David Hasselhoff #1 in the singles charts next week?
A few months ago I signed up to a novelty site (potential viral marketing, or maybe someone just wanting to make money off the affiliate commission) with the following concept:
"Get The Hoff to Number 1
Think what he's given to the world. Knight Rider. Baywatch. The reunification of East and West Germany. Untold laughter from forwarded e-mails of him in hotpants.
He's given a lot. It's time we gave something back.
The Hoff's having a hard time. He's split from his wife. He needs a lift.
Let's help him out with something that would mean the world to him. Something that would repay all the goodness he's given us over the years. A glittering prize that thus far eludes him.
A top spot in the UK music charts.
Let's get Hoff to Number One.
How it works...
It's very simple.
1) The Hoff has released the single Jump In My Car
2) You buy it and watch him fly high to number 1"

They were waiting until they had 35,000 signed up to the site before sending the message to everyone.
I don't know if it'll work, but it'll be interesting to see if his single charts next week, and how well it does...
The FAQ on the site addresses suspicions:
"Why are you doing this? Is this a marketing campaign by Hasselhoff or something?
No, and nor are we making any money from this. We are doing this purely from the good of our hearts to give the legend the respect he rightfully deserves."
but if you look at the source code:
"<table align="center" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0">
<tr><td align="center">
<input style='width:250px' type='button' value='Buy Jump In My Car From 7 Digital' onclick='window.location = "http://www.gethasselhofftonumber1.com/buy.php?store=7Digital"' />
</td></tr>
<tr><td align="center" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px; color: #333333; text-decoration: none">
or
</td></tr>
<tr>
<td align="center" >
<input style='width:250px' type='button' value='Buy Jump In My Car From iTunes' onclick='window.location = "http://www.gethasselhofftonumber1.com/buy.php?store=iTunes"' />
</td></tr>
</table>"
buy.php could be doing anything and it wouldn't surprise me if that anything was to slot in an affiliate ID for the US/UK/international stores.
Sorry to ramble on, just thought that it was interesting and related to music so worth noting :)
