The Black Keys
I fucking love this band.
Can anyone recommend anything that even remotely has the same level of delicious, warm, unpretentious vocals; and unpolished, grubby, raw geetars and drums?
-
eigning sound
try them
-
black keys...
...were absolutely amazing at Brixton in November.

Thanks for the recommendations mate. I will explore.
Any more recommendations from anyone??
-
awesome color
once played a gig in my house
-
I'll state the obvious
But BRMC, Archie Bronson Outfit, some Racounters stuff. And is it just me or do they sound a bit like INXS, but good?
-
i fucking love this band
i'm also about to say something controversial. I think Attack and Release is my fave album by them, its really grown on me and I need to listen to it at least once a day!

Best black keys album
JohnnyZaza I don't buy into all this guff about Attack & Release disappointingly moving away from the "realness" of their previous stuff.
I'm pleased they spread their wings a little and weren't afraid to add a little more.
Attack & Release is a magnificent album, and one that I keep going back to again and again and again.
Mind you, I go back to all their stuff again and again.
I reckon The Big Come Up is the one I would say I don't rate as highly as the others.CHEERS FOR EVERYONE'S RECOMENDATIONS.
Another mate said I should try Drive-By Truckers. For some reason the name makes me think they might be shit. Not that I am one to judge music by a band's name. Comments?
-
Drive-by Truckers are fucking awesome.
They're not particularly similar to the black keys though, as far as I'm concerned.
But if you want earthy, heartfelt lyrics about the fall of the southc, incest and trailer trash lives set to a rock solid, 3 guitar, country backing, then investigate straight away.
-
not sure but.
some two gallants tunes have that heavy blues feeling but its not exactly the same style."las cruces jail" or "nothing to you" would be good songs to get started on.listen to rory gallagher

sounds promising - cheers thewarn
Trying to think what it is I like about the black keys, as well as what I said at the top of this post. I like the bluesy sound I suppose (not that I've ever, consciously, been "into" blues). And the almost punky noise of a lot of their tracks - particularly married to Dan's amazing voice.
If DriveBy Truckers are a bit "country", I'm not sure if it will be ballsy enough for me. I like ballsy music.
-
amazing band!
I saw them at reading a good few years ago now, blew me away if I rememeber rightly ( I had been drunk for a few days ).
-
love them!
really would love to see them live. Hopefully they'll do the festival circuit this summer
-
I saw em at Leeds fest in 2003
Afterwards some random guy came and grabbed me shouting "Wasn't that the best FUCKING band you've ever seen!? YEAH!?!!"
Of course I said yes, as he wouldn't let go of me.
Had a fair point though they were amazing, Patrick Carney's Kit shifted about 5 foot across the stage!! -
really good band
the first three albums are my favourites but I can understand them wanting to move on from that and not become typecast. I think Dan has a solo album on the way
here's links to some photos I've taken of them some of the times I've seen them live

Archie Bronson Outfit
and for a friends band plug The Telegrams play stuff along those lines are are great.
-
Am I alone in thinking that...
.. Attack and Release just absolute filth? And I mean that in a very good way.
-
I just discovered them recently.
Rubber Factory is shockingly amazing.
-
they're amazing
love it all, saw them live in 2004 and life hasn't been the same since.
-
Maybe
Jonathan Fire*eater/Walkmen? Still haven't got Attack & Release (or maybe I do and haven't listened yet). Rubber Factory well cool.
-
Has anyone mentioned The Dirt Bombs?
I think you would like them if you like The Black Keys.
-
i was thinking them
also Jawbone maybe? Bit less slick i suppose.
-
Was a bit late getting into them but love 'em
They really remind me of Free, which is probably a deeply uncool thing to say.
There's also a pretty good Australian band called The Mess Hall - http://myspace.com/themesshall - who do the drums/guitar 2-piece really well.
