV and Sonic Youth are the best bands playign either weekend. So if the 10 year anniversary show was on sale at the smae time as MBV, i woudl still do MBV.
-
well...
well to a point, you're not gonna stick 10 of the bands from 10yrs on at MBV just because they want them...
angry ranting aside, full lineups yet to be dislosed etc... can you understand from a punters perspective why people aren't too pleased?
-
let me qualify that
some people aren't too pleased...
-
Whoop whoop
Where'd you hear that?
-
When I say Husker Du
I really mean Bob Mould with a large side order of wishful thinking.
-
Right
Firstly, for the record I am not that hot_happy_ person but looking at the recent additions for the 10 years fest I'm not happy either. Don't get me wrong the MBV isn't a bad lineup but every announcement so far makes me less convinced that we are going to end up with 2 events of similar quality. And why would we? If I was in ATP's position I would be putting all my effort into attracting people to the second weekend as it makes perfect business sense.
Yeah I know, it's what the curators want etc... but let's not kid ourselves here. Sure 'quality' is subjective but ATP know perfectly well which bands are 'major' announcements for an ATP and so far, apart from the usual ATP recordings suspects, every announcement for weekend 2 has been a solid-gold DiS favourite. They know it. We know it. Whether or not it is fair to put that down to cold-hard business sense is neither here nor there and really I'm not interested what anyone from ATP has to say about it. It's like MPs expenses - it's how it looks that matters. I am desperate to be proven wrong here and will hold my hands up if this is the case but if not then I am done with ATP.
-
End of the road my friend
It is the new ATP.
-
:(
Don't think I've ever made an internet sad face before.
-
"If I was in ATP's position I would be putting all my effort into attracting people to the second weekend as it makes perfect business sense."
Maybe so, but ATP aren't picking the bands for the first weekend. My Bloody Valentine are.
-
Actually my sentance means two things
I meant En of the Road Festival is the new ATP. But the meaning you took could be true too.
-
I'm more of a Green Man man myself.
TBH both of those festivals have a great identity and know their markets while managing to vary the lineup year on year and you know there will only be 1 Green Man every year. For summer festivals the venues are amazing.
I know ATP is different because it's not camping and stuff but the fact that there is now 4 a year in the UK really cheapens the brand IMO. It's just like those 80s soul weekenders or something. I know there's nowhere else for them to go from here (except Center Parcs) but maybe they should diversify the events a bit more. The Nightmare Before Christmas idea has worked really well in previous years, with a darker, more varied and noisy lineup but this year they've not bothered.
-
I don't believe that's the only factor at play for a second.
You have one festival to fill and one sold out. Where would you put your resources? Like I say, I'm not interested in the inner machinations of the ATP Corporation, I just want to be proved wrong.
-
End of the Road?
Wait, isn't that being headlined by Ash and Supergrass?
Intense.
-
I believe
you are thinking of the Truck festival.
Supersonic is clearly the new ATP anyway.
-
I'm gonna reiterate what someone else said up there earlier
but haven't people been complaining about ATP having the same bands playing and not enough variety or new/different acts? I know that was an opinion and yes I was one of those.
For the record I'm going to both events in December and wanna celebrate the anniversary but I know its going to be full of bands I've seen before, some on several occasions. After the initial bombshell I'm coming round to the fact that the MBV line up is going to be a damn sight more interesting musically than 10 years, holding more surprises and adventurousness and, hopefully, some noise representation which I would prefer.
I say this as a long time ATP punter but I already have a feeling which line up I'm going to prefer come December, if anything the MBV one holds the edge already.
-
Haven't looked at this years TBH
Last couple have been good though.
-
I think if you can afford to go to both
Then you aren't in a position to criticise those of us that are a tad miffed at the way this event has come together. I don't really have a problem with bands playing lots at ATP. I'm a long standing ATP punter who is cheesed off that ATP are getting together a 'greatest hits' of ATP bands to celebrate 10 years. I had assumed something like this would happen in May but commercial opportunity + too late to get a curator lined up means that Barry got out his address book early.
I think you might be right about the MBV one. On reflection there is only one more band on the 10 years one that I am interested in seeing and it's good to have some hip-hop. I've mixed feelings about Swervedriver. Amazing band but I've seen too many mediocre reformed classic bands at ATP to hold my hopes up. It probably will be more interesting but there are so many GREAT bands on the other lineup. Personal pissers for me are Melvins and Sunn O))). If they go and book more oddball stuff like the Arkestra I will change my tune. The Melvins/Patton one was my favourite ATP lineup.
-
Also
the second weekend would have been much more convenient for me (I will have to miss a large chunk of Sunday) so there is some personal bias there too.
-
One thing worth noting
is that they are celebrating the 10 year anniversary from "Dec 09 to Dec 10". So this will be far from the only opportunity or special event over the next 12 months.
That might not sound great now but by not going you'll be in better postion next May probably to enable you to go to those.
But if you REALLY wanna go then can't you just find a way, any way of getting there? I've done some serious cutbacks personally: been budgeting, internet banking, setting up standing orders. In the last month I've spent exactly £0 on alcohol and that looks set to continue for a while, haven't been out socialising on weekends for 4 weeks and counting... just to afford to get there.
-
No, I'm not that bothered
There are plenty of other festivals for me to spend my money on so I'll be going to Green Man and Field Day. If I was going to do some cash scraping I'd do it to go to Supersonic.
I went to ATP 2 weekends in a row in 2004 and didn't really enjoy it that much, despite the great lineups. It's too much.
-
Forgot Bloc
Going to give that a go next year instead of ATP.
-
MBV ATP all the way!!
personally im all over the MBV weekend. But fair play 10 years look sweet too. they are crafty buggers the ATP mob arent they? But MBV, J Mascis, Sonic Youth and Swervedriver at one festival is my dream line up
-
add Electric Assembly to MBV weekend!
I'm completely biased here but they would fit the bill so well
-
I can afford to go to both
and want to go to both. Doesn't stop it being a rip off and annoying. Also, they have fed us a load of lies about how it came about which is a bit annoying.
Yep, I totally believe the MBV one was sellng out, then Butlins called and offered another weekend, then the guys thought "hey we could do that and it could be the ten year anniversary!" then they managed to put together a line up of a load of massive bands, all in the space of about three weeks. It simply isn't true.
They announced one, let it sell really well then announced the second one because they thought that would be the best way to get the same people to pay again.

Battles
Stephen Malkmus
Oh Jamie
if only you'd said there would be crossover from the start I think the angry mob would have been less so. I am so fucking excited for Dirty Three, a thousand thanks.
I was probably wrong about the angry mob thing, but in any case: DIRTY FUCKING THREE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
