Bio
She Said! is the name of the vehicle for The Voice. Three dark, mysterious Brighton men playing a stylised country music that veers from mariachi to rockabilly and back again, drawing upon a sparse Hammond organ and fluent double-bass to back up The Voice. The Voice is songwriter Dominique Noiret. She’s lived all over: Warwickshire, the state of New York, the French countryside: before moving to Brighton eight years ago to study photography.
“I always wanted to sing but it never occurred to me you could make a living out of it,” Dominique explains. “That’s why I studied photography. My photos started off harsh, black and white, German style. Bleak, stark.”
There’s a lot of stark beauty at the heart of She Said! It mostly emanates from Noiret: you won’t have heard an equal to her voice since the days of Jefferson Airplane. It’s chilling in its intensity. It has its own aura. On stage, Dominique likes to dress all in black - black skirts, black tops, black Cuban heels, black eye make-up - sporting an acoustic Martin guitar with her name painted down the side: Fifties-esque without being obviously Fifties. You couldn’t imagine her any other way.
