beirut - cheap magic inside (dvd)
the basic premise is that zach condon ambles around paris being enigmatic and wistful, bumps into his band ten or eleven times and, without words, plays the whole second album, each track being played in a different location.
this movie is the most pretentious pile of fucking toss that i have EVER seen.
if it wasn't bad enough that the whole thing starts with zach blowing a conch across paris as a call to arms for his band-mates, he then displays an acting style i can only describe as D-grade GCSE. that vincent moon's production style begins to grate by the end is probably only guilt by association.
the undoubted worst, most toe-curling moment of the video (and indeed, 2007) is when, after playing one of the later tracks of the album in a church, the backing singers file out, as do condon's band-mates, and he is left spouting basic french to God, before almost collapsing into a pew.
has anyone else seen this monstrosity?
