Chad VanGaalen
Know there are quite a few fans here, so thought i'd paste in this press release...

Hey folks,
On behalf of our friends at Sub Pop, we're really excited to announce Chad VanGaalen will be playing a one-off UK date in London at the ICA, June 11th...
For those of you that haven't heard it yet, Chad's record 'Soft Airplane' is amazing, and typically modest, Sub Pop didn't make a big deal of it at the time so we're real pleased to have come across it. Some of you lucky few may have caught Chad supporting Secretly Canadian beaus Women earlier in the year, those who didn't be sure to clear a space in the diaries now!
Chad VanGaalen’s musical roots date back to the first part of the decade, when he made a living busking on the streets of Calgary. He's part of the great American indie tradition, guileless like Daniel Johnston, quietly angry, prickly and friendly like The Shins or The Postal Service. As well as the music he also draw beautiful pictures both of which he's produced at an alarming rate. And whatever his motivation for doing what he does, or creating what he creates, the result is always both genuine and good. The proof is in the songs. Recalling Neil Young at his most fragile and plaintive, and Thurston Moore at his most resolved and vital, Chad’s emotive vocals anchor these songs while tackling themes of death and dreams. Through a complex interplay of guitar, drum beats, loops, samples, found sounds, unorthodox percussion, xylophones, distortion, synthesizers, accordions and more all recorded primarily on an old tape machine and a JVC ghetto blaster in Chad’s basement, he somehow brilliantly blends handmade charm with layers of sophistication.
