Do you honestly reckon you could write a hit single?
I'm going on from Theo's thread here as it made me think of a question which'd quite interest me.
Lots of people dismiss 'populist' bands like Keane, Oasis etc. (most of whom aren't too my taste) as "shit" and "lowest common denominator" and doing stuff that "anyone could do". But do you honestly reckon you can?
Ignoring artistic principles for a moment, if you were given a major record label contract, a decent promotional budget and media exposure etc. do you think you could write a genuine massive crossover hit record (i.e. one that doesn't just chart well and disappears but one that genuinely connects with people and thus hangs around in the top 10 for ages, gets played on rotation on commercial radio channels and seeps itself into the 'national consciousness' as a 'classic' of its time)?
