He is another Tim Henman. Yet another brilliant and consistent tennis player, that happens to be one of the best in the world, who doesn't regularly win tournaments because there are, like, two or three people who are a level above everyone else. Automatically meaning that EVERY OTHER TENNIS PLAYER IN THE WORLD MUST BE SHIT.
12th isnt he in the world? thats about right. hes good, but theres always gonna be enough players better than him that means he wont win. henman had one chance when a lot of the favourites went out but goran won that one. murray might get a similar chance but who knows?
its the same with england football. the reason we go out in the quarters (if that) all the time is because we are at best the 6-10th best team in the world most of the time.
after Federer, Nadal & Djokovic him and Gasquet are the next in line to make up the top 5, he more talented than many of the players above him in the rankings.
but he does that fist thing like henman did.not actually going mental with his fist just sort of clenching it and moving it a bit.i hate that.other than that i think hes a great tennis player.its just federer and nadal are quite clearly leagues above everyone else
1. Henman was 5th in the world and won a number of tournaments and beat the best players in the world. The British idiots obsession that him winning Wimbledon, or rather failing to do so, makes him a 'shit player' really, really fucks me off.
2. This is first quarter-final of Andy Murray's very short career. Yes, he got pulverised, but Nadal was fucking incredible. In Nadal's own words 'that's the best game I've ever played on grass'.
Nadal made Murray look stupid at points. Made the 12th best player at Wimbledon look stupid. I reckon the only way I'd win a point would be by some flukey mis-hit return that just plonked over the net and didn't bounce.
Guy in first quarter final loses to one of the world's best players in phenomenal form. Must be dog shit, why don't you just kill yourself Andy eh? You'll never live the weight of our unrealistic expectations because we only watch tennis 2 weeks a year
But I get nervous walking too close to the edge of the pavement, so god knows how he must have been feeling with the 'HOPES OF A NATION' on his shoulders.
I do get irked by people talking about the british accepting failure by talking up henman - he got to a lot of semis at wimbledon, that's top 4, not bad at all, especially consistently. He came up against the Sampras and federer eras, with only 2-3 years in between. Most importantly for me though, he played the kind of tennis i enjoy watching - i find clay court style quite dull.
I suppose i have two points:
Why doesn't the PTA push more grass court tennis? Can't they say each surface has to represented by a minimum 25% of the tournaments? (ie grass, clay and hard court). It's almost impossible for a grass court style player to succeed in the professional game now, leading to more and more one dimensional styles. In a few years all players will basically play a very similar game imho.
British press - henman had no character/bottle/was too timid etc. murray is now deamed to be brattish and too aggressive. JUST FUCK OFF and accept the style of each player yeah?
i'd argue that the difference between Henman and Murray is that I love one and the other is a curly haired prick. But I softened a little during the Gasquet game. And I love Richard.
Does every country absolutely tear into their own sportmen/women at every given opportunity, or are we a special case?
Or...
Nadal is just miles better?
What's the score?
nadak up by one set
and winning second 5-2, hang on 3 set pints!
3 set pints?
now that might be interesting.
this Nadak is quite a drinker!
isn't it jiust cos they are/were shit?
balls has nothing to do with it, nadal is world class and would easily be number one without smug fuck.
This is true
Nadal is absolute class.
But the reason for this class must be becasue he has giant testicles.
I mean, look at his angry man concentratey face. Only a man with giant testicles could make a face like that.
Murray is a good player, and I know he's still quite young, but he just looks like he needs a poo and is afraid to ask the teacher.
he's 21, nadak is 22
shit sport, sorry game, anyway. I couldn't care less about tennis or murray.
also
Nadak has that one crazy huge arm. like that dude in that film i saw once off that guy who did the sixth sense.
hehehe

Yep, he is.
Ugly face, annoying jaw, annoying teeth. Fucking go away.
tennis is annoying.
It don't help
that Murray keeps hitting it to Nadal.
Try and hit it somewhere he's not standing- lesson 1, page 1 of the hit a ball with a stringy bat handbook.
:DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
you win
Don't worry he'll do it next year.
And if not, the year after.
And if not, the year after.
And if not, the year after.
And if not, the year after.......
Ya get my point.
honestly, i don't think a britishman
will ever win wimblodeon. which shouldn't be a shock to anyone.
he;s only british when he wins
he's an oat quaffing haggis botherer when he loses.
* scotch
:'(
dont care anyway
1- tennis is boring
2- hes not english
3 hes a prick
those three together pretty much damn him for me.
henman
1 applies
2 doesnt
3 hes a boring pillock
so he loses too
I quite like henman nowadays
now that he's doing the commentary / punditry. He always seems to be a little bit sozzled whenever i seem, which i find endearing.
murray
is probably the only half good sporting person scotland has ever produced though
Kenny Daglish?
Graeme Souness?
Denis Law?
i'm not scottish
but that is just plain wrong
Kenny Dalglish
Colin Montgomerie
David Coulthard
Gordon Strachen
to name but 4 and i'm sure there is plenty more
Graeme O'Bree
Robert Millar
graeme souness
kenny miller
duncan ferguson
archie gemmill
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Fucking hell.
HAHA!
straight sets, easy.
lol!
you win!
Rab C Nesbitt
Sean Connery, Alexander Graham Bell, Ben Nevis, your boy took one hell of a beating.
^ bwhahahahah
true that.
It is great to notice that he was Britain's Andy Murray on Monday
and Scotland's Andy Murray tonight.
I think he is good, but not Nadal good. Will he ever be? Maybe. Myabe not. So?
^i agree
^5
I agree
He is another Tim Henman. Yet another brilliant and consistent tennis player, that happens to be one of the best in the world, who doesn't regularly win tournaments because there are, like, two or three people who are a level above everyone else. hes not even that good

its the same with england football. the reason we go out in the quarters (if that) all the time is because we are at best the 6-10th best team in the world most of the time.
12th in the world at 21 is pretty darn good
Where are you in the world? Yeah, so shut up.
I agree with Damian on this one.
It's always been a particularly stupid argument
and Henman got the same, that they were always criticised for not being among the very best players in the world. What do you want him to do, retire?
"hes not even that good"
Okaaaaaaaaaaay!
he's 12th and would be higher if it wasn't for injuries.
after Federer, Nadal & Djokovic him and Gasquet are the next in line to make up the top 5, he more talented than many of the players above him in the rankings.
i dont mind him
but he does that fist thing like henman did.not actually going mental with his fist just sort of clenching it and moving it a bit.i hate that.other than that i think hes a great tennis player.its just federer and nadal are quite clearly leagues above everyone else
Just to back up a few things that have already probably been said:
So, in short, fuck off.
I would've beaten him.
I wonder if I played Nadal or Federer if I would win a point? I don't reckon I would.
I was thinking this last night.
Nadal made Murray look stupid at points. Made the 12th best player at Wimbledon look stupid. I reckon the only way I'd win a point would be by some flukey mis-hit return that just plonked over the net and didn't bounce.
If I played Nadal the only time the ball would touch my raquet
would be when I served.
And even then, that would be under arm
I'd be standing so far back I'd be in the Royal Box
on Bruce Forsyth's lap.
^ this
Guy in first quarter final loses to one of the world's best players in phenomenal form. Must be dog shit, why don't you just kill yourself Andy eh? You'll never live the weight of our unrealistic expectations because we only watch tennis 2 weeks a year
That said, as much as I agree with you on Henman
He did have a massive chance to win Wimbledon and he monumentally bottled it
Course he did.
But I get nervous walking too close to the edge of the pavement, so god knows how he must have been feeling with the 'HOPES OF A NATION' on his shoulders.
sort of
he was playing another very good player.
I do get irked by people talking about the british accepting failure by talking up henman - he got to a lot of semis at wimbledon, that's top 4, not bad at all, especially consistently. ^here here.
i'd argue that the difference between Henman and Murray is that I love one and the other is a curly haired prick. But I softened a little during the Gasquet game. And I love Richard.
Does every country absolutely tear into their own sportmen/women at every given opportunity, or are we a special case?
I like Andy Murray BECAUSE he is a prick
Being a prick is what spurs you on at the top levels of sport
I tend to lean towards the shite and lovable
but I'm warming to Murray's arseholeness.
Italy's quite bad for it
i think a lot of countries do, but it is a british thing to love and underdog until they succeed 'too much'
*an underdog
has Murray not earned
£2.5 million from playing "not even that good" tennis? Whoz laughing now?
nah
he's ranked 12th, nadal is ranked, what, 1st or 2nd?
Getting to the quarter-finals = top 8 = about what you'd expect from him at this stage. a good player, not great yet.
