DiS: actually works
I guess about two years ago now, Los Campesinos! posted an innocent thread asking for people's opinions on their music.
From there, many DiSers fell in love with the band who went on to pick up a palpable buzz, that the band handled graciously.
LC! signed to Wichita (surely the most perfect home for a band of this ilk) and everyone else began to hear what so many here and close by were excited about.
Now, the album is done. I was scared, worried that being so close to the development of a band, watching them grow and hearing everything produced in the interim would mean I'd get disappointed by things not sounding like the 'demo' or anything like that.
But fuck it, 'Hold on Now, Youngster...' is absolutely, positively joyous. It goes in directions and to heights I didn't think the band could reach, instrumentally and melodically.
I'm relieved and happy, but more than anything it's proof that a band can take a buzz and capitalise on it, rather than falter at every step.
I just hope the rest of the world feels the same.
