Roskilde...
Sorry if someone's already chatted about it...
Who went? Did you? I did? It was the best festival i've ever been to, mainly because of the amazing atmosphere, although some cracking music helped. I can imagine that if you were one of the unlucky few to have their tents washed away then it was perhaps a little less fun...
Anyways, for your delectation, my fest review goes a little something like this:
Thursday (rain)
Arcade Fire - Very good
Killers - A bit underwhelming
Friday (no rain)
Sounds - nice enough electro-rock
My Chemical Romance - Surprisingly entertaining
Klaxons - Fucking amazing
QOTSA - OK, although the bass was painfully high in the mix (at least from where i was standing) and made my ears hurt
Saturday (no rain)
The National - Good shit
Hayseed Dixie - muchos fun
Flaming Lips - OK, a bit kinda gimmicky though
The Who - Surely they should just stop now *should've stopped a long while back*. Daltrey is a shadow of his former self; he seems to think that swinging his mic around will convince us he's still at his peak. It didn't. He dropped it. Townshend was ok and they played all the hits, however it was just like going to an old people's home and watching your grandad wee himslef, which isn't nice.
RHCP - fuck off you arrogant fuckwits. The crowd for the chillis was immense - there must have been like a billion people there but you'd have thought the chillis thought they were in rehearsals or something - every song was followed by a 5 minute jam/wank-off which became boring after about 2 seconds. Kiedis was clearly off it and not at all interested. Frusciante's little solo bit was cool.
Sunday (no rain)
Beirut - Quite beautiful
Electralane - quite boring
Arctic Monkeys - really good, not at all 'dangerous'/*insert pretentious muso adjective here*. First time i've seen them since favourite worst nightmare and admittedly a few songs sound, or at least start, quite similar but they got the crowd going and had the biggest singalongs. They're much better musicians that folk give them credit for as well.
Spritualized - Didn't see much of this although what i did sounded pretty cool. There were hardly any folk watching them, which was a bit odd...
Muse - A typical muse show which, helped by an improvement in the sound, destroyed everyone else's set before and after. The encore of Unintended, Plug in baby, Stockholm Syndrome and Take a bow is surely peerless. Amazing.
So there you go, there were some nice fireworks as well.
